When the Blazers win, why do some still complain ?
The Blazers are not at full strength, and they still have more than a few weaknesses to address. However, they're winning. They've played some very good teams, but they're finding a way to play well enough to win.
Why do so many people seem to care more about the number of minutes their favorite player is getting, rather than the final score ? Why should it matter ?
Does it matter whether it's Sergio hitting a "3" rather than Steve ? It's still three points for the Blazers, right ?
If Sergio plays 30 minutes, has 15 assists and 12 points, but the Blazers lose, is that going to be OK for all of the Sergio fans ? What if the Blazers win, but Sergio only plays 5 minutes ? Is that going to feel like a hollow victory ?
I'm a big fan of Sergio, and I would like nothing better than for him to play well enough to be able to win the Starting job. For that to happen, Sergio would really have to improve, but that would be great for the Blazers, because players playing better should lead to more victories.
If Sergio was to win the Starting job, then I'd be rooting for Steve to get better and take it right back ...
I like all of the Blazer players, but I like the Wins a heckuva lot more !

It's the weather...
And I prefer the glass half empty.
Really, I think it would be a rather boring community if we all were in love with everyone on the team and just came on here to express that. I personally get cheap satisfaction from complaining and love a good debate. Or even a bad one, for that matter.
Just an opinion.

Critique of something like style of play is understandable ...
I definitely feel that the Blazers have flaws (too many jump shots, not good enough perimiter defense, etc.), so why isn’t the focus more on those kinds of things ?
I just can’t understand finding fault with the rotation if it results in a Win. If the Blazers get a Win, then the right players played the correct number of minutes, and did enough of the right things when they were in the game. Period.

There's a fine line between complaining and criticism
I was sitting here earlier today, driving and thinking “That was a great win last night. But it’s so frustrating because there’s all kinds of holes in their game still. If Orlando played better, that would have been a loss”.
Most people who are complaining are doing so because they also think it’s for the best of the team. Whether it’s fair criticism or not. Complaining is ok. :)
Sooner or later, if the things I’m unhappy about don’t change, and the Blazers are doing well, I’ll shrug and say “guess I was wrong!”. At some point, the regular complainers will too. If they don’t, they lose all credibility and can then be labeled simply as “complainers”, who are only happy when they’re unhappy.
But there’s lots of reasons to complain still. Winning a game doesn’t make them go away.

Criticisms about playing time and player rotations is more about the prognostication of our future roster. We are all trying to do our best KP impersonations and look toward the future…while reveling in the present. Of course a win will always be a win, but the happiness of our players and how they see themselves fitting in to our future plans are huge factors in getting a player to sign an extension. Those with favorite players, I would assume, are fighting for their guys to get the minutes because they want to see them around for a while. And while winning now is great, preparing for wins in the future can be just as good. We want to see our team maintain a solid foundation throughout their championship run and there will be plenty of hard decisons to make regarding who will be around for that. I think it is great that people have singled out a player or two and have become their advocates. This may be reading too much into rabid fanaticism, but it is why I will continue to push for Jerryd to see more PT!

I'm not complaining
I am critiquing.
I’ve seen a team start off behind the curve I thought they should be on. I see mistakes made that this team shouldn’t be making. I see a team that still isn’t a team but filled with individual players. I see a defense that doesn’t know where to go and doesn’t go there with confidence and authority.
There’s winning a game playing at your potential, and there’s winning a game while making the win difficult and lucky. I’ve been frustrated because I know this team is better than this. I’m frustrated because I thought this team would roar out the gate with 5 yard precision and confidence. Instead I’ve seen a team that’s been hesitant. Instead I see players that don’t always see each other. Instead I’ve seen players that don’t know how to run a freaking fast break when the door is wide open, trumpets are blowing, and hot sexy cheerleaders are directing them where to go.
I love the win, but I love good basektball too, and I’d like to see it.
I think the blazers will right themselves. They’re doing it faster than last year, but with all the hype and effort, I think we should have been further ahead of the curve.
That’s myself. As to the others calling for sergio to play when he hasn’t earned it, calling for Travis to go when he’s had a few bad games, and calling for Nate’s head. Those people come around every year. Some are trolls, some are being ironic, and some… well… they’re just impatient and generally they’re a SMALL but repetitive and loud minority.
We haven't done anything yet... but don't blink.

