Here is my obligatory game thread comment

The Blazers are playing well! Oden looks good.

We cannot put up with this flagrant lack of accountability anymore.

only 5 posts thus far huh? Does anyone in the first half thread realize we are in the second half?

Every child must be encouraged to get as much education as he has the ability to take. We want this not only for his sake-but for the nation's sake. Nothing matters more to the future of our country: not military preparations-for armed might is worthless if we lack the brain power to build a world of peace; not our productive economy-for we cannot sustain growth without trained manpower; not our democratic system of government-for freedom is fragile if citizens are ignorant.

The last shot there

Roy would have taken the full court shot if it wouldn’t have counted as a 3pt attempt. This is why I don’t think the NBA should count over half-court shots at the buzzer as 3pt attempts.

by timbo on Nov 14, 2008 8:22 PM PST up reply actions

Not at all!

It’s just that Oden’s 11 were pretty easy, and 8 from Joel are on the high side for him. If you’re wondering why I said everyone had a bad offensive game except Oden, I guess I didn’t mean Joel really… he hit his open shots and that’s more than we can ask for from Joel. He did great finishing, which has been a problem since last season.

Oden is able to get such great position, that when he uses his soft touch that develops further it’ll be pretty unstoppable. For example, we aren’t going to see Pryz catch a pass, spin, and dunk— and that’s ok.

So yeah, I wasn’t saying Joel had a bad offensive game, but it’s more cause I overlook him when judging us offensively. He’ll hit the gimmes and punish the enemy for leaving him wide open as much as he can, but a ‘good’ offensive game from him isn’t going to make much of a difference most nights, and especially not when Roy and LMA ain’t hitting consistently and Rudy/Outlaw didn’t get going.

The guys we count on to score, aside from Oden, didn’t do all that well tonight.

Every little bit of scoring from Joel helps, of course, and when he punishes teams for not guarding him it makes us all the better.

a few(5-7) more games like that for oden and he'll be ready to take the ball in the paint.

well i was way off on Oden.

I didn’t think he’d have more than 5-5. I’ve never been so glad to be wrong. He didn’t even look all that terribly winded. What a great game from him.

That inbounds play with 20.9 left was horrible. Roy should have passed out of that double team to LMA. He had a lane for a second and didn’t take it. But anyway, horrible horrible play. Why isn’t LMA inbounding to either Roy or Rudy and letting them create either a drive or a quick 3? It takes too long to peel off a screen and then have to find a shot. I don’t get it.

and he only played 24 minutes

Our 2R are basketball geniuses-Roy and Rudy

by asiafan on Nov 14, 2008 7:48 PM PST up reply actions

I completely agree that last play was terrible

Nate is usually $ on those. The game was positive because of Oden. But that last crucial play how do you draw up Rudy in the corner just sittining there. I’m guessing the play was drawn up to draw Rudy’s man and dish, but why take the chance that Roy gets trapped. Allow Rudy to play in motion where he is at his best, and take advantage of his lightning quick release!

To be honest it’s awesome we were in the game, and it is a huge sign when we are off our game but we still had a chance to win it on the road against a top team. You Betcha!

Not too bummed about the loss...

At this point in the season, I’ll trade a close loss on the road to one of the better teams in the west, for a kind of breakout out game for Greg (11 pts, 11 reb, 4 blks)….

by socalblazer on Nov 14, 2008 7:45 PM PST reply actions

left oden in...n blake was in foul trouble...roy...travis..???

I dunno? that’s strange. hu!

i see it as early season experiment

and leaving oden in for his confidence — making him really feel part of the team. that’s definitely worthwhile. PLUS he can hit fts.

Were Oden's dunks Massive or just soft putbacks?

One was with authority

And one block sailed through half the arena – yet it was actually goaltending. He looked really really good.

19 points, 18 rebounds, 4 blocks. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Nate needs to sit Brandon for the first half of tomorrow night's game -- he logged 42 minutes and is gonna fade fast if he plays over about 25 minutes...

Travis, on the other hand, is in line for major minutes, as is Nic.

I've got a plan......we lob up a bad shot that Dwight can block, but we do it in such a way that it hits either Rashard or Hedo in the head knocking them out for the game.

Batum makes really stupid fouls.

I feel like it’s becoming a trend…
