I woke up feeling like a Cubs fan on Wednesday, that was a major blow. But as the days tick off, we get relative good news about Oden, and I read this article by Quick about Roy & LMA’s budding friendship, the excitement is brewing again. The Rose Garden is about to be rockin, and even though we’ve been taken down a notch, the night we’ve been waiting for is finally here!
What about you? Are you gettin’ fired up? Earth Wind and Fire is doing the freakin introductions! What the heck we have in store with that, I have no idea….Will you be adorned in red? Or Blazer paint for halloween? Or perhaps a good wig?
I’ll be working, but certainly feeling all of you’re energy. Will you be able to bring the same energy you had before Oden was out? I think this still will be a riviting game, not an easy one, but one the crowd can put over the top. I think Roy and Aldridge will be happy to be in the Garden and put on display the growth they’ve gone through this summer. LMA will have his hands full with Timmay (not a BEdger) but there is no Ginoboli, and we’ve got Rudy!
I’m just fired up to bring the official season back to the Garden with or without Greg. He’ll be good soon, we just have to practice patience. Treat you’re patience like KP would answer media questions, and meanwhile give the guys we’ve got out there all the positive support you’ve got. We have a young core we only could have dreamed of 3 years ago, so let’s just enjoy it. Keep it in perspective. Getting ahead of ourselves may only lead to disappointment. One night at a time, and tonight should be a good time to start making the garden the toughest place to play.

I know me and you are both Martell fans, so I am happy we re-signed him. This way I know either he’ll be a Blazer for cheap, or packaged up in a deal for a final-esque piece.
It’s a win-win for both the Blazers and Martell. No contract worries and that means Martell won’t have to press once he comes back from injury, and Portland didn’t risk Martell breaking out and pricing himself out of our immediate plans. And if he stays a role player, making less than the MLE is great for a good one like him.
I gotta move the yacht into position 2,000 leagues off the coast of Belize tonight, where PA has arranged for a satellite to orbit the airspace above to beam us the homer opener.

I’m watching Boston – Chicago right now on ESPN over it, and at the same time I could be watching two other games.
The interface is not quite as comfortable as the US version which features integrated boxscores and other stuff, but still an awesome offering and improvement over any streaming site.

Tyrus Thomas is too athletic for his own good. No fundamentals. If T Thomas had D West’s J, I’d totally agree with you. The Celtics are not guarding Thomas and he’s 1/15. That is not hyperbole. That is not an exaggeration. The Celtics ARE NOT GUARDING HIM. They stand in the lane and wait for him to “shoot.”

I really don’t know. D Rose is a push and dish player. When he runs the break, sure, he’ll be able to oop it to Thomas with ease. But in the half court he needs players who can step back and hit a J from time to time.
If Thomas is going to operate like Chandler does in NO, then he really needs to work on setting screens. This is something that gets missed sometimes on Chandler: his screens are so airtight they should call him tupperware.
Thomas’ screens are like his J: they hurt me when I have to watch them.

It's a big deal in this town
the foreign community really took hold of a little thing they had going, and now it is considered the top Halloween spot in Japan with 60,000 people in it. They still don’t have it right. It was on the 25th. They closed main street to traffic, everyone dressed up, there were vendors and the kids bought tickets to go trick or treating from stores. The fun part was I got to help with the haunted house and scare the crap out of little Japanese kids.

I actually like the Blazers team. I respect the way you guys overhauled your team so quickly. I am speaking of talent and attitude as well. I suppose if I was on the other side of the 2000 WCF I would feel differently, but who knows. I think you guys have a great young team and I think you will be our main rivals in the next few years, salary cap notwithstanding. Also I respect the fact that your fans seem to be insightful and not overly obnoxious, unlike some teams fans. (I won’t say who, but think they rhyme with funs, feltics, and furs.
Anyway beat those furs tonight……….

