AND A PRE APROVED MESSAGE FROM AN AVID READER.

This game should be a learning experience no matter the outcome, I’m hoping for another fist through the rib cage, heart ripping out game despite the looming feeling of not quite having figuring out how to compete with Phoenix. I think that Oden finally playing against Shaq ought to be a good exercise for the kid’s development, but I still expect to see him posterize Shaq out of pure frustration. I could care less if he gets an offensive foul in the process, just as long as he throws the ball down so hard on Shaq that Steve Nash has to come over and help his Fat bottom off the court (imagining one short skinny old man, helping a tall fat old man up). This could be one for the record books and a fine place to start saying that we are for real, or another Na Sayers ammunition for the future….time will tell, but I’m enjoying the ride so far.

GO PORTLAND!!!!

Ha ha suckers

I didn’t write a report when we played the Bulls, but Matt wrote a FanShot. Dave’s da kine was 1,000 times better than what I could do. BaB is like a friend who just got dumped by his girlfriend. They are emotional and grumpy right now.

The Bulls are only comment worthy right now, they’re not FanPost material.

I still expect(respectfully request) a general overview of their fanbase and who their high on and who they wanna dump...

pretty much the insignifigant, yet insightful paragraph you droped on us for the bulls game, (although YOU could have done far far far better), I’m still a little sore about that Thomas ;)

Yeah

They hardly know me, because all they do it talk about trades and that’s not my thing. If I would have done anything more than what I did, then it probably would not have gone over well, especially after the game. They made my comment into a FanShot.

Go read the recap of yesterday’s game against Golden State. You can hardly tell by reading the recap and comments that they won, because they are not in a happy place right now.

Shaq and Oden

Anyone have quotes from Shaq on Oden? Shaq is definately one of the most entertaining characters in the league has had some of the most memorable quotes over the years of anyone. I’d love to read some off the comments he has on Oden if they exist.

Now that being said, if Shaq tries to hurt Oden like he’s tried to hurt Priz, I hope somebody finely shows some spine and step up to the big man. The things this team has let him get away with…

Talk radio down here has been very complimentary of the Blazers and the job KP has done in transforming the team. I wouldn’t mind seeing a good old-fashioned 130-128 game just like the old days between Portland & Phoenix, with Roy hitting one at the buzzer to win it!

im tipping a blazers win

and heres why:

  • if oden stays out of foul trouble the blazers are one of the few teams that could theoretically play shaq straight up
  • amare is one of the quickest PFs in the league, but LMA could possibly keep in front of him and force him to shoot jumpers, amare is not consistent.
  • our bench is a lot stronger than the suns, diaw is very inconsistent and grant hill/barbosa are the only real weapons there, we have fernandez, outlaw, sergio, oden, frye, bayless who can all make an impact
  • we are coming off 2 straight wins, the momentum is with the blazers
  • last game against the suns we really could have won that game, and we werent playing well, this time we are looking a bit better overall
  • the key play for the suns will be nash, we cannot allow his penetration and dish, nash/barnes/bell can all hit the 3 ball consistently
  • we may see oden at 30 mins and sergio at 20 mins tonite

my prediction: blazers by 7

by Yawnie on Nov 22, 2008 2:27 PM PST reply actions

so we play steve like we did paul...

and….don’t foul shaq with our centers and we should come out on top! right?

This group is just BEGINNING to gel

we can beat phoenix…

its all about confidence here…these guys are great for each other

this team can be the 5th seed in the west…

i’m excited to watch this season — my luck shav got picked up by this group.. :-) ..think about it, he was through memphis & SA, this summer .. . . i would have missed alot….

of course i mighta gotten more sleep..

good energy in this bunch…they are having fun…

was watching Shav & pryz laughing on the bench watching Channing & GO get lost on D down low…you can tell they enjoy each other and were into the game…

they are really focused in and can concievably play 10 to 11 (martel) deep without losing anything much…that will wear the vet teams out and will pay extra dividends later in the season…we’ll be less “rookie prone error” mode and still be fresh from depth + youth…

Blazer fans should be excited by this team…my hopes are that they continue to play together without trying to stick in a superstar (and his ego) They don’t need one.

