Solving the Blazers Problem (Not a trade post about AI)
I have it--the answer. No, not the Answer, but a real answer. His name?
Dizzle.
Boom Dizzle.
Think about it. What do the Blazers need right now? A point guard. Everyone keeps coming up with ridiculous propositions to bring us Gerald Wallace and whatnot, but THINK ABOUT IT! We have good small forwards! The Blazers are 5th in the league in PER at the small forward position. On the other hand, we're 9th in the league at the point guard position...9th from the bottom!
What we need is a point guard. We have a center. Greg Oden will be fine, and Joel Pryzbilla is a beast. LMA is a player, we're good at the small forward, as indicated by our rockin' PER statistics. And at SG we have Broy and Rudy and Martell.
So what do we do? We clean house. According to the NBA Trade Restriction Law, Baron Davis cannot be traded until December 15th, at which point we make our move. Combined with RLEC, we can trade Broy for Baron Davis (and a $3 million filler of LA's choice).
This allows Rudy to blossom as our starting shooting guard, and Baron can handle the point guard responsibilities that we so desperately need. Baron is a mere 29 years old--still lots of life in those legs. Our starting lineup is then:
C -- Greg Oden
PF -- LMA
SF -- Batum
SG -- Rudy
PG -- Baron
I say we do it, and we do it.
NOW!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Wait
Did you just propose the Blazers a) trade for Baron Davis, and b) trade Brandon Roy for Baron Davis?!
Well, I don’t even know how to respond to this absurdity. I think I’m gonna go eat some food til I’m sick to my stomach, cause that’s still better than being sick to my stomach at the prospect of having someone like Baron Davis on this team and trading Brandon Roy for him, to boot. Gross.
I think you need to lay off the spiked eggnog.

Seconded.
Troll: “One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.” (via urban dictionary)
And to address the proposition: NO.
Question: What part of Baron’s attitude fits in with Pritchard’s vision? (could you share a story of Baron getting along with coaches or interacting well with his community?) Honestly, from what I know of Baron Davis he is basically a thorn in his team’s side. Of course this is purely periphery, so I would like some more information about him since you think his demeanor would mesh well with this squad and you aren’t caught up, completely, with how well his stats would fit in.

Maybe you can also trade Marcus Camby for Amare Stoudamire, Zach Randolph for Chris Bosh, and Al Thornton for Dwight Howard. Then the Clippers would be AWESOME! Why don’t you go to those teams’ blogs and talk up these deals too. Let’s make it happen!
by Kaboomm on Nov 27, 2008 4:56 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
now THERE'S an idea
Marcus Camby is one of the best centers in the league—total debacle that he didn’t make the all star team last year.
In all truthfulness, I’m surprised no one has proposed a way to try and get Zach Randolph back. There’s only so many 20/10 guys in the league, and Z-bo’s one of them.

This is brilliant bruh! Do it now ;-)
I love it. We would also see Jessica Alba more in Portland. Baron is a point guard, a veteran, and as per Bill Simmons still the fastest half court lap sprinter anywhere. Is Roy a point guard? Is Roy that quick? I don’t think so. And he might even hit final shots, which is just so unnecessary.

This is an utterly brilliant thread, for anyone who's also following the drawer thread
The original post is so insightful. Baron would get Nate’s schemes so much better than Brandon. Baron works great under structured sets! And by going to the LAC, we would mitigate any possibility of Brandon’s trade coming back to haunt us. Brilliant.
Besides, I don’t remember Brandon ever personally beating the #1 Dallas Mavericks in a 7-game series. And as we all know, past experiences are the best indicator of future success.
In short. Duh. what an obvious trade. I’m just not sure the Clippers would do it. Dunleavy is way too saavy a GM.

Finally, a reasonable Blazer fan.
You can’t argue with numbers. Baron Davis is paid $12 million a year for a reason.