I’m not superstitious. I’m not trying to prevent a Lakers title by announcing it. I do find it adorable that you include the Rockets as serious contenders in the west. If I were a Rockets fan I would be blushing.
NO/LAL is going to be an epic WCF. I can’t wait to root against both of the teams. Lakers come out on top, though.

he’s not great, but he will adjust to Dallas and be a solid contributor

They ran much faster against Houston than they looked last season
Kidd can’t shoot and defend quick guards anymore (if he ever could), but he still runs the court throwing pinpoint passes as good as anyone in the league.

Don’t know. Maybe the number of complaints that reached Dave while at work? There was quite a long discussion going on in the “Is Oden injury prone” fanpost in which he was pessimistic and not very concise but at least was sticking to basketball arguments. I never flagged him, but I wasn’t around that long in the last days. That thread is gone now though. And I read a comment where he complained about Thorpe being allowed to declare Oden a bust while he was getting flamed for it.

I work in a concrete bunker whose net pipe is protected by Websense. So my options are limited. Smoebody gave a link during the last preseason game from a radio station in Warrenton that was carrying the wheels feed that ended up working for me. I guess it’s just gamecast and Bedgers play-by-plays again. Nothing against all of you, but QQ for me.

I would rather see Batum as the starter
I thinking Batum has a lot of the same qualities as Scottie Pippen coming into the league. He has the IQ and
long arms. He also has a similar offensive game as Scottie. Pippen was so raw and Jordan took him under his wing and taught him so much. I think Roy will help Batum turn into a fantastic NBA player.

Man it feels AWESOME to beat the spurs! They played great (what did they make a million 3’s?) and we still won! In a lot of ways i hate the spurs more than I hate the L*kers, mostly because we beat the LALA’s every once in a while, espeacially at home. We never beat the spurs so this feels great!

What a huge victory
I would have been reasonably happy with the effort regardless of the result of that last shot, but what a huge difference confidence wise between a friendly bounce and an unfriendly bounce.
This wasn’t a perfect effort by any means— we continue to get torched by small quick PGs— I was getting close to calling for Bayless to be in the game guarding Parker, but we got the win despite the Spurs shooting the lights out from 3 (who is this Roger Mason Jr guy).
Roy and Aldridge are back.
Rudy’s shot was off but you live with his shaky shot selection due to his awesome energy and hustle
Frye showed up
What can you say about Batum!!! This guy is like Travis right now (but with better D) and he’s 19!!!
I thought a huge play in the game was Udoka’s 3 after Frye dunked but fell… that robbed us of our momentum (we were up 12) and helped them get back into it, though they probobly would have came back anyway.
In summary, this was not a perfect effort but it was quite good and its huge that that shot rolled off at the end. If we continue to play .500 ball through the brutal first 24 games (16 on the road), we’ll be in good shape for a late playoff run.
Rumors of the Blazers demise were greatly exaggerated.

Roy and LMA didn't disappoint this time. Also, good assists and steals to turnovers ratio.
At the half I thought Rudy would get a double double, but he disappeared in the third to the point that Nate took him out to have Blake or Nic defend. And of course we have seen a glimpse of what Nic quickly could become. He is a keeper even when Webster is back in action.

if bayless can develop
i can see him as a our starting point guard, with blake or rodriguez as backup, i see him as a better defender than either of them. plus hes stronger, making it harder for PGs like billups to try and post up.
having said that bayless is a year or two away from being ready, and im really enjoying watching LMA and broy at the moment!
Hopefully this erases all the doubt
that you guys had. This Portland team is still terrific with or without Greg Oden.

