Song that opened the Trailblazer radio broadcasts with Bill Schonley
Does anyone know the name of the all trumpets song that used to open the Blazer radio broadcasts in the original Rip City days with Bill Schonley? I’d love to get it as a ring tone on my phone.
that's a great question!!!
i’d love to have that too!
Every child must be encouraged to get as much education as he has the ability to take. We want this not only for his sake-but for the nation's sake. Nothing matters more to the future of our country: not military preparations-for armed might is worthless if we lack the brain power to build a world of peace; not our productive economy-for we cannot sustain growth without trained manpower; not our democratic system of government-for freedom is fragile if citizens are ignorant.
-President Lyndon B. Johnson
Go Blazers
I’d be curious to know which G-State team will show up. If they get top production from what they have, it could be dangerous. Their problem is mostly inconsistency.
This is a game where we need the front line to really show up.
Oden and Aldridge can dominate… I mean, they start four shooting guards.

anybody see morrow play?
so morrow blew up during their last game, but i’ve never seen him before. did anybody happen to catch that game and could they describe his game? i have to admit i liked his humility:

Warriors Head Coach Don Nelson (49-51 vs. Portland) has coached more games vs. the Trail Blazers than any other active NBA head coach.
But, has he lost more? Let’s help ’im out tonight.

Warriors fan,
here from golden state of mind. We dont got a game thread up yet, so I decided to come bother you guys. First of all you guys are epic on your game threads and everyone on sbn knows that, so props for all you hardcore fans. It should be a great game tonight, 2 of the youngest teams in the NBA.
Not trying to piss anybody off, but I honestly wouldnt trade Andris Biedrins for Greg Oden straight up. Biedrins is a flat out stud this year, in case you guys havent heard. But Aldridge and Roy are studs, I’m excited to have our first look at Rudy.

Ill take 16points 15rebounds,
His hustle and defense are amazing, He is gonna be a sleeper All Star this year, ala Brandon Roy last year.

I have him on a few fantasy teams
he’s having a great year thus far. I think it helps that you guys play at that furious pace, but I’ll take 16 and 15 all day. Good luck tonight
WWKPD?
Maybe
but he is like a really athletic version of Joel P. Also, you might want to scale those stats by minutes and pace and see how they compare to Oden’s last two games. I am guessing that they wont look as good. Again, I like Bedrinis, but I feel like what I see is what I am going to get, hustle, defense, and boards, but a guy you dont have to guard when he is 6’+ from the basket. That has been his story for the last few seasons.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

Still too skinny,
but his speed and lenght help him compensate. Plus with Nellietossing Corey Maggete and unproven power forwards(Brandan Wright) Biedrins is pulling alot of the slack.
On a humorous note, Nellie is having Beidrins play point center on a few plays, hopefully we get a chance to see that again tonight.

Nellie is so frustrating,
expect either 15-20 mins or DNP-CD, we have no way of knowing. What I can tell you is that Nellie will continue to run Stephan Jackson to the ground.

Buike picks up the slack pretty well, doesn’t he?
here's a question for you
is Jackson the kind of player who will relax now that he’s got a contract extension or is he solid no matter what?
WWKPD?
He won't
Jack and Nellie are pretending that Jackson is LEbron James, he has absolutely no accountability on the floor. Don’t get me wrong, I love Stephan jackson as much as the next guy, but he is going to make alot of dumb moves tonight and Nellie will still run him 45ish minutes.

