TRAIL BLAZERS TO HOST PORTER, GROSS ‘CELEBRATION' ON DEC. 17
Ticketed event to bridge eras, provide laughs, fund scholarship
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Trail Blazers, in conjunction with the scheduled jersey retirement ceremonies for Terry Porter and Bobby Gross this December, will host a public celebration and VIP reception on December 17 at the Rose Garden.
Tickets are only $10 for the 7:30 p.m. celebration, which will honor, roast and recognize the two honored guests among a ‘who's who' of Trail Blazers players, coaches and personalities from throughout the organization's 39-year history in Portland.
"Our goal is to host a fun, fan-friendly evening that will bring people together from different eras in our history, provide some laughs and rekindle some great Trail Blazers memories," Trail Blazers President Larry Miller said.
A VIP reception for Trail Blazers luminaries, on the Lexus Club Level at 6:00 p.m., will precede the public celebration. Hard-core BlazerManiacs who want to rub elbows with Blazers greats of past and present can purchase tickets to the private reception for $100. The cost includes light snacks, drinks and VIP seating for the celebration.
Any net proceeds from the celebration will benefit the Kevin Duckworth Scholarship Fund.
Tickets for the celebration and the VIP reception are available at Trail Blazers.com or by calling 503-797-9600. Free parking for both events will be available in the Garden Garage.

I agree with J. Canzano (won’t hear me say that often) it’s great Porter’s getting honored, but no way Gross deserved getting a jersey retired. Not like he sucked, but it’s supposed to be special to get your jersey retired. Reserved for the best. He wasn’t close to that.

If it was special to get your jersey retired, then the Blazers wouldn't already have so many jerseys retired.
If it makes some fans happy, then who cares? It’s just a ceremony and a flag in the rafters.

Porter was good. But who is he?
Porter was good. I agree there. Who is this Gross guy? I don’t know who he is and he is getting his jersey retired.

they waited too long
to retire Gross’s number, and that’s a shame.
You all are too young. If you were old enough to remember his silky-smooth game, particularly when he had all-star teammates to help him out, you would be all over his jersey retirement.
Besides, you can’t retire 30 without acknowledging Gross. IMHO you can retire 30 without acknowledging Sheed, the ref-baiter and towel-thrower. – Elgin.
