Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Podcast Returns

After a week on hiatus because Casey was traveling with the team the Blazers.com podcast returns with Gavin Dawson of 95.5 The Game, Casey Holdahl of the Center Court Blog, and myself.  Topics to peruse while you're waiting for tonight's game include the recent impressive play of Travis Outlaw and Sergio Rodriguez, the Blazer you'd give an immunity idol to if they were being voted off the island, what it's really like on that Blazer plane, how Martell Webster's return will affect the team, how Greg Oden affects Lamarcus Aldridge, and whether Tuesday night's game against the Warriors was fixed or just weird.

You can download the .mp3 here or click on the link to Casey's blog to stream it directly.

I never heard the comments

so it’s a little hard for me to do that. But in any case, it’s still too early in Greg’s progress to be calling anything for sure. Who’s to say the league doesn’t find a way to guard him that limits him to 4 points and 6 boards his entire career? On the other hand who’s to say he doesn’t bust out with 25 and 12 per night by the end of the season?

Personally I think you’re safest with my prediction that he’ll struggle this year offensively and look lost at times but have an immediate defensive impact and then only get better from there until he eventually becomes great and a championship center. I was telling people that many moons ago. But that, too, is only a prediction. We’ll have to see how it turns out.

"I saw him in the face." – Sergio, when asked about how the latest Rodriguez-to-Fernandez alley-oop came to be.

Sounded like Casey was more emotionally invested in Frye and Travis (and Gavin in Travis)

While Dave takes a more neutral look were they are both expendable if the right deal comes along.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