Reminds me of Sabonis
One of the things I miss most is watching Sabas inbound the ball after an opponent’s made basket.
Anyone else remember the way he would palm it and throw it in underhand? He was so smooth at that, and it was legitimately faster than the alternative. I’ve never seen it duplicated.
I can't argue with that, personally
Biedrins has shown real game. And has been consistently good over the last few years. His FG% is /insane/.
That said, I bet no Blazers fan would make the trade either. It’s just one of those question of perspective, I guess.
biedrins does look great this year...
time will tell who the better center will be, i’d say greg will have a bigger impact per game, he will be more than a garbage man.
If anybody want to see Jarrett Jack play.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Thanks
but I still feel pretty full from watching that dude since 05’
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
Whats the deal with Sergio,
with Bayless, Rudy, and Roy is he getting enough minutes. I read off Hollinger, that he isnt being used well and would do alot better in a faster paced system.
Well we can use a pg, till Ellis gets back, how do you think Pritchard feels about Marco Bellinelli or Marcus Williams?
Ellis to the rim.
by warriorsscore110 on Nov 18, 2008 5:35 PM PST reply actions
Sergio has been earning more minutes lately
He is better suited to a higher tempo game, but he could be coming around. He needs to either develop a consistent outside shot or improve his defense to be a long term solution though. Or both!
WWKPD?
bayless isnt getting any run. bunch of DNP CD.
by Ben Golliver on Nov 18, 2008 5:37 PM PST up reply actions
Sergio has been doing better.
But he would still probably benefit from being in a more chaotic offense. The consensus around here is that he’s a backup in Portland, and something’s going to have to change for him to be a starter. Would KP trade him? Yes, in a heartbeat if he got a better offer. For Williams or Bellinelli? Definitely not Williams – doesn’t fit our “culture.” Don’t know enough about Belinelli to say.
Bayless
gets no minutes. Sergio is starting to get what he deserves, and I am pretty sure neither Williams (character issues) or Belinelli, the summer league wonder and a position we are deep at, are of much interest to the Blazers.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
that was kind of a joke,
Pritchard is too good to take our garbage for a decent young talent

not that they don’t have skill, but especially with Bellinelli, we already have a couple of solid wing three point shooters in Webster (when he gets back) and Rudy Fernandez. I don’t see Williams being able to get time here, so I’m guessing we probably would pass
"Smile! You're on a poster!!" - Mike Rice
we're really a bad team to pick as a trading partner,
because we are stacked a legit 2 deep at every position, and so the extra players at some positions are not worth trading for us because we don’t really have a burning need for scrubs at any other positions.
Still need a strong low-post 4, but Golden State isn't where you go shopping for that...

Hey lurking Warriors fans
You guys happy with NellieBall or think it’s time for a change? Your team looks to be treading water for the next couple years, in my opinion, unless they get some kind of change.
...
I dont got enough time to discuss that. Nellie is a great coach bu not good at developing young talent, and we are the youngest team in the NBA and clearly rebuildng. Nellie was extended, as a political move, while Robert Rowell(our team president) is quietly shoving Chris Mullin out the back door. Our front office is in a dissaray, Rowell has humilated repeatedy Mullin and Monta Ellis to the media.
Back to the original question, Nellie is great and he keeps us fun and exciting and we love him. But it doesnt take a genious to see he isnt the right guy to develop our young team.

Well
I would like for the Blazers to run more.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
The key is for them to run competently. We've seen too many 3-on-1s crashing and burning last year...
……………………….. It’s sort of like the Soviet army trying to run into Finland during WWII. Not the best tactic for this group.
It’s 90% coaching, 10% Brandon’s preferred pace.

Question for all...
what is THE #1 thing you want to see tonight?
For me… the same confidence from Greg we saw in Minnesota.
I want to see Greg out of foul trouble, playing confidently, hopefully getting 25+ minutes.
He has done alright with fouls, but it’d be nice to see him avoid them, though GS is a team that can take it to the basket.
A few blocks would be nice as well.

4 Solid Quarters of Blazer Basketball.
No huge, gaping slump where the Blazers tune out for a period.
Then of course a blow-out for the Blazers. Not an L.A. first game of the year blow-out, but a game that builds to a nice crescendo and the Blazer take hold and finish the job.

They were getting any shot they wanted all night. Looks like ATL might be the NBA’s equivalent of this year’s Buffalo Bills.

Oden got blocked but kept at it until fouled
Nice tenacity when it’s obvious his hops aren’t back yet.

he's only going to be here for the game
I don’t think Ben or Dave will get to him in time. But maybe he’ll stop if he knows we don’t like it.

