Gameday Open Thread: Kings vs. Blazers--Second Half

I'm watching the game via Tivo tonight so I have no idea what has gone on so far, but I'm opening the second half thread anyway.  Take your pick of snappy sayings to open the conversation:

1.  W00T!  That was awesome!  The Blazers are the most dominant team EVAH!

2.  Oh man, they better pick it up if they want to come back and win this one.  Another half like this would be disappointing.

3.  Meh.  Good enough, just pull it out at the end.

4.  Why was Sergio naked?  I've never seen anything like that before!

Chicago wins

CRAZY finish in Chicago. Neither team could stop the other down the stretch and Hughes hits a winner at the buzzer off a long rebound off a Rose miss.

Which gives Denver the division lead.

Did anyone see THAT coming at this point in the season?

Blazers playing poorly

LMA and Oden in particular are stinking up the Rose Garden. I wonder when Oden is going to show some energy. The dude is just listless out there.

We cannot put up with this flagrant lack of accountability anymore.

ok, is anyone else getting frustrated with his footwork? i know ur supposed to move laterally by moving ur feet side to side, but he gets beat EVERY TIME. how bout running to the spot a little rather than using simple lateral movement and getting beat everytime u go out to help?

i hate everything about the kings. theyre just like warriors in their NONBASKETBALL ways. this is why i dont care if the blazers lose literally every game to each of these teams. theyre both bad, but i wouldnt be surprised thruout the year if they make good teams look stupid. like play outside in more Kings, i really dont like them.

he is a good defender and a smart player. i just feel he is not playing like he could. my expectations are that he’ll do well on the defensive end and dunk on the offensive end. those expectations are not high. that is a cop out for u to say that.

i am sure he will improve, but its frustrating when people start citing his +/- and joel’s play. i just want to see a little more out of him so the detractors will silence somewhat.

Brandon Roy

was amazing tonight. We got nothing-nada-zilch from Oden, Aldridge and Rudy and he did it on his own.

Terrible effort by the Blazers tonight. Aldridge’s jumper was (is?) worse than mine, Oden was a non-factor on D and a turnover machine on O (for the 5th straight game his plus minus was terrible compared to Przy— this is a pattern now folks… this team is really struggling when Oden is in the game). Rudy is out of rhythm.

We got the win, but we have to get back to not turning it over and we have to get something from Aldridge/Oden/Rudy. Roy can’t do it by himself against good teams.

If Oden is going to be our big man patroling the middle for us for the next 10-12+ years, he has to get acclimated to playing with Roy, Aldridge, etc. Its going to take some time, but I’d hoped by now people would have learned to have a little patience. He’s still just 20 years old, and has played just 9 NBA regular season games. He’s not going to immediately be Dwight Howard, Shaq, or David Robinson. People just need to relax.

thats what happened the last several games, which have been played largely against smaller frontlines (remember, Oden only played against Shaq for about 5 minutes on Saturday). I didn’t hear anyone complaining when Greg was playing great against New Orleans, Minnesota or Golden State. Too many people are far too reactionary with Oden. I said this before, but Outlaw seems to be getting more and more into no man's land

He doesn’t do his patented one dribble and shoot much anymore. He takes two or three dribbles, can’t get to the rim and then forces up an off balance herky jerky shot that never goes in. We wanted him to drive more and unfortunately this is what we are getting. I would rather he go back to his old ways.

The team has no clue how to use him on offense. Oden is slow, lacks agility, and has no offensive game. Hard to properly use someone like that.

LMA is just missing tons of shots that we’ve seen him make. His going through the worst shooting slump of his career. On top of that, his game doesn’t help him get to the free throw line so he’s trying to shoot out of a slump like a guard.

The fact is, you have to play THEM ALL, yes, but to pick the spots they are used carefully and still to win the maximum number of games.

There will be improvement over time by ALL THREE of these players.

It’s not a “PLAY THEM MAX MINUTES AND ACCEPT YOUR LOSSES” situation at all!!!

Needs to stop playing like he’s in the WNBA. He should be coming out with an attitude of “yeah I’m better than you and I’m going to prove it”, instead of being a 6-11 240 forward who is attempting a REVERSE layup to avoid contact on a dunk.

If he’s going to be bricking jumpshots off the side of the basket, he needs to find other ways to score. An easy way to do that is to actually draw contact, LMA probably averages the least amount of free throws of any starting power forward in the league. I’m not saying he has to be excellent, or like Roy in this regard, but at least mildly competent.

Nic made 3 or 4 smart plays that dont show in the box score

Travis made 3 or 4 dumb plays that dont show in the box score and almost cost the game,we were clearly a worse team when he was on the floor and I am ready to give up on him.People whine about babying Greg, how long have we been babying Travis and he still looks like a rook

I mean Travis definitely makes good plays

but man , i cant STAND the black hole that he is…..the entire team realizes it too, watch them all sit and watch Outlaw when he gets the ball, no cuts, no movement – he NEVER passes.

Rip City Baby...People have no idea what is coming.

It's pretty clear that the season is over already ;)
Double rainbow of sadness:

1) JBay is getting shorter
2) We never got to see him with a mustache

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
