fir... NO! I'm not going to do it
It’s just too bad Rudy wrapped his jersey around Morrow’s fist and ran away practically ripping his own jersey off. Good call ref. you’re the best.
It wasn’t the greatest game as far as turnovers, but there were some good things in there. We kept it close and gave our selves a chance to win it in the end, but the ref’s just weren’t going to let it happen. They didn’t want Lamarcus to play last night either. That was the 1st game the refs cost us this season, but probably won’t be the last.
horrible.

I have a hard time blaming the refs
Very tough when you turn the ball over 20+ times and foul the other team 30+ times. Doesn’t mean the refs were perfect but hell, we were so far from perfect that we let the refs matter in the first place.

I wish Nate would have screamed at the ref, threw his blazer at his ugly face and stomped off
knowing he’d been ejected. At least we know he shares our anger and frustration. If I ever see LaMarcus in public any time in the near future, I will call him the B word. He deserves it, LOL

I could vote for 4 out of 5.
I don’t care about Anthony Morrow so much.
Totally in awe of Greg. Glad we went 3-2 instead of 1-4. Always hate the reffing.
I’m ready for da Bulls!

We will shake off last night and whoop up on the Bulls tonight.

Man
I really wanted the 4-1 trip I predicted before the trip began, (nothing like being proven right!) but 3-2 is still darn good on the road. With the Rose Garden giving us 35+ wins, we only need 15+ on the road to get over 50 on the season, so staying around .500 on the road will make PDX a playoff team. Good road trip, now on to the bulls, than a quick back to back on the raod. GO BLAZERS.

35+ at home?
That will be tough. Only Utah (37) and Boston (35) won that many at home last year, and there were only 4 other teams within a game or two.
That might be a bit high just yet. So, to balance it out, we’ll have to win more on the road, mainly against teams we “should” beat with an occasional upset.

35+ wins at home????????
You really think we’re going 35 and 6 (ore better) at home?
I could see 30-32 but 35? Awfully optimistic.

I see the Garden
As a HUGE home court advantage for this team. They really feed off the crowd, they won 28 at home last season and I see them winning more this year, so ya 35 wins at home is possible in my opinion.

32 is my best case scenario. I think 30 is reasonable.

Look
I predicted the Blazers to win 50+ games this year, to do that, they need to win 30-35 games at home, because the way they are playing on the road they won’t be over .500.
by usmcr3049 on Nov 19, 2008 1:51 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
If they win the same number of Home games (23, I think).....
…as last year and just .500 on the road you end up with 49

I didn’t think the refereeing was that bad until I jumped on Blazers Edge. Expect the worst and hope for the best, especially when it comes to dealing with the refs.

I usually don't participate in ref bashing
in fact, this is a first for me… but last night was awful.
We didn’t take care of the ball well enough to win last night, I get that, but the ref’s had a huge part in deciding that game in the end.

3 out of 5 dentists agree............
Loved what Greg showed out there, definitely burnt on the refs, we didn’t have a good showing out there…but we also did not give up..to the last second..or disrobing of Rudy!..certainly not satisfied with a 3-2 road trip……

Sorry to say it guys
but the refs did not lose this game for us. We did not play that well last night overall. We played right into GS’s gameplan and they beat us for it. We should not have let it get down to the end. How about the other 45 minutes of the game? We played like crap. I consider this loss a learning experience and is necesaary to the development of our team. Look how Roy was playing with Oden, very nice. We need to get LMA in on that action. Were going to have to sacrifice now to get all of our pieces flowing together. Give it time and we will be unstoppable. Imagine a night with Roy playing as usual, LMA lighting it up, our bench guys slaughtering the other team, AND Oden doing what he did last night, unstoppable. With that said I voted in awe of GO. Forget the refs, they didn’t lose this game we did.
G.O. for R.O.Y.

Hey guys who are saying the refs didn't cost us the game...
Please understand something!
People who are complaining about the refs are not removing responsibility from the Blazers for making tons of mistakes last night. Quit acting like they’re ignoring the Blazers’ play, that’s not true.
You can be unhappy with how the Blazers played, AND be really ticked at the refereeing. It was an incompetent refereeing performance, and the perception (right or wrong) is that it favored the GSW.
And worse yet, the referees interjected themselves into the final seconds, favoring one team every time.
That’s why people are ticked. It’s not about absolving Portland of its responsibility for poor play. It’s for the frustration at the refs overriding everything else because it vividly affected the final minutes.

