A Fan Report From MN: Chat With Pritchard & Przybilla
Taken froma thread at RealGM: http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=852799
I just arrived back in town from Minnesota and I had to share this amazing experience.
I was in Wisconsin for my grandmother's 80th. The return flight took me through Minneapolis on the way back to school in LA. When I realized that the Blazers were in town that night, I naturally changed my tickets, planned on sleeping on the airport floor, and got seats for the game.
The stadium was more than half empty, so I naturally sneaked down into the fifth row for most of the first quarter. I noticed that Pritchard was 15 or so rows up in the stands with several seats all by himself. He looked really lonely so naturally I decided to go and give him a little company :D
I introduced myself and told him I was a huge Blazer fan from Ashland, and that I was in town on circumstance to see the game. We chatted a little bit about whether I made it up to Portland anymore, and I thanked him for building a team and organization I was proud to be a fan of. He went down with the team at half time.
So then I turned to the person who was sitting next to Pritchard and, noticing the Trail Blazer logo on their shirts, asked them if they were fans. The gentlemen replied that yes they were. They asked me where I was from, and I replied from Ashland in southern Oregon. I asked the same question of him and he replied he was from Minnesota. I asked him why he was a Blazer fan, and he responded that number 10 on the Blazers was his son. I was sitting with the entire Pryzbilla family.
So I spent the second half of the game talking basketball with Joel's dad. He talked about Joel playing in high school, and his reaction when Oden was drafted (Joel didn't really percieve it as a big deal) He said Joel's favorite player growing up was David Robinson, and that he still had huge stacks of basketball cards in his house from when he was a kid. It was also fun to talk strategy, and dynamics. Funny side note, Joel's mom can't stand to watch him shoot free throws. Every time he does she closes her eyes :-? They were really nice people, very down to earth midwestern folk, and made me respect Joel even more.
The game itself was great, but this experience was once in a lifetime. I thought I should share it with everyone.

Great Post
I keep hearing stories like this, or like the fans in KC, and I think what a lucky person I am to be rooting for a sports team that actually appreciates and respects its fans.

Yeah, of course Joel is from the area, and not even Dave mentioned it in his game preview
Really nice report. Must have been quite the experience for this fan.
Yeah, Dave's reports are always incomplete
I don’t even know why I still come to this site.

I spoke
to a lady who works in the blazers graphic dept. and she said that everyone there really likes joel’s wife and that they are both really nice. Thanks for sharing this story, you are so lucky. Though you made your own luck by really going out of your way to see the game. Well done!
Dig it!

I met this guy ...
I met this guy at the arena that night—he was one of the few others with a Blazers jersey on, so naturally I said hello. The funny preamble to the story here is that my buddies and I walked over to watch the Blazers warm up, and we look down and see Pritchard sitting on the team bench messing with his iPhone or something. We yelled but couldn’t get his attention. Then I see this younger kid walk past in his Blazer jersey and he was saying something to Pritchard as he walked by, but KP never turned around, so I don’t know if he was just ignoring the kid or really didn’t here him. I’m glad thy guy was able to exchange words with him a little later on in the game, though. That is totally priceless. I on the other hand almost got into a fight with some Wolves fans, which was exciting as well. Going to opposing arenas is almost more fun than going to the Rose Garden!

Doesn't surprise me about Joel's folks.
When I lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin, I was amazed by how nice (and genuine) the people are. Much as in Oregon.
(Of course I run into a large number of people both here (Wash) and in Oregon who are either from those two states, or have family roots back there.)
hakkaa päälle !
Wisconsin & Minnesota & Michigan is my favorite region of the country...
……………………… Nice people, pretty scenery.

Interesting
I grew up in Michigan, went to school in Wisconsin, and married a Minnesotan. I’ll take Oregon for the scenery and the people anyday.
I wanna go to Michigan someday
good school, nice and quiet….

I have to agree.
As much as I loved it back there, Oregon is the nicest place I’ve ever lived. It’s why I’ve kept my home there even though my job is up in Washington. It’s nice here, but Oregon and Portland are nicer.
hakkaa päälle !
what a change
that happened to me once, i talked to ruben paterson’s kid about two months after the nanny incident, pretty awkward but he was a cool kid. Just shows how much better things have got for this team, and their fanbase
Great story
Very cool
