Houston fans react to Roy's shot
There's some language in this game thread at clutchfans.net. Can you blame them?

No, but maybe Duckworth was watching over the shot and did not want to lose his tribute game :)
Rest in peace, Duck.

wow
so much whining about Roy not getting it off in time. they must be new to the NBA, if they think you can’t get a shot off in 0.8. Obviously it can be done. it has been done in less time in fact. Fisher’s 0.4 shot.

I saw a video
of Korver I think getting a pure Catch and shoot off in under.3 which is what the NBA says is the standard for the catch and shoot. Roy had .8 which the NBA says is enough time to catch, gather, and shoot I believe.
One thing i will bring up is, late in the 4th qtr, I can’t remember when but the TNT announcers said the clock didn’t start when Roy was bring the ball up court. It had to of cost about 2 seconds or so. If that was the case and they fixed that, then ROY’s first shot would have been the game winner as it went in with 1.9 left.

Jason Kopono
Link to the video
The clock is started manually so had nothing to do with his previous shot. Quote from a comment on the Kapono video :“There’s still an official scorekeeper who has to start the clock. Human visual reaction time varies between .25 and .4 seconds (that’s including the time it takes to move your finger and press whatever button).”

the League review said he got it off in time
not just the refs at the game and everyone at the Rose Garden.

I think the complaint it not that he didn't get it off in time
(which he very obviously did), but that the clock didn’t start when it should have. That is my understanding why it took so many replays for the score to be official. The refs were trying to see when the clock started in relation to the ball being inbounded.
I was there last night with my binoculars trained on the refs & the replays – with my heart in my mouth. I just couldn’t join in the screaming and dancing until I knew for sure. Joel tried to sneak in and watch but someone backed him out , but Monty Williams watched and gave a fist pump and I knew the timing was OK then, but still the refs watched and watched. Martell was there looking over their shoulders too. The Rockets had already left the court.

Magnum was close
The league review actually said Roy got it off within .8 seconds of touching it. If that’s the case, it doesn’t really matter that they started the clock late, although I doubt they’d overturn the outcome today even if he held it longer and a late clock start let him get away with it yesterday.

Bunch of Haters
Sure when Kobie does it to us its a “Miracle shot” “Amazing” yet when we get someone that can do that its sour grapes. I am soooooo tired of the Haters in this league.
We are moving on up, and a few teams are going to be on the bottom of our shoes on the way up, it started with San Antonio and next step was Houston.

I doubt that Roy got that shot off in .8 seconds...
although I don’t think Houston fans have much right to complain. If it wasn’t .8, then it was darn close, regardless of the 1.6 second claim made by Hollinger. No way that shot took 1.6 seconds… he must have a room full of monkeys doing his video analysis when they aren’t cooking up his statistical formulas.
If some of those Rocket fans are going to whine about a miracle shot that took about 1.0 seconds when we only had .8 on the clock, maybe they should pause to reflect that the real problem was Houston letting Roy get a good look at a 30 foot jumper. I’d guess that 9 times out of 10 the refs would let that shot stand even if it technically took a little too long.
And the clock management problem with 30 seconds to go is totally irrelevant. If they paused and fixed the clock, the strategies and execution of both teams would have been different for the end of the game.

According to John Hollinger
the league office says Roy got the shot off in time.
However, on Friday the league office — with sophisticated tools at its disposal — said its review concluded the shot took just under 0.8 seconds. To be exact, it took 23 frames, each of which takes a third of a second.

Well there you go
Thanks for linking that. A bunch of Houston fans are rabid at the thought that it took 1.6 seconds.
The Dime must have updated that page? I could have sworn that earlier this morning that exact paragraph had a comment in which Hollinger’s analysis showed 1.6 seconds elapsed. If that’s the case, and if the actual time was less than .8 seconds, then what the hell is Hollinger doing? What kind of analysis is that? Any buffoon could see it didn’t take 1.6 seconds.

they said it took 23 frames
My son does video for a living and says 23 frames is about .8 seconds or less. I’m clueless about that, but he says “23 frames proves it”.

This game cannot be more rigged. Refs give them a few seconds to win with the ridiculous shot.
