"I had a dream", says Nate
I'm going to START Outlaw. He has worked so hard to get to this point.
He deserves to START the season on the first team. And........
Look at his result. Travis led the team with 18 points in 35:28 minutes.
Upon hearing Nate's proclamation that Outlaw was starting,
Blue9 commented...
Booooo. Good bye ball movement. Hello off-balance, contested jump shots. If Outlaw doesn’t move the ball quickly and on target Nate better yank him.
I would like to see Outlaw turn into a nasty "enforcer" if he’s going to be with the starters. Get in peoples faces, set nasty picks (hell, even drop a shoulder or stick out an elbow), start some fights. Then he might be a player I could like – but enough of his ball-hogging, shot-jacking, no defense-playing game. It doesn’t fit with Roy/LMA/Oden.
He could score 20 points and I still think it’s bad for him to be playing with the starters because he reduces the touches of players that are MUCH better than he is. He had better not take more shots than Oden!
With no synergism..... the team results speak for themselves.

Its' true
Outlaw deserved the start, just in virtue of him being a veteran. It was weird, though, that Nate flip flopped at the last minute. That didn’t do much for team confidence. In the end I don’t think it mattered. We were gonna get creamed no matter who started at SF. Truth is, I would have liked to see Nic get the start. But that’s just because I like Nic.

What's your point?
Outlaw may have been our leading scorer, but I didn’t see anything that made me think, “wow, we need to keep him in the starting lineup.” He still threw up horrible jumpers and wasn’t in sync with the offense. Of course, the offense wasn’t in sync at all, but it’s not like this is the first time we’ve seen Outlaw fall in love with his buttery jumper.

My point is
Outlaw doesn’t fit with Roy/LMA/Oden.
They play as a TEAM!
Outlaw….. well he doesn’t have a team mentality or the BBIQ needed for TEAM ball.

Good, I'm glad that was your point.
You’re right, and there’s not a whole lot more to say. Though, I would add that replacing Batum last minute really through the starters off. Nate showed that there WAS something to be nervous about. I think if he were much more casual about Nic starting, it would’ve let the team sqeak by with the confidence they had before the game.
I’m not committed to that idea, but when I heard Outlaw was starting, my stomach sank a little. Love Outlaw the person, and he played well last night (for his style), but, man, he just does not play well with the starters. It is what it is. I bet Nic starts Friday.

When you practice as a group for two weeks
and then throw someone in that is “ME” oriented….
timing, confidence, knowledge of plays, defensive coverage, and execution all suffers.

It's interesting that
the lineup that Nate plans to use to finish games (assuming the score is close) includes Trout playing with…Rudy/Roy/LMA/Oden
A lineup that doesn’t “work” when starting shouldn’t “work” with closing either…unless it does?
