Roy AND Oden to play

According to the newest from JQ,

Greg Oden and Brandon Roy will play tonight for the Trail Blazers in Miami.

Roy says he's 90-95%

Also, Nate talks about how he hopes the return of Oden won't derail the 3-game winning streak we are on right now.

Overall, a good read, and it seemed pertinent enough to make a fanpost. I'm a big fanshot guy, so I definitely considered it. Now fill with comments to justify my decision.

From that story:
Roy, who has been experiencing lower back spasms since the last minute of Monday’s win in Orlando,
said he is “90-to-95 percent” sure he will play in the nationally televised (ESPN) game.
"The only thing I’m a little worried about is when I go from the bent position to straight up really fast,‘’ Roy said.
"I woke up this morning like, ’Man, if I had just one more day – if the game was tomorrow night – I would be perfect.
But that’s not the case. I’m hoping once I warm up tonight it will get even better.’’

After talking to Roy while we were both seated on the press table at AmericanAirlines Arena, Roy sat up and rose to his feet.

"See, right there,‘’ Roy said. "That’s when it hurts.’’

Limit his minutes.
Don’t let him get ANYTHING of Dwyayne Wyayde as a defensive assignment.
He needs “one more day”? He’ll get that tomorrow, for the big New Orleans game.
The important thing is for him to not end up needing SEVERAL days after tonight is over.

I'd sit him and have him ready to go for New Orleans...

huh?

How is Nate making things worse for Greg?

by erastus25 on Nov 12, 2008 11:26 AM PST up reply actions

piling it on, piling it on.....
Nate talks about how he hopes the return of Oden won’t derail the 3-game winning streak we are on right now.

now I’m an idiot so I could have understood this wrong…but it sounds to me like if greg plays, and we lose…..it’s gregs fault. comming from our “coach”…

of course I just read that from the fanpost here, and don’t have a quoted source….

but if he did say that…..and I was greg…..that’s how I’d have taken it….“more pressure”.

Not at all, not at all.

Here is what Nate actually said:

"I don’t want us to get caught up in depending that he is going to be a savior,‘’ McMillan said. "I want us to play as if he is not here. Keep playing that way. He needs to catch up to where we are and what we are doing, and not us getting in atmosphere of being relaxed and expecting him to do all these things. He needs to fit into what we are trying to do and how we are playing. We need to continue to move forward.’’

Not putting pressure on Greg whatsoever. If anything he was explaining his strategy of bringing Greg off the bench. Sorry if my abbreviation caused concern.

Anytime you mess with a lineup while winning

you risk messing with a winning line up.

We haven't done anything yet... but don't blink.

by ratbastird on Nov 12, 2008 12:53 PM PST up reply actions

Meh.

This is all voodoo anyway.

When the Blazers won last season while LMA was out, they didn’t leave him out of the lineup. And they kept winning.

Besides, how many games do you need to lose before it’s ok to start changing the lineup?

If the coaches think it’s going well in practice, I say go with their instincts.

i also say

go with the roasted pear ice cream. absolutely delicious unless you’re allergic.

Hey… i was negative last game and we won. Coincidence? I don’t think so. We’re messing with the line-up and we’re LOSING… Got that?

We haven't done anything yet... but don't blink.

You're talking to the guy who tries to pick against the Blazers

on the jersey contest because I think it’s good karma. No mocking from here. :)

(That and because if Portland wins, I’m happy, and if they lose, I get the contest points)

oh yeah... i need to play the contest too

The Old One won’t make it out of the 1st half without an injury. Time to move on and write articles about this phenomenal young team and leave out anything on the old busted one.

GO BLAZERS!
