New Orleans fans/team
Hi all,
I've been reading and enjoying BE for a couple of seasons now, but I've held off on posting until now. Mostly it's because I'm too lazy to post, or because other people pretty much cover whatever I was planning to say, but something finally prompted me to get off the couch and type.
I've noticed that a lot of people are more than willing to share their hatred of the L*kers around here, and some of us also seem to openly hate the Celtics, but what's with the respect/love given to the Hornets?
I hopped over to AtTheHive to check out their recap, and much like their team, their fans were all whining and moaning about how they handed this game to us and they lost it and it was them, not the Blazers, blah blah blah. Finally some BEdgers stepped in to lay some truth on them, and when they get annoyed, other Blazer fans felt compelled to step in and apologize. Seriously? Is that necessary? Apologizing to fans of one of the most annoying teams in the league? A team that has Chris "I sucker punch college oppenents in the balls" Paul, Tyson "I would be nothing without CP3 but I still talk trash" Chandler" and David "soft as TP but still mouths off like Garnett" West? Their team and their fans are fairly poor losers, and if they are unwilling to admit that a better team whooped them, then they deserve to have a few people enlighten them.
I'm all for not being obnoxious fans, but at the same team, we have to grow with our team. We shouldn't be backing down to anyone, just like our team has to step up and get physical at times. We're cheering for one of the best teams in the league, and no apologies are necessary if we feel like letting people know. I've heard plenty of crap over the years (I live in L.A.), so it's only fair to dish it out a little. Let's show a little solidarity and not help opposing fans talk trash on our fellow BEdgers.

There is no need to go into another teams forum
and rub it in their faces.
Talking about basketball = good
Whining about attitudes = bad
I’ve seen more Blazer trolling this year than I am comfortable with. I would like it to stop, but the only other way to handle it is to assure that the whole of Blazer nation isn’t a bunch of tools looking to become Black and Red L@k*r fans.
And you don't eat crackers in the bed of your future, otherwise you might get....all scratchy.
I'm not saying I encourage trolling
but I also don’t think it’s necessary for a bunch of Blazer fans to immediately start apologizing for fellow Blazer fans. First of all, it’s a little patronizing to the people who are posting in the first place. Second, I guess I just dislike the Hornets players enough that I’m ok with harassing their fans. Maybe that’s not the right attitude, but over the last season and a half, they have joined LA and Boston as one of my most hated teams. I enjoy watching us beat them more than most teams, and when their players and fans continually have a better opinion of themselves than is necessary, it doesn’t really bother me to see them taken down a notch or two. And, in this case, it’s not like people were being childish or trying to start fights, they were pointing out that the Blazers earned that win. New Orleans didn’t GIVE us anything.

It just seems that sometimes
there are more Blazer fans posting in the comments then there are (insert team here) fans. That’s gotta be irritating… after a loss… especially if we’re running a little smack.

I don't think I personally went over the "ne ner ne ner ne ner" Line,
I’ze just sayin hi…. :(?
but on the real, this is sports and a nice little “we’ll get em next time” attitude is what makes alot of it worth it, and is kinda the fuel that drives the beast….
I don’t like full out flaming but a little elbow rubbing is alway’s appriciated…
besides, if and when a ….“classier” rivals fan does drop in on the edge, he’s shown to a very good intelligable time, and usually alway’s comes back for more in a good competative nature….it’s all good man….right?
n if they/we/I become a problem for them/us/we/whatever, the admin dudes just rip the cord and I gentally land back on earth kicking and screaming… ;)
sort of. I don’t think flat out being rude is cool, nope nope nope, if it comes to a confrontation, well, I’ll just say how’d’do and I’ll see you later friend….but if it’s taken in stride, we’ll……………..friends are made that way sometimes right?
either way, I’m just a bonehead with a guilty consience tryin to hash out a little bit of dignity out of the deal, despite really not feeling like I did anything wrong… :’(

After watching the
Hornets yesterday, I lost any respect I had for them. They look like they want you to roll over to them, and if you dont they start doing the dirty work. Like West did to Roy? So Roy said “what was that about”?
If you they loose they start acting like punks.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

And Paul
also threw Sergios had of his back. His face to looked like was saying " who the hell are you", to Sergio. “Get the hell off me you piece of garbage”. And so he acted that way. Then West trying to act all like Lamar Odom.

I'll post again what I posted over on At the Hive:
I appreciated how well the Blazers played played. Among other things, Brandon Roy is amazing, LMA is a really good player, and Rudy Fernandez is probably my favorite non-Hornet in the league, both for his game and his quirkiness.
But At the Hive is a Hornets blog. I’m going to talk about the Hornets’ problems and issues and how they can be fixed, first and foremost. If you want analysis on how the Blazers "won" the game, stick to what is probably the best NBA team blog on the internet- Blazers Edge.
I’m going to be more focused on our needless loose ball fouls and lack of discipline on the glass that changed the game at the end of the third quarter. Chalking the game up to the Blazers playing better (which they clearly did, or they wouldn’t have won by 15) provides nothing to my fellow Hornet fans in terms of how we can improve and what facets of our game need to change. My recap will always inherently focus on the Hornets’ shortcomings more than anything else, for that reason. If you find that "disrespectful," if you find that “whining and moaning,” fine. It’s not going to change.
Finally, thanks to all the BEdgers that kept it classy. Have a great day.

