Rudy Write-In! Let's get him in the All-Star game!

Okay, so we have gotten a taste of what kind of amazing player Rudy has turned out to be.

I'd say it's time to let the rest of the NBA (and the world) know it as well.

Rudy is not on this year's All-Star Ballot. I can't think of a more deserving player not listed on that form, however. Now it's pretty much a no-brainer who the two starting guards for the West are going to be this year (CP3 and K*be), based on reputation alone. This sucks, but hey, it's the way things are. It's pretty hard to argue with those selections based on the way those two guys play.

If Brandon keeps being Brandon, however, there's a good chance he'll be on the bench again, as voted by the coaches.

I say we make a concerted effort to draw attention to Rudy Fernandez, by writing him in. Sure, he's a shoo-in for the Rookie Challenge, but that's weak sauce. I say let's see if we can get him in the grown-up game as a write-in candidate.

This site is one of the most active fansites on the entire Internet. Let's show the world the kind of power we can generate by voting early (and often) for Rudy as a write-in candidate!

If Rudy's even on the radar as a vote-getter by January, then the coaches will be taking note. With the All-Star coaches, perception can be reality. The world saw what he could do in the Gold Medal game in Beijing. Let's make certain the coaches remember that moment. Let's make certain they take notice of this guy who is playing amazing ball, and making the NBA fun again.

Who's with me?

There are over 45 million people in Spain.

Compared to just under 4 million in the state of Oregon.

And if we make a concerted effort to vote every day, say 1,000 BEdgers voting once a day for 60 days… Well, 60,000 votes, plus whatever comes in from Spain is enough to get noticed—which is really the goal here.

We already know it’s not enough to surpass the two who are shoo-ins. (Barring injuries, of course. Say, if K*be breaks his leg and is out for the season, then there’d have to be a replacement.)

Wherever you go, there you are.

even if he doesnt get in

it’d be cool to see how much power in numbers Rudy truely has. I think he will be impressed by how dedicated the fans are if he sees he even has 1% of the votes despite not being on the ballot.

The West has a lot of good guards, but

It is an insult to Rudy that he didn’t even make it on the ballot. He is much better than quite a few players who are on the ballot. We should all write him in just to ensure that he gains visibility and isn’t left off the next all-star ballot or snubbed in other awards like the ROY.

by trk on Nov 13, 2008 7:16 PM PST reply actions

He will be on the rookie game squad. Along with Greg.

And on the All-Rookie team for the season (first or at least second).

go Bayless!

For the Rookie game?

Sure. Considering Bayless was the Vegas League MVP, I’d say the odds are good he’ll be invited to the Rookie game. Unless they figure the Blazers are already over-represented, with Oden, Rudy and Batum.

Wherever you go, there you are.

by Majikj0n on Nov 13, 2008 7:53 PM PST up reply actions

umm.don't the coaches pick the players on the bench?

I don’t think our votes matter for that and there is N-O way that you can top—or should top—Kobe & CP3. Deron would be there beforehand, so would Roy. China would bring TMac. And there’s more.

if rudy can get a blip on the final count

i think that is an impressive feat in itself that people were motivated enough to pencil him in.

Exactly

We aren’t going to be able to actually vote Rudy into the all-star game, but if he gets a significant share of the vote it will raise his visibility and help him gain more respect.

Guys

if I fill 5 spots from the west and 5 from the east, will it take the 11 player? I want to write in Rudy?

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

Can

we open like 10 e-mail accounts then open 10 accounts on NBA, and vote 10 times a day?

three players per team on the ballot

they have a panel to decide the three players during preseason.. maybe presumptuous putting oden over him.. but a reasonable decision at the time

those lying bastards

damn Ernie Johnson said that they picked just three.. and thats why Luke Ridnour got a vote.. I guess he meant they had to have at least three.. how lame.. actually just about every decent team has more than three vote ins..

The flash program only shows you players who are on the ballot.

But as long as you have one empty spot, and have entered the name of your write-in at the bottom of the page, it should be recorded correctly.

Wherever you go, there you are.

Write-in Rudy for All-Star 2009!

by Majikj0n on Nov 14, 2008 9:58 PM PST up reply actions

Why would a Rudy vote take away votes from Roy?

Your 2 choices on the poll are kinda misleading. You vote for 2 guards. And guess what? Rudy and Roy are both guards. And Rudy + Roy = 2 guards. So if you want to vote for both Rudy and Roy, you can. It’s not like you can pick Roy twice on the same ballot.

Not that you are asking for my feedback, but I think it would be more accurate to just provide a simple “YES” or “NO” as choices to your poll.

Write In Process

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I’m wondering whether you need to leave a spot blank in the starting line-up when you choose someone as a write-in. I’ve tried it both ways, and there’s no indication. The ballot allows you to leave a spot blank, and also allows you to complete the starting line-ups while also including a write-in.

I’m assuming that the write-in vote would be counted either way, but its not very clear.

Either way I’ll be voting for Rudy on daily basis.

by ajinoregon on Nov 15, 2008 1:52 PM PST reply actions

Good thought, but

does anyone actually think he even has a slight chance of making the all-star team this year? I mean, Rudy has been great, but is not yet an all-star, nowhere near.

And has anyone looked at the competition in the Western Conference? They are only going to take about 5 guards, Chirs Paul and Kobe are more or less garunteed to be starting I think all the following players have a better shot at recieving nomitaions for the bench:

Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Brandon Roy, Chauncy Billups, Jason Kidd, OJ Mayo, Kevin Durant, Tracy McGrady, Baron Davis, Kevin Martin

D-Will has had a bit of a slow start, but you can count on that improving soon enough. There are probably some more that can be added to that list as well. Im not saying these players are playing better than Rudy, but I think they all have a better shot at being selected. As for Steve Nash, I think he deserves to be in the game, the suspension may have hurt his hopes