The one thing that makes me feel better is seeing the other teams ...
Do the Blazers have flaws. You bet, but guess what, so do almost every other team that we’ve played other than the L*kers, who unfortunately look pretty darn good right now.
The Jazz have flaws. The Rockets have flaws. The Magic definitely have flaws. The Spurs definitely have flaws. The Blazers can point to the bench, and give a couple of very good reasons as to why they’re still struggling to find their rhythm. Yet with two Starters in street clothes, the Blazers are playing incredibly well.
The NBA season is a marathon, and the Blazers have just passed the two mile mark. It’s a long way to go. San Antonio started the season without Ginobili, and they’re 1 and 4, and now Parker is out for a month. Washington started the season without Arenas, and they’re 0 and 5. Philadelphia picked up Elton Brand over the Summer, but yet they’re only 2 and 4. Dallas is 2 and 4. Golden State is 2 and 5.
For me, the second measuring stick of the season is going to come on Friday against New Orleans, particularly if they can get a win tomorrow against Miami.

What is 5 yard precision?
I Googled it and can’t find anything.
How does a team with a 4-3 record with losses on the road to 3 playoff teams right themselves? To me they are playing better than expected.

You know, Phil...
I don’t get it either.
I thought for sure that winning would cure everything… but alas, not even 4-3 against 6 top tier teams and a bottom-dweller is enough. Even if the Blazers were the best team in all the land there would be things they could do to improve. Even if they won championships some “fans” would be burnt that they don’t score 114 points per game.
I’m with you though, bud. I’m just thinking “STOP THE INSANITY!” and enjoy the ride… we’re shaping up to be great for years to come. And all things considered, with all the rookies, the youth, and the injuries… we look great!
Especially compared to recent years past, this is practically living like royalty right now!

I will stop complaining when David Stern schedules a Blazers/Lakers game in Barcelona
Pau, Rudy, Sergio (if he’s not canned/traded by then). That would be fun.

Interesting theards.
Last night was a big win, and a testament to the teams growth. Until this game I thought the blazers were very lucky to be 3-3, but they gutted it out last night.
Still, there are serious flaws in the style of play, that have some of us baffled. Portland has great potential, but I for one, subscribe to the class have empty view.

Fans are just fickle
Look how upset people got when KP didn’t trade half the roster during the draft. The expectation fans have for this team are based on potential and where this team should be in a year or two. They are applying future expectations to the second youngest team in the NBA with two injured starters and rookies playing significant minutes. In a nutshell, fans lose sight of the big picture once the season starts.

We have a saying in our house
“Some people would moan if their <insert 3 letter word starting with "a” for bottom here> were on fire."
I’m not sure what it means but it seems to fit here. Feel free to use it.

I don't get it
Errr, I think anyone would complain if their posterior was on fire…although my noises might go beyond ‘moaning’ into ‘screaming’ and ‘crying’ territory. Would you expect people to take a fiery buttal region stoically?

I learned it from my wife and she’s from New Zealand. I’ve made the same argument to her as you have but to no avail. Nevertheless, it always makes me laugh and so I run with it.

That is
The Kiwi’s are reknowned for being both stoic and having a devil may care sort of attitude when faced with adversity. They tend to make light of tough situations.

For me...
I have Blakey on my fantasy team (late round pick for 3s), so I much prefer he hits the aforementioned three than Sergio.
[Currently in our head-to-head league I’m matched up against my brother, and between us, our rosters have like 7 Blazers. It makes for odd rooting behavior.]
Obviously the real-life win is the most important part, though.