No disrespect to the posts above this one, but I think Shaq is THE WORST INTERVIEW IN THE HISTORY OF SPORTS. I have never been able to understand what he says. All he does is mumble for a few minutes and then laugh.

Hey did you guys see...

The documentary on Rudy Makelele posted? I was so thrilled to see there is a part with me in it getting Rudy’s autograph on my jersey at the airport around the 3:20 point. So sweet!

It’s a really well done documentary on his journey to Portland. Most of it is in spanish but it’s a cool look into his introduction to the city from his lifelong basketball journey that has brought him here. It’s in the fanposts titled “A gift for Rudy fans”

but I look forward to Snaq O’Meal hobbling around the court and resorting to flopping beneath a GO dunk. I’ve been dreaming this since, oh, the 2000 season

End of the first, PHO 21, POR 17

Portland had a pretty bad first quarter, but Phoenix was playing poorly too. Portland should feel lucky… if Phoenix tightens up on D, this could go downhill fast.

worse…i have a bad feeling though this will turn into one of those games in the 2nd half where they just keep us at arm’s length and we can’t get closer than 7.

well the law of averages says

we’re due for a run of shots going in and such. course nothing about that law says it will happen in this game.

its easy to see

just watching…..as much fun as it is to watch oden on the floor, our team does not know how to play withj him…i dont understand why we dont just play the exact same way as with joel. dont worry about feeding it to him yet, surely greg > joel athletically right? and joels role has been solely to rebound and defend….

I hope they learn stuff from the video tomorrow, put the game behind them, and try to take care of business against and guaranteed-inspired Sacramento team after the other nights’ game. (Let’s put it this way, would Portland be inspired if they played PHO again a few days from now?)

Never ever thought we had a chance in this one

From the opening bell you could tell this wasn’t going to be our night. Only Roy and Blake really came to play. A couple of others had moments but very small ones.

It was interesting to see Shaq and Oden match up. What amazed me is how much bigger Shaq is. I mean he is really a lot bigger. After seeing Oden look so much bigger than everyone I thought the size differential would be so much less than it actually was.

I was hoping for better, just because I thought this was an opportunity for the Blazers to show themselves how far they have come. I expected confidence and a bit of a swagger. Only Roy had that and then Blake in the second half. Everyone else kind of shrunk. Not that I expected a win, I just expected better. Chalk it up to another learning experience.

I felt like everyone shrunk like they knew they weren’t going to win. That sort of pisses me off. Roy and Blake did all they could, but the rest of the team has to step up. Aldridge put forth some effort too I guess.

by Bust a Bucket on Nov 22, 2008 8:58 PM PST up reply actions

Here's the good news:

That ends the insanely tough part of our schedule.

Now the guys get to go home, sleep in their own beds tonight and tomorrow night, then see Sacramento on their own floor. And then a night off. And then a home game. And then a night off. And then a home game.

We came out of it 8-6. That’s really much better than I expected.

by LicketyBrindle on Nov 22, 2008 8:53 PM PST reply actions

There's a little bad news to be mixed in.

Not to be a downer or anything.

The team could really use a few sets of off-days to remix the offense, and get Oden settled in with the starters. It’s clear the team hasn’t meshed around Oden yet and a few good practices could help with that a lot.

Oh well, nothing like learning by fire.

It's time for Oden to stop playing scared to get injured. I notice he isn't jumping for blocks for fear

of coming down wrong and getting hurt. He also needs to start playing better and stop being scared. The fouling is getting out of hand. No excuses anymore, he needs to start.

Oden needs to start and be thrown into the mix so he can start learning. 15 minutes a game is just no going to do that. I don’t care how good Joel is doing. Oden needs the practice.

by BRoyInThe4th on Nov 22, 2008 8:53 PM PST reply actions

That'll happen to some extent

But there’s two keys there:

1. Fans keeping perspective. That’s a tough one, there’s a reason they’re called fans.
2. Oden keeping a long term growth view. I think Brandon, Nate and the rest are helping him with that.