I'm rec'ing...
keep doing what you’re doing. If you build it they will come.
The Blazers haven’t proven anything yet. They’ve won some games they deserved… and got lucky on others. It seems premature for fans to be asking that other people bow in our presence.
Now after a few rings, maybe that will be okay with me… after all, it’s what good rivalries are made from.

Love CP3
and the way the Hornets play, that is why I am not going to go talking trash about an excellent team. Especially when we have not shown that we are near as good yet. Seriously the Hornets look wayyyy different when they play somebody besides the Blazers, neither of the games this year have showcased how good they are (not that I want to see them play that way against us!). Thank you for writing here Rec’d and appreciated.
Jaws were hitting the floor as Greg repeatedly attempted to tear the rim off the backboard...
Totally agree
Snide, mean-spirited trolling is just plain uncool.
But the issue even goes deeper than that. If you wish to post comments on a blog that’s dedicated to a team other than your own, I think you should limit your discussion to specific issues surrounding that team.
In this case, I utterly concur with aththehive’s contention that Blazer fans aren’t really bringing much to the table when you go to an opponents blog following a Blazer win and write something to the effect of “Your team lost because Brandon and LaMarcus played really well.” Even if that point is 100% accurate and even if it is expressed with the utmost courtesy, it’s really not germane to the discussion that’s taking place there. But if you were to offer a thoughtful, respectful critiques of the play you saw from Chris Paul, David West or Tyson Chandler, I’m sure the regulars there would have been more than receptive to reading it.

Go green
Really, the time to talk about the Blazers on someone else’s blog is when they start a fanpost about the Blazers. Then, you interact with their points.
If you make yourself a long-term member of their community, and talk about THEIR team like knickfan has done here, then from time to time they’ll welcome a discussion about your team, too. But that’s only because you’ve made friends there, and friends like to chat about things.
Really, about the only reason to drop in on someone else’s blog is to make friends. Any other motivation is probably going to end up in rudeness.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.

Even though knickfan has been a little passive aggressive at times (come on, admit it), he keeps the conversation where it starts.
And you don't eat crackers in the bed of your future, otherwise you might get....all scratchy.
Passive aggressive?
I prefer to think of it as “provocative”
Fair enough
Passive, upon further reflection, was clearly the wrong language.
And you don't eat crackers in the bed of your future, otherwise you might get....all scratchy.
Last night I went to a party with friends
After we got drunk we went out and beat up a Hornets fan. Well he was actually a “homeless man,” but we were drunk and when someone yelled, “Let’s get that homeless man!” I thought they said “Hornets Fan.” I kicked him in the crotch and said, “That’s for your blog, punk!” Looking back on it a day later, I think we might have went a little overboard.

Kurt Russell > CP3
Snake Plisken and Jack Burton would write inappropriate things on a Hornet’s blog. Especially if “intheHive” was actually the Duke or David Lo Pan.
quid Latine dictum sit, altum viditur
I don't see why this is an issue...
Most of Dave’s recaps focus more closely on what we did wrong rather than what the other team did right. In order to get better and realize what needs to be worked on, it’s makes more sense this way.
Do you think Nate talks to his players after a tough loss saying things like “Well, there’s nothing you can do, they just played better”?
If you're paddling upstream in a canoe and a wheel falls off, how many pancakes fit in a doghouse? None! Ice cream has no bones!
I don't even have time
to read all the posts here, and I certainly wouldn’t spend time trolling other teams sites…

BE is only as classy as its last post so clean it up
IMO some of the posts above aren’t too pretty. Go Blazers!
There are two kinds of people, those that have your back and those that stab your back, and BEdge has some of both...
Finally some BEdgers stepped in to lay some truth on them, and when they get annoyed, other Blazer fans felt compelled to step in and apologize. Seriously? Is that necessary? Apologizing to fans of one of the most annoying teams in the league?
A lot of people want to be hall monitors for Blazerdom. Some sort of weird existential validation or something…
Then they get together and engage in ritual self-congratulation about their self-righteousness.
It’ll probably be the root of a new religion in the Blazers ever blow up nationally, ha ha.
t
"Now with a non-provocative footer!"
Exactly.
My point has never been that I advocate posting on other teams boards. In fact, I don’t really see much value in the posts where people from BE go to other blogs and say “good game, you guys are tough, you’ll do better next time…” (mostly because it comes across as a little condescending and annoying, IMO), let alone the trash-talking ones. My point has been that it’s not necessary for others to come in and apologize for stuff they didn’t have any control over. If you think other Blazer fans aren’t being as classy as you, just let them make asses of themselves.
Becuase there are stupider people than most blazer fans who tend to think one dumb blazer fan represents
all blazer fans….it’s not the fact that that persons opinion matters or not, it’s the simple fact that they were that stupid to think that way without automaticly considering the alternative, that not all fans of the greatest team on earth, are as fickle/stupid/annoying/arrogant/cocky/overachieving/you know, middle class…… :)
and they don’t want to be pooled into that group….BY ANYONE.
and that’s why they appoligize for us annoying/stupid/fickle/arrogant/cocky/over/underachieving…top of the bottom, but bottom of the middle class type people.
I think.
The Faith don't panic, the faith freaks out burns out farms and torchs small villages in the name of The Faith.
When I see a blog that has
rules about obnoxious Blazer fans (I believe Blog-a-Bull has a Pritchslap rule and somebody has a Bowie rule) it makes me concerned that the blogosphere and beyond is starting to view Blazers fans the way we view L@k*r fans. That’s no good. That needs to be stopped. That is the reason for the apologies.
And you don't eat crackers in the bed of your future, otherwise you might get....all scratchy.