I thought his hustle did show in the boxscore- he got 8 important rebounds in the first half. If his shot was falling, this would have been a great game for him. He’ll shoot better than this more often than not.

eg. i would rather go with outlaw against a suspect defender, and have batum against a better offensive player
also have rudy come in for instant offensive and hustle plays, perhaps give blake less minutes against quicker PGs and give bayless some minutes there, nates a good coach but his decisions are iffy at times.
we could have EASILY lost that game....lol
But i’ll take it. i posted above, why can’t we replicate spurs offense…so smooth, reliable, consistent. we def. have the players to do it..

since they are the only major pro sports in oregon, the fans are great and the players are very likeable
what really blew my mind
was the amount of fan interaction, im in australia but i caught most of the action on a stream, crowd was really into it and let it be known when there was bad calls, or great plays from the blazers
What a win, what a relief
I’m of two minds on this game tonight…..
The MAIN part of me is elated for the team, incredibly impressed by Batum, re-inspired by Roy and Aldridge, pleased with Outlaw’s hustle (if not shot selection), happy we have Joel to “back up” Oden and can live with Blake and Rudy’s relatively off nights….it was a win that this team really needed for their home opener, and one that should propel them into future wins with confidence…..
At the same time, we outplayed the Spurs all night, but they were missing Oberto and Ginobili. I know we are missing Oden and Martell……but it still seems like if we were EVER going to beat the Spurs, it was this night….and we barely did it, because Finley missed the game winner (that rattled around……and out).
So — a win is a win and I’m so happy we got it. I will say that they looked a lot more comfortable and in rhythm tonight than down in LA (obviously). How much of that is playing at home — how much is playing their second game — and how much is reverting back to a rhythm from last year’s rotation, without trying to integrate Greg (who they haven’t really learned how to play with yet)????

We can’t let this win mean any more than we let the first game deflate and demoralize us — just need to take it a game at a time, enjoy their progress, and believe in the talent, depth, and skill that these guys bring.

……………………………… I had it figured as a 6 point spread, and it SHOULD have been more like 10, given the way SA ran out of gas in the 3rd Q. I will say they had a couple things going for them: Portland had no answer whatsoever for Tony Parker (he was on the bench) and SA was CRAZY hot from behind the arc…
Still, they were undermanned and on the road (and it’s early season to boot for the notorious late starting Spurs), and Portland just barely escaped…

When the Spurs are hitting their 3s its tough to double on Duncan. Felt like last year all over again, when we had a large lead in the 4th and the Spurs 3-bombed their way back to a victory. The maturity of today’s Blazers, their cohesiveness, and their mettle were great. Nate did really well, and deserves a lot of kudos. Batum was out of this world. Holy smokes! Great game to watch. Thanks, Blazers.
If Oden can play Duncan straight up, it completely changes how we match up and beating the Spurs becomes a lot easier. Manu’s return to the Spurs is a different story, but I still like our chances if we truly have an answer for Duncan.
need an answer for Parker
I actually though we did decent against Duncan tonight. He had 10 boards and 27 points, but remember somewhere around 8-10 of those points were unopposed dunks/layins off of Parker drives to the hoop. If we can cut down on that uncontested penetration, Duncan’s line would have been more like 20 and 10, which I think would equal a victory against the Spurs more often than not.
Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.
Rudy on Ginobli
If the G man and Rudy are on the floor then we might get a great “off the USA map” match up in the near future. Lets hope that happens, not only for the action but also the ESPN coverage. I think they are very similar in a lotta ways, we just haven’t seen Rudy fully develop.

like bayless in a year or two? bayless is also pretty strong and athletic, i cant call blake or rodriguez strong or athletic even though i really like their games

Loved the hustle overall especially from the 2nd unit. Big game from Roy. Batum was a game changer. Aldridge played well until he went soft in the 4th quarter. Duncan and Parker are amazing. The Spurs have the slowest, least athletic, and least talented 4-15 players in the NBA. More thoughts later, but a win is better than a loss.

Batum is a finisher, and I feel better with him on the break than anyone on the team at this point…some serious upside to this kid! Both offensively and defensively. It’s like he and Bayless changed places after summer league.
not sure what nate has planned
for the suns, im expecting to see the 3 guard/small lineup a bit, considering that shaq will play 20-25 mins and stoudamire will play C after that, meaning we can play frye/LMA at center and have smaller quick players to defend the suns perimeter game.