I put the stamina thing on him

He could have been in a lot better shape coming into training camp.

He decided to let the games get him into shape. Jerry Rice never did that. Jordan never did that.

by Bust a Bucket on Nov 22, 2008 9:11 PM PST up reply actions

If he didn't have the stamina then he wouldn't have had a couple 4 BLK games and some double doubles. I think

his confidence will grow the more minutes he gets. Which is why he needs to start. Coming off the bench, then looking terrible with the second unit is not helping his confidence. The whole point of him coming off the bench had a little to do with confidence, and more with easing him back in.

by BRoyInThe4th on Nov 22, 2008 9:12 PM PST up reply actions

He is coming off of major knee surgery!

No way he would ever ever be in basketball shape. You can only get that by playing full court banging against fellas his size. That hasn’t happened a lot. Jerry Rice nor Jordan ever had the surgery he did.

He was barred from playing organized ball, and you can only get in game shape by playing organized ball.

And don’t forget he missed part of training game when he rolled his ankle, setting him back further.

If he stays healthy, his cardio will improve game by game.

I hope so. I understand the up and downs of a rookie. I don't understand the effort being there one night

and not the next. Oden should have had the energy in this back to back because he only played like 10 minutes last night.

Agreed across the board

I’m very much in the “he’s fine, give him time, move him into the starting lineup in the near future” camp.

He'll come around

He’s really looking promising early on, even though he doesn’t have “it” every game right now.

by Timmay! on Nov 22, 2008 9:09 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, I guess he needs to get in better shape. He needs to contest shots more. I don't care if he doesn't score a point

or gets his shot blocked 10 times. He needs to challenge every shot in the pain and not just foul. That is effort, that is going to make the difference between winning and losing.

Spoilsport. :)

Just a reminder how crazy our schedule has been so far.

10, 4-6

Translates 16-25 over the course of the season. Of course we will finish 41-0 at home.

Damn - you guys can fill up a game thread....

For whatever it’s worth – I thought the Blzrs played much better then the game a few weeks ago and just missed a lot of open shots.

It was a hard fought game and closer then the score indicated

Good game

We’ve got no animosity toward you guys either. :) You guys fought hard (even through mistakes) and made big shots. Well played tonight.

Thanks

yeah our shooting stroke was non-existent outside of Blake tonight.

Very disappointing.

How have the Suns been looking overall this year?

by Bust a Bucket on Nov 22, 2008 9:25 PM PST up reply actions

You guys kinda feel like a team who just wants to make it through the first round

Nothing personal. Feels like you’ve got an good team that’s just missing something to put them over the top.

Nash looks like he’s really having to adjust to TP’s offensive sets.

by Timmay! on Nov 22, 2008 9:30 PM PST up reply actions

Hope is that

by spring the system will have set in and look much better.

If healthy, the players are there. No moves needed.

Time is what this team needs. And patience.

If they weren’t so old, I would be very hopeful about next year.

As is, I think we have a not outrageous chance to get to the WCF if we don’t have to play NO or LA in the early rounds.

by Seth Pollack on Nov 22, 2008 9:34 PM PST up reply actions

I'm surprised you're so scared of NO

I really think last year was a flash in the pan and they haven’t really improved this year. We almost beat them at their place and Sacramento did a few days ago. NO just doesn’t do it for me as a real contender.

by Bust a Bucket on Nov 22, 2008 9:36 PM PST up reply actions

Let me replace a few words in those first four lines.

… and it could describe us too.

geez

The boxscore from tonight’s game looks like a turd. Reminds me of that scene in The Catcher in the Rye where Holden Caulfield is visiting his teacher at the teacher’s house. The teacher is sick with the grippe (whatever that is). He picks his nose and tries to pretend that he’s only scratching it, but Holden notes that he was really getting the old thumb up in there. Anyway, the teacher picks up Holden’s term paper and then drops it like it’s a turd. That’s what I felt like doing when I saw the Blazers’ boxscore tonight. Just plain ugly and stinky.

We cannot put up with this flagrant lack of accountability anymore.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
