Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Thanksgiving

You guys have already started with your Blazer-themed Thanksgiving tributes in the sidebar so I don't feel obligated to write a huge one this year.  I'll just offer this:

--To Brandon for being one of the most reliable, multi-faceted, and sane All-Stars in the league...

--To Lamarcus for continuing to work so hard on your body and your game and pouring in all those points...

--To Greg for being huge, dunking like a freight train falling off a bridge, and staying healthy...

--To Steve for putting in all of the hours and getting half of the credit, plus for hitting those threes...

--To Nicolas for the hustle, for blending in seamlessly, for stepping up when called upon, and for giving Sophia something to talk about...

--To Travis for sharpening that three-point shot and for being clutch...

--To Channing for the made jumpers and for making every media person in the area laugh and appreciate their jobs...

--To Rudy for moving excellently without the ball and for knowing what to do with the ball when it's passed to you...

--To Sergio for sticking with it and for those beautiful passes, especially the alley-oops...

--To Joel for being OUR guy, Portland's guy, the one who makes us feel safe about this team's effort and rebounding...

--To Jerryd for the intensity and the promise of things to come...

--To Ike for suiting up and going at it while coming back from injury...

--To Raef for a couple years of hidden service and for opening up trade possibilities...

--To Nate for having taught these kids the right way for the past couple of years so that their coming of age could be filled with integrity and have staying power...

--To all of the coaches who work long hours to prepare this team...

--To Kevin Pritchard and the scouting staff who all but created this team ex nihilo and continue to work to improve it...

--To Paul Allen who assembled the crew and gave them the tools...

--To the Blazer office staff for working with us and allowing us to provide coverage...

--To Ben Golliver for being the best interviewer in the business, working long hours every home game, and for bringing a whole new dimension to this community...

--To Casey Holdahl for being a great example of blogging as well as a friend, to Gavin Dawson for the radio time and podcasting, to Mike Barrett and Mike Rice, Brian Wheeler, Jason Quick and Joe Freeman, Dwight Jaynes, Brian Hendrickson, Greg Jayne, Henry Abbott, Storyteller, and all of the local and national media folks who have collaborated with us and whose participation and exemplary work have made this site better...

--To Nate for arranging Blazersedge Night...

--To all the girls who have sent lingerie pics to the blogger they're infatuated with...

--And by "all the girls" I mean mostly Mortimer...

--And by "mostly" I mean "only"...

--To everyone who has taken the time to read, comment, make fanposts and fanshots, and who has made this community such a joy to participate in...

I am deeply grateful to all of you.  This will be a wonderful season--both the Holiday and the NBA versions--and it's wonderful to spend it with you.  The best is yet to come, my friends.  And the best will be all your hearts could desire.

Happy Thanksgiving!

--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)

[Edit:]  Ooops!  To Martell...thanks for the improving defense and the long ball, both of which are going to come in handy real soon...

We Blazers fans are thankful for the better than expected start to this grueling part of the schedule.

by Balian on Nov 27, 2008 12:22 AM PST reply actions

My Thanks

Is to the entire TrailBlazer Organization. For giving all of their fans a chance to once again believe. In the Team that has been brought together for the fans. In the staff who have pushed diligently to create the most lovable team in the league. And to Paul Allen, for having the testicular fortitude to believe in the Blazers Dream. Be well all and Love the Life you live.

If you have nothing constructive to say about someone, I prefer that you say nothing at all.

you probably don't care about Thanksgiving in Spain, right?

you don’t care about pilgrims spending their first fall harvest together on the new continent?

You are right, after all it is your history.

But many people here know the meaning and people like me, who have lived a while in the states, consider it a bit ours, too.

And we're thankful for all our Spanish friends

- especially to amlmart who kept us current on Rudy all of last season – and his friend Paco who gave us wonderful caricatures. It’s fun to read your perspective.

And for our friends all over the globe – even that one in Scotland who can be as prickly as a Scottish thistle :-)

(What happened to Lily in China?)

by jorga on Nov 27, 2008 8:18 AM PST up reply actions

Not sure I like this, jorga

That’s a border-line allegation there. Accusing a Scot of being prickly and then asking what happened to some China-chick. In parentheses, as if it is an add-on related thought. As if a prickly person got rid of her, or something.

I think I’m deeply offended. You know how easily the Scots can be offended. We have to uphold our honour, and all that.

I wish I knew who this Scot is that you are talking about, so I could be properly offended on his behalf. The description doesn’t fit me, of course, and I don’t know who you have in mind. But we Scots stick together, except when we’re stabbing each other in the back. (Ever try to stab someone in the back while he’s stabbing you in the back? It’s kind of awkward, but we practice a lot. Much easier when you have a group and you can stand in a circle and all stab at the same time.)

But when someone else stabs one of our own in the back, we can get pretty testy about it. Mainly because we feel deprived of the privilege when someone beats us to it, of course.

I think I’ve forgotten what we were discussing.

And for that, perhaps we will all be thankful.

The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.

by jscot on Nov 28, 2008 2:21 PM PST up reply actions

Yes, well

the problem is, I’m a Scot too. The stabbing in the back while being stabbed actually comes pretty easy. I consider it “dancing with knives”…

I hadn’t intended Lily and prickly to be related. I just suddenly thought of her when I was thinking of our global village. Do you have a guilty conscience?

