11/14 Drunk Jawer
It's Friday. Blazers v. Hornets tonight at 5, be there or be square. These events combine to result in a near 100% likelihood that Joe will be very drunk this evening. Also this seems like another great opportunity to point out that Chris Paul IS Carlton Banks from an alternate universe where he put his dancing skills to use on the basketball court at a young age.
In other news, Quantum of Solace comes out today to mixed reviews. I don't have insanely high hopes but I expect I will be amused and entertained for at least 90 minutes. I will await Channing Frye's verdict with bated breath.
The auto industry bailout is up next for Congress, I believe they will decide on it next week (Monday, I think?). I've been away from the news a little bit lately, so my thoughts on this newest bailout are not yet refined. Maybe some BEdgers can provide some insight.
I flipped on network TV last night to learn that over 100 homes had burned in Santa Barbara as a result of a fire that started only a couple hours earlier. The blaze was whipped up by gusting winds topping 60 mph and destroyed an entire neighborhood. Good thoughts sent out to those unfortunate families.
Tom wrote a great song about poop in the last JD, I would love to hear something off his next LP.

I usually celebrate w/ water and a phone call to the babysitter saying i will b there in 30
and if we lose, i literally down the drink and begin wallowing in self pity and resentment and anger and bitterness. Then I TEXT my babysitter and say “have him ready” .

Anyone else see The Office last night?
I’ve been frustrated with this new season. There have been some really funny bits, and I find myself enjoying the episodes. Yet, the show manages to always get so sappy and dramatic around the edges that I turn the TV off with a bad taste in my mouth at the end. I want to see silly, pointless office pranks! I want to see really awkward hilarious situations! I DON’T want to see realistic romantic relationship problems.

Are there any US knockoff’s that have actually been better than the Brits? Are there any shows on TV that aren’t knockoffs of either the Brits or Japanese TV? Have we completely given up?
I submit that Baywatch was the last uniquely American TV program.

I think Mad Men and Lost are both uniquely American.
They’re also the best shows currently on TV. As for British knock offs—I’ve found Life on Mars to be fairly entertaining aside from the main actor (Harvey Keitel and Christopher from The Sopranos carry that show), but I don’t know how good the Brit version is.

Agreed
Matt Groening fan for sure, I liked the movie a lot, just not excited about it right now. The Halloween episodes are always great.
I tend to like Futurama better just because the characters haven’t gotten old to me yet, and they focus less on social commentary, more on sci-fi spoofing, but there is always a shred of current events running in Futurama too.

comic nerddom + greek tragedy = a show more addictive than crack for some reason.
luckily the writers strike stopped the 2nd season, which left something to be desired in it’s inception anyway
sponge bob is an excellent show, speakng of baywatch, hasslehoff had a big role in the sponge bob movie.
guy ferrari is pretty dang american too.

British vs. American Office
I’m a fan of the British version, and hated the first few episodes of the American version..they did a bad job re-hashing the plots of the UK show.
Once they got their feet under them, the American version got REALLY good..and is now superior in my opinion to the British one.
The thing that bothered me about the British one was that it seemed unnecessarily cruel in its humor (humour for you Brits)..but that’s the British sense of humour for you.

And I think that the US version is better, Gervais made a more realistic boss but Carrell is pretty good and the rest of the american cast is better in my opinion.

It's still on the DVR
waiting for the wife to get home from India and the time to watch it so please don’t everybody spoil it. But… on the US v. UK versions:
I’ve watched the UK version at least twice in it’s entirety. It’s IS the funniest TV ever. I resisted watching the US version for years because I KNEW it couldn’t compare. But finally I relented and discovered as many have that after they got their bearings and started using their own creativity it’s tought to argue that it’s any worse than the UK one. It’s always good for several laugh out loud moments. It’s one of two shows I record. It’s hard to imagine they can keep it up much longer though.
Give it a try.
Besides, I think I read somewhere that it’s LMA’s favorite show, so there you go.
