NBA League Pass Broadband

For those who have been clamoring for a way to watch the Blazers online, NBA.com has a potential solution.  They're running a broadband version of NBA League Pass and there's a free trial until November 11th so you can check it out.

Caveats:

1.  After that it costs.

2.  Local blackout rules do apply.

If you're interested you can check it out here.

and to actually comment about the post

MAN are blackout restrictions ridiculous. I live in Washington….no basketball team here! and nearly 50% of the games are blacked out thru NBA League Pass Broadband. It’s aggravating. I don’t want to use illegal pirate streams, but ughhhh it’s so hard to be an upstanding citizen when NOTHING works

I don't mind using streams

I'd pay for LP

If not for blackouts. They’re shooting themselves in the foot.

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR OOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTT!!!!!

faroutfaroutfaroutfaroutfarout!!!!! Holy crap!!!!! This is the best news I have ever received in my life. I will now be watching every single game and will be dead tired at work very often, but it will be totally worth it. My neighbours are going to hate my guts for screaming and jumping around like a maniac in the middle of the night whilst watching the game. Let them call the cops though. I’ve got diplomatic immunity, BWAHAHAHA!!

Maybe you could add that there is also an international version for those (currently) outside the US and Canada

International League Pass broadband (small link at the bottom of the page above, or directly here http://ilp.nba.com/).
Same price, slightly less features on the user interface than the US version (e.g. no live boxscore, you have to get that somewhere else), probably fewer blackouts (only if the game is also on some national TV channel in your region that has the NBA rights). They check IP addresses and don’t allow proxy servers/VPNs, so probably no way to circumvent for those blacked out fans in Oregon and Washington ;-)

Currently available in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, UK. That’s quite a lot. If your place happens to be not included, sorry, yet more countries might be added on request, send them an e-mail to leaguepass@nba.com and nba@rayv.com (maker of the software) to let them know.

I was waiting for such a feature for years (in 2006 something was available), and while the quality isn’t amazing and the interface/software still has some kinks (I would recommend to open the game stream in a separate window if you still want to comment on BE or do something else, it doesn’t work in tabs and the stream will stop) I am happy to finally have a sufficiently reliable source for a ton of NBA games.

I'm in Canada, and the main one won't let ME in.

EVERYWHERE outside the U.S. is shut out of the main offer.

about freaking time!!!

I’ll check it out. No black outs for me though! Apparently the Jazz don’t black out games… not that it matters. I’ll be at them.

We haven't done anything yet... but don't blink.

Blackout Workarounds

Last season I watched a great number of games on this site. In order to get around the blackouts you can setup a proxy for your web browser but I also discovered a better way for when you don’t have a proxy fast enough to handle streaming video.

Open up another game and copy its URL from the address bar into notepad. If you look at the Blazer game’s link you should be able to figure out what part to change. Don’t have access to an account at the moment to get all detailed but maybe it’s for the best so they don’t patch it immediately.

Also they may black out games based on physical address you sign up under instead of IP address. If that is the case, sign up under a relative in Washington and until they get another team you shouldn’t have any games blacked out or Utah I guess like ratbastird said.

I tried proxies, VPN software and such to sign up for the US version

And I have an address in Boston that’s real. Didn’t work, they always said the product was not available in my region. The FAQ states they screen, and they seem to use a good system cause my method worked with other services such as Hulu that check where you are.

Has anyone actually gotten this to work?

Because I’ve tried to sign up for the free trial every day for a WEEK now and every time it says “not able to redeem coupon at this time.” I sent an email to customer service three days ago and haven’t gotten a response.

Unless the NBA just hates ME, I think it’s a big fraud.

It will probably start working, you know, November 11 1/2.

I tried using this for the San Antonio game

I live in San Diego, and it told me this game was blacked out. It also told me the LA Clippers game at the same time was blacked out. I wrote to them and complained and they sent me some BS about local games being on blackout…Now, my question to them which was NEVER answered was if I’m in San Diego, how is San Antonio @ Portland Blacked out as both teams are over 1000 miles away from where I live? They’ll not be getting a dime of my money.

Every child must be encouraged to get as much education as he has the ability to take. We want this not only for his sake-but for the nation's sake. Nothing matters more to the future of our country: not military preparations-for armed might is worthless if we lack the brain power to build a world of peace; not our productive economy-for we cannot sustain growth without trained manpower; not our democratic system of government-for freedom is fragile if citizens are ignorant.

NBA League Pass broadband is absolutely horrible this year. Its like watching a choppy 56k stream from 1997. Its completely unwatchable most of the time. I was going to buy the NBALP Broadband stand alone package but there’s no way in hell I’m paying for it the way it is now. If they would go back to the system they used for nbalp broadband that they originally used, I’d do it in a second. And as far as blackouts, if a game is nationally televised, it will be blacked out (every game so far has been nationally televised on TNT, NBATV and ESPN).

ok, sounds like a few of you are at least getting past the registration screen. Which makes me wonder if it’s because I’m using a mac/safari. Could you tell me what browsers you’re using that work?

by LicketyBrindle on Nov 5, 2008 4:10 PM PST reply actions

Macbook, OS X 10.5.5, Safari 3.12. i got the feed, but..

tried Firefox too… it was like has been said above, it was horrible. interestingly, it was fairly smooth until there was a lot of action or camera movement. too much rapidly changing information for the viewer to read, maybe..
i dont know, but it was extremely disappointing. does anyone know if this is normal? if they actually sel this product? anyone have it last year. im in Brooklyn, and travel a lot for gigs, and was looking forward to LP this yr…