I don't really get why we have GSW dude in the thread? but oh well

GET SERGIO OUT OF THERE!!!!!
"Sergio is clearly the MJ of 3rd string point guards!" —Mortimer Pritchard
they'll give that to Serg
"I saw him in the face." – Sergio, when asked about how the latest Rodriguez-to-Fernandez alley-oop came to be.
Nice steal and behind the back dribble by Sergio...
only to turn it over and Jackson hits a 2.
beeeeeeep!
Let your Bayless face speak.
Timeout Portland
GSW leads by 3, Morrow is on again and giving them a big lift.
The bench squad isn’t doing well, and Sergio’s not having a good leadership game.
The way the Blazers lose this game is this: Nate goes small and they run. Sergio is THE WORST for this scenario...
"Sergio is clearly the MJ of 3rd string point guards!" —Mortimer Pritchard
let's not react to how they're playing
let’s make them play to our strengths instead of theirs. That seems pretty simple.
Don’t play a zone on a team that both wants to shoot from outside and is hitting their shots. Don’t play fastbreak basketball when it’s obvious that we can’t.
WWKPD?
I don't like Channing Frye playing at all. He sucks now. What happened. He doesn't play hard at all.
On the other hand I am loving Sergio’s play. His turn overs aren’t bad ones. It was a good idea just bad execution.
Sergio's decisions are terrible this game..to beat the warriors you slow the game down
Take fast breaks when you have clear numbers. He looked to take a contested 2pt jump shot and kept pushing the tempo.
BINGO, BANGO, BONGO
Sergio looks funny...
making good plays he usually doesnt make(nice rebounds, steals), then messing up the plays he usually finishes…
RUDY > MJ
Put Brandon at the point and play San Antonio speed and murder them at the low post.

Always Trouble
when Channing tries to create his own shot. Frye is most effective when he just catch and shoot.
Why play zone when you have Greg Oden?

oh, Sergio
He has come a long way, he looks great out there in stretches except for when he has to create his own offense. Surge and Oden really isn’t happening yet.
the 1st TO they gave to Serg
was pure bull poop. it was the one where oden, in error, tried to get it to serg in the lane, ball never even got to serg.
"I saw him in the face." – Sergio, when asked about how the latest Rodriguez-to-Fernandez alley-oop came to be.
that's not sergio's fault
he’s playing the best out there right now. Oden is on the lower end of NBA game speed right now. Sergio’s mistake was dishing to Outlaw from the side.

It is Sergio's fault
It’s his job to control the tempo and doing a poor job of it. That 2pt jumpshot on Biedrins is inexcusable.

Well Sergio may push the ball too much but he is way more in control than last year.
He’s made up for mistakes by playing aggressive defense. When Joel blew that easy lay up that was annoying. Roy amazing set up and he dunks it into the bottom of the rim. No joel, the ball goes over the rim and threw the hoop…derrrrr.

If Rex was aggressive and confident it would be a great game
Right now Nate put him in a bad situation. He’s passive and anxious. If Rex had played in the 1st half of other games, then I would be more confident.

I like the Rudy, Bayless and Roy line-up
won’t work against everyone, but I’ve been waiting awhile to see it.
We should be up by 10 but Aldridge has done nothing. If Aldridge would stop playing soft. I never
thought I’d say that, but he is playing that way.
i've been saying that for 2 years now
he doesn’t like playing inside and ALWAYS falls in love with that 15’ jumper.

Aldridge is good at playing in the post. He needs to stop looking to play outside when he is not on.
I mean his shot seemed better last year.

that's my point exactly
i didn’t read the article on Nate encouraging it…I’d MUCH rather see him at least on the high block, preferrably the low block, getting boards and using that finesse and footwork from some pretty shots ala Hakeem the Dream

Hey this might sound like heresy but I want all y'all's thoughts
What would you say to shipping out a Sergio + Rudy package for a top tier point guard after this season?
Yes, I know it’s heresy.

i'd send Sergio(or blake) and LMA
I dont’ think we should part ways with Rudy at all!

LMA only for another PF
And there is not much upgrade potential in his price range. Bosh would be fun, but he goes nowhere until at least 2010. And even then he’s likely to stay.
