Junk Drawer 10/09/08
Boy, what a difference a day makes. Yesterday there were six FanPosts about the Sacramento game and a FanShot or two. Today only one about the Golden State game and it is of the negative cookie cutter variety, that always pops up after a loss.
I want to link these two FanPosts that are a day apart because I think it is funny.
Everyone seems to be ignoring Trout's game... 10/07/08 & travis outlaw 10/08/09
Every time I watch Commando or Soul Man, I think, "I can't believe Rae Dawn Chong is Tommy Chong's daughter."
Also, when I think of Commando, I think of Bennett, and wonder if Dave dresses like him.
Also, isn't it cool that today's date is 10-9-8? It must be a sign from some sort of deity that the Blazers will be in the playoffs this year.

Oh, regarding Mr. Chong
He does commercials for Hawaii’s Natural High. I see his commercial on Comedy Central almost daily.
There was a new South Park and The Sarah Silverman Program on last night. South Park was naughty on multiple levels and Sarah Silverman was funny. I think I love her. I had to explain the ending of the show to my wife.

Rudy is easily on course for the first quintuple-double ever this season
15 points to go along with 7 assists, 6 steals, 5 rebounds, and 6 turnovers. Come on Rudy, with a little work and 48 minutes you can be the first to reach 10, 10, 10, 10, 10. Since he won’t block 10 shots, I’m counting turnovers as well ;-)
Just kidding, even Clyde and former Blazers great Larry Steele missed a quadruple-double narrowly in their careers. But Rudy’s stat line shows he could be amazing in all categories. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadruple-double

Anybody care to revise their predictions for Oden's numbers this year?
In 20 minutes per game so far, he’s averaging 14 points and 10 boards… in 20 minutes. Did I mention that was done in 20 minutes? There is no way to fake catching the ball in the post and dunking it, this isn’t some preseason fluke… that and the free throws it brings will happen all year long. Give him another 10-15 minutes and I think my early prediction of 17.2 and 13 (or was it 12?) is low, maybe way low.
This guy is going to be a monster, he’s so HUGE! Only a handful of centers in the league will be able to punk him, and that will only happen this year and maybe next year. Oden will own the paint!

He's only been able to stay on the floor 20 minutes...
…………………………….. did I mention that he’s only been able to be out there for 20 minutes?
Oden had 5 rebounds in the first game and 9 rebounds in the second game — average = 7.0
Prediction continues: 25 minutes, 12 ppg., 8 rebounds.
Unchanged, ’cept he might get to 14 ppg, I now acknowledge…

Hmm
Timbo predicted 25 mpg 12 pgg 8 rpg.
Oden has been limited to 20 mpg in preseason to protect his knee, and has 14 ppg and 7 rpg.
If Oden ups it to 25 mpg by the start of the season, and maintains the same production, a 20% increase in minutes and a pro rata increase in production will be 17 ppg and 9 rpg.
And some people think he might get better and increase his minutes as the year goes along.
Yeah, it will be tougher against Dwight Howard, but most teams don’t have Dwight Howard.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

I believe my prediction was something along the lines of
18pts
12 rebounds.
I was mocked. I was laughed at. I said Oden was the real thing…
I’m sticking with that prediction. I’d go higher except I don’t expect oden to play a lot right away and i expect him to tire at the end of the season. Those two things will skew the results.
Oh yeah, 2 blocks.

He could have these two games
but they are being careful with him coming back, and have said they were limiting him to 20.
My guess is, once the regular season starts, that limit goes up to 25, by sometime in December it goes to 30, and by the end of the year and the playoffs, the only limit will be fouls and conditioning, and he’ll be in condition to go 40+ if needed by then.
The advantage of the limit is you really don’t have to worry about fouls right now, so he can learn without getting stressed about that. It’s all good.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

you're crazy...

If Shaq can do it, so can Oden. Even now Shaq is doing 25+.
You want a center with a history of injuries? Yao.
You want to go more specific and go with a center whose recovered from microfracture? Amare.
Over 35 on average might be too high, but 25 is WAY too low.

I was
But the Celtics made no real effort to win the game while Philly played at least their second unit guys very long. Garnett played 19 minutes, and that was the most of any starter. In the end, Boston had a lineup of Leon Powe, Brian Scalabrine, Bill Walker, Tony Allen, Gabe Pruitt/Eddie House in a very close game. That’s about as bad as it gets. Why again is Scal an NBA player? He couldn’t get a rebound under control in three attempts and threw away the ball on the Celtics last chance.
And Darius played well, which makes me happy for him but sad for our monster cap.

It will still be a mini-monster cap
Enough to pick up all option years we want (Oden, LMA, Brandon, Sergio), unguaranteed contracts (Travis, Blake), extend whoever we like out of the Martell, Frye, Diogu trio, and pay a draft pick plus a pretty big-ticket free agent. The flexibility is uncanny. KP is completely free to spend anything from $20 million up to the cap and above next season. And that’s not even using the mid-level or bi-annual exception, which is what a lot of teams just have to work with.