I said Marrow because
he represents how everything was going right for the Warriors in the 2nd half. A team that normally shoots a terrible percentage from everywhere on the floor was hitting everything and Marrow is the best example of that. I’ve never seen so many contested long 2 point jumpers be made in one game.
There were plenty of times where our defense broke down and that sucks, but there must have been close to 10 long 2 point shots that were defended well by our team that GS made. Marrow probably had 5 with Maggette and Jackson splitting the rest. Contested long range 2 pointers are the worst shot in basketball. I know we take a lot of jumpers but we are usually pretty open on the shots we hit other than when Roy just catches fire. Just seeing 3 of their guys hit every difficult shot was hard to stomach.
Oh, and one more thing. In the third quarter we decided the best way to counteract Golden State’s outside shooting, Marrow in particular, was to go into a zone! WHY?!?

I thought the last call was correct
last night, and I still do today. I watched it many times. The original angle is much better than the replay they showed during the game. Rudy held him when the ball was inbounded and then he grabbed Rudy’s shirt later.
"But we need a center", Inman said. "So play him at center!" Knight yelled back. - Bobby Knight on Michael Jordan prior to the Blazers' 1984 draft pick of Sam Bowie.

Did anyone notice the PG playing time?
Blake (starter) – 20 mins (felt like less)
Sergio – 23 mins
Bayless – 4 mins
So, 27 mins for the non-starters at PG. I think this was the “silent” part of the game last night. I’d love to hear Nate’s thoughts.
by hawkblogger on Nov 19, 2008 1:20 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
He could have been giving them more minutes last night
to let the starters be more rested for tonight? I don’t know though. I think Sergio might be beating out Blake, and Nate is noticing that.
by Stegie33 on Nov 19, 2008 1:32 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I think Sergio is running the offense better, but...
he is a liability as a scorer. He has shown a recent uptick in his three point shooting, but he needs to do that for a while before he’s anywhere close to Blake. I was most interested in why Bayless played last night.
He looked SO nervous. Why did Nate put him in now? What changed?
by hawkblogger on Nov 19, 2008 1:48 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I thought he put him in there for defensive purposes and just take a look
Bayless looked really nervous and unsure on offense which probably precluded him from making another appearance. Sergio played well in the 2nd half too, so that probably had something to do with it.

It seemed the Blazers needed another creator on offense out there
It was either pound it into LMA or Oden, which wasn’t all that effective. Or let Roy and Sergio create from the perimeter. I thought Nate made the right decision last night by playing Sergio. This team is seriously in need of another ball handler and playmaker, Jack’s departure left the doors open for Sergio to fill the void. Roy shouldn’t be depended to do everything on this team.

Ding ding ding!
I think you’ve got it. We have post players and jump shooters and the only person that gets to the basket is Roy. That’s got to be Pritchards next project.
by hawkblogger on Nov 19, 2008 2:10 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Good point
We don’t have many slashers – mostly spot up shooters and dunkers (I didn’t see any post play by Portland last night).
Sergio was able to drive to the hoop without too much trouble, but he couldn’t dump it off. He tried with Oden a couple of times, but Oden had hands of stone at times. He managed to turn easy entry passes into a game of hot potato.
by torsoheap on Nov 19, 2008 2:27 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
If sergio wasn't the worst finisher on the team, he might be a solution
Bayless holds some promise there. That’s really about it. People are excited about Martell, but he just seems to give us another jump shooter. We need someone who will get to the free throw line.
That’s part of why Greg Oden is really valuable. He is already #2 on the team in FT attempts/game.
by hawkblogger on Nov 19, 2008 2:30 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yup, I agree, Martell's return isn't going to help the team much
Blazers are one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the NBA. It’s essential the Blazers find another creator off the dribble. Rudy/Outlaw is filling in for Martell just fine, probably even better than Martell.

It's the Post Position......
One of the things that has really irked me to no end is the post position Aldridge is getting. Last night Aldridge was posting up like 15 feet away from the hoop. With a guy like Maggette guarding him, Aldridge shouldn’t be denied a deep position. He should be able to take 1 or 2 dribbles and be at the hoop, not 4-5 dribbles.
Simple fundamentals.

if Nate would have got a technical right after Rudy did. The game was over so whats it matter if he got ejected? It would have made a lot of people feel like there reactions to the calls were justified.
