A quickie question

I suppose this should be a Fanshot rather than a Fanpost, but I do not have a digital version of the image to post of the photo I want to ask a question about.  On the first page of the Sports section of the Saturday Oregonian (page B1), there was a photo of Greg Oden dunking Friday night.  To Oden's right (left of the photo) was Sergio looking on.  To Oden's left (right side of the photo) is a guy with a body shape that does not look at all like an NBA player.  In fact, he looks at least seven months pregnant, and he has a caboose on him, as well.

The face is unfamiliar.  Is that Ike Diogu?  Really?  Is he that out of shape?

And I know what picture you're talking about

because at first I thought Sergio was staring at Oden’s butt.

that is ike..

yep, you guessed it. i was there and he looked overweight, slow, undersized, had no hops at all and was worst of all timid.

trade filler, mark my words.

Ike looked way bigger than he did at the "intro presser" after we traded for him.

He will indeed be trade filler.

Yep.

Ike will not be on our team for long. Think Juan Dixon, Freddy Jones, Dan Dickau, etc. He’ll be gone by next year, if not sooner (depending on Channing Frye).

Is this the pic?

Got it at the O’s OregonLive photo page.

That’s Ike, and it’s just his jersey billowing.
A lot of the FanFest Fotos show really billowy, loose jerseys.

What the monkey muffin--?!?

Dunno why that didn’t load.

Ahhh—the address isn’t the photo file, just the page.
Well, here it is.

And for more billowy-jerseys-at-fanfest pix . . .

Wow, that looks really bad

Ike is not all lean muscle, but he is not THAT overweight. It’s not like he is Robert Traylor or Eddy Curry or something.

Or Rudy for that matter

This moment was hilarious

Of course, Rudy was my favorite to watch, but Steven Hill was cracking me up too.

When asked about his thoughts during the Olympic games about playing against Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard, Rudy responded "My first thought was respect. My second thought was to kick their ass".

Man I love him.

Whoaaaa

Wait a minute – are we really confusing Ike’s billowy shirt for a ginormous gut? I had a pretty good view at Fan Fest (8 rows up from half court) and the only thing I noticed about Ike were his pipes – dude’s got guns.

That’s not to say I’d cry (or emote on any level) were he to leave.

Fo Sho

Ike is cut. you people are crazy. Obviously his jersey has caught some air in the picture. I think that Ike is going to be a good role player for the Blazers, especially if we make the playoffs. If Frye or LMA, God forbid on the latter, get injured Ike is going to see a ton of minutes, and I think that he would do just fine in any rotation that he could be on the floor with.

Y’alls some haters!

by everett on Oct 6, 2008 8:34 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

that pic is misleading

I think Ike is a little bit out of shape, but that photo has got to be his jersey and shorts waving around caught in that perfect moment to make his badonk-adonk look ginormous and his gut look like he’s expecting any day now. Seriously, no one could be packing what that pic reflects and play in the nba. He would just be cut immediately.

I don't know

Oliver Miller had quite the gut when he played.

by tingeyga on Oct 6, 2008 1:53 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The tone of his arms indicates that Mr. Diogu is in reasonably good shape.

To be stricken with the type of gut that seems to be depicted in the photo, Mr. Diogu would need to be flabby in his upper arms. He would also show some softness around his jaw line. He displays neither of these attributes in the fanfest photo.

So I do not view this picture as any kind of evidence that Ike is out of shape.

Ike may be out of shape, but this photo does nothing to settle the question one way or the other.

We cannot put up with this flagrant lack of accountability anymore.

I don't think he is out of shape.

I do think he is 6’8". I’m not bein a hater. I do admit that I have a bias against undersized 4’s, unless said undersized 4’s demonstrate some incredible desire to board and bang. A la Sir Charles. This is his 4th year in the NBA. He himself said at media day that he knows he has to prove himself this year. I don’t think were in the NCAA anymore Toto. Now go Ike! I am actually rootin for ya.

Was never high on him.

I was never high on Ike. Young and we are his third team. Giving up Jarrett Jack to get him was dumb, and I think Indiana will make us regret the trade. I liked JJ. Thought he was headed in the right direction, and we gave up on him too early. G State’s next selection that year ( when Ike was drafted ) didn’t turn out so bad though.