Is he serious? I honestly cant tell if you are trolling or not.
You are trying to make valid points, so I guess I’ll assume you are not a troll.
Top 5 reasons why the Blazers are better off with B-roy and would never trade him for B Davis.
5. Davis is already 29, and his production has gone down a little bit the last 2 years since the amazing playoff series with Dallas. Roy is 5 years younger, was ROY, is on a very short list of players of made the all-star team i their second year, and is improving before our eyes. His ceiling is way higher that Davis who has possibly already hit his.
4. The team was basically built around Roy. He is our facilitator for large stretches of the game, setting up cutters and shooters. He shoots when he needs to. Baron coming would change the offense quite a lot I think.
3. Davis is not a Mcmillan style PG. Nate likes more traditional PG’s, who are pass oriented and defensive minded. Davis is neither.
2. Roy has “it”. You can’t put your finger on it. It’s not in the stats. “It” is the ability to understand and control the game better than you. Opposing players talk about Roy having “it” when they are asked about him. Davis does not have “it”.
1. Roy is the heart and soul of this team, this franchise, and this city’s sports. He isn’t going anywhere for anything less than Lebron.
I’m not a B-dizzle hater. I love his game. But this one isn’t even close. Any GM in the league would rather have Roy than him.

This team is nothing without Roy.
It is like asking for a trade of Dwyane wade for Steve nash. there is no way we will trade our franchise player…..

Two more words:
Stevie Franchise: He is already on the books and he is a solid character fit with our current squad. My thinking is that KP is just holding back until the playoffs and then he’ll call him back from Cabo and unleash his wraith in the Western Conference Playoffs.

would be a perfect fit....
if you didn’t have to give up roy. I don’t think you could do that but honestly I have visioned Baron davis as a perfect fit for the team. I personally would straight up trade the two because Davis is the real deal. I can see where roy is untradable as he means so much to the organization however, stop hating on baron because he is a great player with a lot of heart. I think if we had him We could be a playoff threat and right now we are not. I think Roy is too but I could see the PG having a huge up grade and the down grade at SG wouldn’t be so terrible. Baron can drive and score just as well as roy in Iso and We all know the dude is clutch if you watched the playoffs two years ago.

Look at the facts......
Quote “and by the way Boom is 10th in the league in PER.”
COMPLETLY false!
Baron Davis is ranked 10th among PG’s, and 51st in the league, with 18.17.
Brandon Roy is ranked 4th among SG’s and 17th over all with 22.53.
This shows that based on PER Roy has a signifigant advantage. Even Oden, who has been saposidly “underwhelming” at times and is a rookie has a better PER than Davis.
He could potentially be a good adition to the team, but for many, many reasons this trade is a wast of time….. Wow i just wasted so much time just writing this…

i just can’t stand everyone bashing him! Comparing it to Bosh for Camby or something like that. I mean come on they are both awesome! They are even in skill in my opinion W/ baron being more explosive and Brandon W/ more intangibles. On more thing Since when is baron been known as a bad guy? I have always thought he was a good teammate? definitively nothing like Steph! Honestly if you added him to the team W/ out giving a player or at least not a starter (impossible just saying) instant contender in my mind. So everyone calm down I think this was obviously a joke but don’t hate on the Baron just cause you have a man crush on Brandon (can’t really blame you if you do)

Ok, it's been long enough to make this clear:
This entire post was a joke. In the junk drawer thread on Thanksgiving (which was really quiet here). Tom said he was bored, and wished someone would make a controversial post, just so people would start posting and he’d have something to read.
He said he wished someone would use a nick like “bdizzleistheshizle” and make a post about trading Baron for Brandon, just so we’d have a lively conversation. A current BE poster (which is pretty obvious now, but whom I will not out), put in a lot of work into a complete joke post.
One of the giveaways is my post early in the thread, where I note that this thread is genius if you’re reading the drawer thread… then I join in the fun with my utterly absurd comment. I couldn’t believe that didn’t give more hints actually.
So some people read this post without reading the junk drawer. And they took it seriously. And then it snowballed from there into what you see now.
The best part is both Tom and the “bdizzleistheshizle” character rec’ing comments that disagree with the original post. That was pretty genius.
The reason it’s rec’d is that people enjoyed the joke. Those who didn’t realize this is a joke (because they missed the junk drawer thread) are wondering why it’s rec’d. I figured it was time to stop and fill everyone in who wasn’t around for the quiet Thanksgiving day here.
