Maybe Brandon was right...
As long as Brandon compared GO to Dwight Howard, let's take a closer look.. Here's a comparison of Howard's first year stats - converted to 48 minutes, compared to GO first 4 games - also converted to 48 minutes.
Points:
Howard; 17.67
Oden: 16.9
Rebounds
Howard: 14.7
Oden: 16.1
Turnovers
Howard: 2.94
Oden: 3.73
Blocks
Howard: 2.44
Oden: 6.21
Assists
Howard: 1.33
Oden: 0.75
Steals
Howard: 1.38
Oden: 1.24
FG%
Howard: 51.9
Oden: 44.4
FT%
Howard: 67%
Oden: 61.1%
Now consider that Oden has been sitting out for a year and is still getting used to his teammates. Oden a failure? His numbers look pretty decent compared to Dwight 1.0, and that's all we can fairly compare right now. If he stays healthy and continues to get better, he certainly could be as good or better.

Way too early for this stuff.

Greg Oden's last 48 minutes of basketball
have been highly encouraging.
Let’s leave it at that until we have at least 10 games to go on.

We do have 10 games to go on
and he has 48 minutes of basketball.

The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.

also
while Oden is coming off an injury (which can’t be easy), we can’t forget that he’s two years older than Howard was during his rookie season.

bear in mind
a lot of Gre’gs stats are against 2nd units….
still though, very encouraging.

Also
half of Gregs Games have been coming back from injury, and have been very abismal. But His stats will improve woth the 70 or so games left this year.

A lot of those stats are pretty misleading
Based on what we know, we already know that Howard is a better defender, so he should be getting more blocks. He’s also one of the worst FT shooters, so Oden will be having the better % soon with that. Not to mention, Oden is a good passer, while Howard has frequently struggled with passing out of the paint. The only reason why he even has those assist numbers is probably because of his wings. Plus, I don’t consider Oden nearly as turnover prone as Howard.

Howard was 18 his rookie year.
Not exactly fair, is it?

Barely a 10% difference in age
Not exactly significant is it? It’s experience that counts when age is so close

For a same age comparison
Per-36 2006-07 (21 years old) Dwight:
17.2 pts, 12.0 reb, 1.9 ass, 0.8 stl, 1.9 blk, 3.8 TO, 60.3 FG, 58.6 FT
Per-36 2008-09 (so far) Greg:
12.6 pts, 12.2 reb, 0.5 ass, 0.9 stl, 4.7 blk, 2.8 TO, 44.4 FG, 61.1 FT
In this case (Dwight Howard’s 3rd year), almost all unfairness goes against Greg since Howard had two years to adjust to the league while Greg is recovering from injury. The sample size of 77 minutes for Greg still really shouldn’t be used this way though.
Basically, Greg needs to push his FG% up, which shouldn’t be unexpected once he gets more comfortable. Not fouling as much is something else that can be expected. I doubt his block rate stays that high, and I’d be pleasantly surprised if his rebounding rate stays this high. Greg actually looks better than I thought he’d look statistically after his first two games though.
Of course, I don’t think we should expect him to be anywhere near 3rd year Dwight in his rookie season. I just hope he stays healthy and gives us solid contributions on both side of the court.

Age shmage
You basically say yourself that it’s experience that counts. Would Duncan have done better his rookie year if he didn’t play until today? Two years just makes no difference.

your using per 48, really?
has oden even played 48 minutes total in the NBA to date? Why don’t we extrapolate the Blazers expected record off this road trip while we’re at it. 3-1, lets see, that means we should get somewhere around 61-21 this season.

He has, and that sounds like a very nice win total.

I think it's a bit too early to do this
but I see your point. I stated before the season that I think Oden will have stats comprable to Dwight’s rookie year. I think it’s 12 ppg 3 rpg et cetera. I think Oden is on course to av. 10-11 points a game and 3 or 3.5 rebounds which is awesome.

Howard averaged 10 boards his rookie year
If Oden is able to get his mpg up to ~30, he ought to average 8-9 rebounds a game at least.
I think Greg will end up averaging about 10 and 10, plus 2.5 blocks in about 28 mpg. That would be a very solid rookie year for him. I could imagine, in a best case scenario, Greg averaging 14 and 12 after the all-star break.

its spelled Eyore, I believe
and I suppose its possible Greg could do better than that post-ASG, but I strongly doubt it.

I meant "13" not "3"
oops… I think Oden’s stats will be comprable w/ those of DHo (lol) ’s first year like I said but I dont expect them to be better. I can see Oden averiging more rebounds and less points as the season evens out.

Oden will be a Monster
Oden will be ungodly good.
It is going to be like watching a baby this year, where every day they change, developing more skills, and putting more together. He is a baby dominant big man this year, getting his feet under him and startling us with every new ability.
Next season .. wow. He will be hard to keep up with, and his no’s will be even more emphatic.
After that, … lean back and enjoy the ride.
If you can’t enjoy being a Blazer fan now, give it up and check back in when we get to the Finals.
