Is your election over yet?
Oh, good. Perhaps the silly political slams will stop now.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.

SHUT YUR FACE, COMMIEZOID
THE ONLY THING “SILLY” IS YOUR FACE.
Thank goodness this isn’t another election that lasts days and weeks. After the Oden sprain, I got no more energy to care about stuff.

Not trying to stir anything up
I posted this because it just seemed odd to me that no overt acknowledgment of yesterday’s momentous events was visible on BE. Yes, this site is about the Trail Blazers, but please forgive me for noting that on November 4, 2008, an African-American man was elected to govern a nation born in slavery.
For those of us who are US citizens or live in the US, and for many others around the world, this national election was a watershed event whose importance is just beginning to be realized. John McCain was gracious in defeat, recognizing the historic importance of Obama’s election and vowing to work with the new president to help deal with the formidable problems looming ahead. For his part, Barack Obama was equally gracious in victory, reaching out to all of us for our support in the coming years.
I hope that all of us can similarly adopt an attitude of tolerance and trust, and that we can realize that we have a great deal in common. On a personal note, I realize that I have at times engaged in political (with a small "p") discussions on this site that have not led to mutual understanding so much as pushing us all into reflexive, defensive postures where we don’t really hear one another. I promise to try to do better in the future.

I use the term "Live in the US" loosely... But just for fun.
Sometimes I just don’t know where I am.
This thread is well placed, humorous, and no flack shall be passed, unless upon me. C’mon FLACK!

Good stuff
As someone who doesn’t live in the U.S., I’m glad to see racism over there dying. Both parties have advanced blacks to high position, but this one has been endorsed by the electorate at large. It would be nice to see skin color not even be mentioned any more, but I suppose that may never come. Nevertheless, this is a huge step forward.
I hope even conservatives who opposed Obama on philosophical grounds can see a good side in this.
I hope that now the election is over, people will realize that just about everybody really wants the same things, and that just because someone has a different idea from yours about how to accomplish it doesn’t mean they are evil or stupid. Political differences should be treated with respect. There is a reason the other guy thinks the way he does, and it might be a good idea to try to find out what it is.
I didn’t think you were stirring things up. I thought it was a clever fanpost.

Worded well
I am one of the few people on here that was extremely irritated about the political discussion on this site. There was a lot of mean things said, and I hope now it will cease and we can go back to talkin’ basketball!
When asked about his thoughts during the Olympic games about playing against Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard, Rudy responded "My first thought was respect. My second thought was to kick their ass".
Man I love him.

Hi Ann
Glad to see you’re still around! Myself, I’m gonna try to lurk and listen a bit more and stay away from the fray. If I can pull it off, I might try to imitate your bon mot style but with a bit of blather. Can’t seem to help myself!

Which other African American was on the ballot? Did Jesse Jackson run again?

huh?
do you not get my point? I"m happy we’ve finally accomplished electing an African American. I’m bummed Obama had to be the one. I’m not saying there was one running that I preferred, just not an Obama follower.

Speaking of Jesse Jackson
I got pretty emotional seeing him there in the crowd, tears running down his cheeks. That image will stay with me forever.

He was just sad because he never got the chance to rip Obama’s nuts off.

GO BEAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It kills me that OSU sucks at basketball, being that it’s by far, my favorite sport. I think the Craig Robinson hire was a huge positive……….and the fact that his BIL is now the President Elect? Crazy…….

the UNITED states of america...
I hope that all of us can similarly adopt an attitude of tolerance and trust, and that we can realize that we have a great deal in common.
… just because someone has a different idea from yours about how to accomplish it doesn’t mean they are evil or stupid. Political differences should be treated with respect.
I think the nation is in for a pleasant surprise with Obama. Though he may be liberal… he sincerely respects conservatives, and that will make a huge difference in how he governs this country.
Last night as I was watching the states one by one colored red or blue, I was hoping that after Obama’s speech… they’d all be purple.

He is reported to have been playing basketball yesterday...
while waiting for the results.
Also, he wants an 8 team playoff in college football.