I work swing shift and Give Thanks that I get to listen to 95.5 the game’s broadcast of the games. Wheels is amazing. Game night or not, at work, someone is belting out a Boooomshackalacka. It never gets old. I kinda feel bad for the people who just watch the games on tv.(not really) but really, he gives so much character to the contests. It is fun to experience this through is eyes. I love this team. Thanks Wheels.

Wheels paints a picture. ‘Tone puts in some nice filigree. I grew up on Chick Hearn, and you can’t get better than Chick was (before he appointed himself the head coach of the Lakers in the mid ‘70s – sheesh Chick, just announce and don’t editorialize!). Off topic. Gavin is talking about being nervous about Oden not playing well right now. You take Dwight Howards

stats. You take into account that Dwight played 32 min a game. Greg had better stats per 32 minutes than Dwight did in rebounds and points, as well as blocks. A Greg Oden off an injury is playing better than Dwight did as a rookie.

While I don’t think Ben works full time hours or anything, it sounds like he keeps a surprisingly busy schedule to keep us flush in updates and post-game details. Sure, it’s a job for many of us to be envious of, but it’s not an easy job either.

I may not always be on the same page as Ben, but I definitely appreciate that he puts in a lot more time than we see here on the site.

I'm thankful for Dave, Ben, and the Blazers's Edge's.

And Dave needs to stop leading me on, because after each “burlesque” picture I take and send to Dave (to liven up the relationship), he always texts back with “too blurry send again” and so I do, and then he responds “toooo blrrrrry snd agn!!111” and I send it again and then he keeps responding back with more and more typos and misspellings, until after 8 hours the texts stop and there’s no new front page updates for 24 hours (at least).

It is crazy. I can’t help it if my mere image in a strategically draped fur coat causes even the strong minded like Dave to suffer from an awesomeness overdose! It’s worth it for front page shout outs, of course.

HAPPY GIVING THANKS!

Blazers Edge is one of the best anythings ever in the history of the moon and the stars and Earth. I love everyone here, am thankful I can talk the Blazers with ya, and I hope everyone has a great holiday season (even if you think Oden is a bust, and are thus a jerk).

Use it like a 57 year old man pretending to be a 14 year old girl. It gets quite easy. Not that I’m 57, but everyone could pretend I am, so it doesn’t matter. I’m kind of forgetting how old this persona is supposed to be, anyway. Sigh. Old age does that to a guy. Or a girl.

Happy Turkey Day

Thanks for putting together such a quality site day after day after day, Dave and Ben. You guys provide better insight and information than the entire sports-oriented “media elite” combined (to borrow a term I heard on a visit to Alaska). I know your role is supposed to be synthesis of information, and all, but you guys really go above and beyond. Bright things are in your respective futures.

You make it easy to be a Blazers fan, and a lot of people out there (myself included) wouldn’t be nearly as interested and invested in this team without you guys as tour guides.

I started out as an Oden fan, and found myself watching every game start to finish and yelling at the refs and cheering for Joelzilla even when the big guy was out “with a foot.” You guys played a big role in that.

Similar sentiments for the rest of the Bedge community. Some of the best fans in the country are in P-town, and a lot of them are on here. Happy holidays.

1. Dave & Ben you both are awesome. Dave, you are one of the best communicators via the internets. The optimistic prose and flowing rhetoric wrap a red blanket around our scorned, dissapointed , dissillusioned , hopefull, excited Blazer Lovin’ hearts. Your posts are truly enjoyable to read. Thank you. For “hiring” Ben which exhibits your humilty in accepting that you need to team up with a young, more hip , more techonologically savvy Ben to connect with the youth of Blazer Nation . Ben, thank you for taking pictures of Nic and being a very responsible reporter and journalist.

2. Thank you to all the fans on BEDGE. I am convinced that the Blazers fans are the most knowledgeable in the whole NBA. That sounds narcissitic and smacks of excessive homer-ism but seriously, read other team’s fan blogs, we are killin everyone about as bad as we beat the Kings the other night.

3. More thank you’s to the posters on here for keeping the site enjoyable and maintaining the fun atmosphere.

4. To the Blazers, for comporting themselves with class and dignity on and off the court. I would like to add to LMA that iTS OK TO BE MEAN SOMETIMES!

5. Thank you KP for drafting two knuckleheads late in the first round and then trading them for Nic Batum. Thank you KP n’ staff for being awesome and allowing Blazer fans to deify you because of your awesomeness. Thank you to Martell for getting injured and letting Nic play which made all the “Nic is Kevin’s first mistake” posters shut their ugly mouths (joke) .

6. Thank you to Oden for working so hard and sticking with it.

Thanks

I took the photo after service at a university campus this year, so naturally the majority of people in attendance was young and since it was summer their outfits were a little scantier. I just remembered that scene and found it fitting for this post :)

They were serving refreshments after the congregation on the porch and held some informal chats. If I remember correctly two of the girls in that picture were Danish, and just interested in the workings of a US ministry. Maybe it helped that he looks nice, and he was a really smart guy including economic concepts into the sermon. Also, two of the (guest) preachers were women from a Lutheran-Episcopal ministry, which is still unusual in some European churches.

Actually

those look a lot like the girls who used to (ahem) hang around with pressing theological questions. Pony tails. Huge book bags. Clothes that can’t decide between conservative and naughty.

Despite my previous protestation… (sigh) in some ways those were the days!

Only at Blazers Edge can we read more latin than in Law School!

Thanks Dave and Ben. My wife is a Latin teacher and we get such a kick out of so many references. As for:

ex nihilo

That is very high praise coming from a Pastor!
