Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Here's the Google translation of Rudy's latest blog. Sounds like he is enjoying being here, and looking forward to Tuesday's game. But no mention of Friday's Fun Fest.

Nice find!

The photo on in the blog entry is of a driving / scooping / teardrop / finger-rollish high off the glass shot he made in the 2nd half of the FanFest that was just sick.

I’ve had this comparison of Rudy in mind versus a player from back in the day. At least the offensive game, the “skinnyness” factor, etc…curious to see what you think…

The Ice Man (George Gervin).

GG was 6’8" of course so a little taller…I dunno jus thinking out loud

Sweet Memories

George was about the same weight as Rudy, but a couple inches taller and looked even skinner as I recall. He had a deadly accurate jumper, but also had the length to take the ball over bigger guys inside. His moves were so smooth it was like watching a slow-mo replay. I don’t see a lot of Rudy there. I think Rudy is more of a hustle player, a better passer, and will get most of his jumpers from moving without the ball.

I haven’t been able to think of a perfect Rudy comparison yet. That’s not a bad thing. It means someone is going to have to guard a player that’s different than what they see every night. I think he can score and create offense for us.

MAster of the finger roll...

from the friggin foul line…

Yeah GG probably probably the most accurate comparison, but the sick scoop shot he made at the fan fest, plus the dunk over Howard, (GG was also known for his in the face dunks over the forwards and centers)…anyway I digress… I agree Rudy is certainly more hustle than GG was.

They are a lot alike.

Both smooth. And we all know that Rudy’s nick name in Spain was “The Smooth Criminal”.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

Oh yeah

GG also known for using the backboard with his jumpers, even from straight away top of the key. He was a different cat fo sho. Come to think of it Rudy did that in at least one of the Olympic games I think…I think I am just seeing some superficial similarities in their respective shots…

OK enough Ice Man nostalgia. Back to losing sleep over the rotation (in sympathy of Nate)…

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
