Looking ahead ... December will be brutal.
No question we have had a tough schedule so far, and we are fortunate to be at 10-6. But check out our December schedule. If we come out of December still above .500, I'll be happy. 14 games in December:
- 2 against Boston
- 2 against Denver
- 2 against Toronto
- 1 each against Utah, Phoenix, Dallas, and Orlando
- @NY is no gimmee here since we struggle with potent offensive teams who push the tempo
Looking at our schedule, I see only 3 games in 14 that we ABSOLUTELY should win, against Washington, LAC, and Sacramento. Ouch. Somebody help me feel a little more optimistic about this.
Also, will be home to Portland for Christmas, and we're looking forward to seeing 2 games in person, against the Nuggets and then the Raptors for Edge Night at the Garden. Can't wait!!!

Agreed
I was thinking the same thing about the start of our schedule though, and here we are 4 above .500. I honestly would not have, in my wildest dreams thought +4. I’ll continue to believe. GO Zers!!!!

What will make you feel better
Is that November was almost as tough and we are going to escape with a great record which gives us a nice head start for the ridiculous December.

December is full of tough competition
but I feel pretty good about our chances since there’s a good number of home games.

8 hm games 6 road games
and 5 of those road games are done before dec 11th. After this upcoming 5 game trip the blazers will be at home for almost the rest of the month, (only two 1 game trips) where they are currently 6-0. Blazer december opponents are a combined .521 over all, and even worse on the road. I see 3 statement games on this list, (both Boston games, and the Phx game) 2 of which are in PDX. Toronto, Denver, Utah, and Orlando are all teams we can and should beat on our home court, while going 50/50 for a win on their court.
December is no where near as hard as Nov was, and this team is way above par so far, lets keep it going!

well
we should handle Toronto. They are at .500 and really haven’t beat anybody. They’ve beat Miami twice and Charlotte twice to get them to .500 as well.
I think we will beat Dallas as well. They’ve had some injuries and we can double off of Kidd, not to mention we do a pretty good job messing with Dirk (usually by sticking Outlaw on him).
Utah we have a punchers chance with, ESPECIALLY if Martell is playing by then. He loves scorching him some mormons.
The Nuggets games will be interesting, I have no idea how that will play out, though we did pretty good against them last year. If we can get K-mart and Nene in foul trouble early, we’ve got it.
Who knows against Boston?
Phoenix seems to have our number so far… maybe Greg would like revenge?

Chris Bosh has been killing it
and Andrea Bargnani has been playing well too. If you can limit those two you can beat the Raptors

We'll lose some December games this year
for a change.
If we come out at .500, we’re ok. In fact, if we come out at .500, that’s very good, given the first two months of this schedule.
But we’ll come out better than .500. We’re legit, we’re dangerous, we’ll win some of those tough games, lose some, and perhaps even get blown out once or twice.
When we’re good, we’re very, very good. When we’re bad, sometimes we’re horrid and sometimes we steal a win anyway. We’ll be very, very good in some of those tough games, and get the W, and we’ll be mediocre in some games and manage to win anyway.
We’ll be near .500 for December, probably, but that will leave us over .500 for the season.
How many teams are thinking that Portland isn’t a place they want to go right now? If we come out, block a couple shots, and knock down some 3s, every team in the league will be thinking, “Oh, no, here we go.” The threat of being blown out and humiliated can play games with your mind.
Everyone who comes will want to be The Team that won in our building, but that dream can disappear very, very quickly, and I don’t think we’ll be letting many teams back in once they get down.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.

Looking ahead, if we make it out of December with a winning record we'll need to build one of these..

Having time to practice between games we can beat any team.
The level of our players´ competition to get playing time has not equal in the whole NBA. Ask to Sergio and Frye, for example. Blazers have 12 players who might be starters in the NBA. We have three rookie rotation players still adjusting to his teammates, the systems and the NBA competition. Some players have been injured during the last months: Roy, Frye, Blake, Rudy Martel and Oden. We have Oden recovering after a whole year out because of microfacture. The Blazers are very young but they are not immature. The team will play much much better. I only want that the players have more time practising together.
Sergio + Rudy = 16
Sergio + Bayless = 16
Batum 8+8=16
