Walsh: I'm Worried About Oden

Nov 30, 2008 6:08 PM EST

Knicks general manager Donnie Walsh was asked about the state of the NBA and the future of talented big men like Greg Oden and Andrew Bynum recently.

"I'm a little worried about Oden," Walsh admitted. "He's young and these young guys come in, but their bodies are not ready for the NBA, and they do get hurt. I think with real young players, they're not ready for the NBA. All of a sudden they're playing at our speed and our tempo against men. It seems that even if they don't get hit, they start breaking down a little bit."

I'm a little worried about the Knicks

They’ve got all these young guys who come into the NBA relatively unprepared. They are used to scoring 60-70 points per game in college, with a closer 3 point line and a full squad of 12 men.

Then they hit the NBA and a maniacal, sadistic, unjust, control-freak of a coach forces his players to score over 100 points a game a night with only 7 or 8 men on the squad.

Suddenly they’re playing at NBA spend and tempo against real men, and even if they’re not getting hit, they’re going to start to break down a little bit.

That is really hideous

I think Walsh

should worry about his Starburry.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

Why worry

about something you cant control. The advice from me would be to worry about what he can control. It looks like they cant control the situation with Starburry, so they wll have to cut him.

I'd worry about Oden if I were an opposing GM

but for completely different reasons.

Jerryd Bayless has two emotions: Kill and Win.

+1

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

Yeah

Oden’s body wasn’t ready for the NBA, and that’s why he got hurt. Because, like, the injury that put him out for a season happened playing NBA basketball, right? And somebody with more experience wouldn’t have hurt his ankle when landing on someone’s foot like that, right?

I’m worried. I’m worried that this comment might motivate Greg too much against NY and he might break an unbreakable backboard, or something.

The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.

Well...

That ‘proper ankle care’ is a 300-level course in most American universities for those in the athletic program. Had he had at least 3 years of college, he would have taken that course.

I wouldn’t expect you to know that, being a foreigner and all. ;-)

I’d pay money to see him break an unbreakable backboard…

pretty sure...

‘Knee Cartilage Strengthening’ is a pre-req for that course. Probably would have taken that his soph year.

Your concerns are appreciated Donnie

P.S.: Please be assured that your 2009 second round pick is in good hands. We keep it in a warm and safe place.
P.P.S: How is Danilo doing for you so far? Back spasms? That’s too bad. I hope his body is NBA ready.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
