I'll be the first to ask: Durant over Oden
So my sister (twiggs) got all bent out of shape tonight because I was pissed. I was pissed that Greg freaking Oden couldn't make it through his first NBA game without being injured. God darn it I'm pissed about this. Anyway, I told her it was going to happen. The GO vs KD talk would be re stoked immediately. So, no funny stuff. Simply put. Knowing what we know know about GO, would you re do the draft? Keep in mind, I'm not sayin Oden was a mistake. But not making it through his first NBA game, after missing his first entire NBA season, is FREAKING SCARY. And if you don't agree, you're being a homer plain and simple. Given their plus sides, I take Oden any day of the week. Given Oden's fragileity (word?), I'm starting to wonder...

Oden will be fine.
It’s a sprain and he will be good to go in a max of a few weeks. So much pressure such incredible nerves and bynum pulling him down onto his foot. It’s fine and no sense worrying about it until tomorrow. Night all.

Only one game, but he's on thin ice with fans
I don’t know how many more minor/major injuries we can stomach until it breaches our threshold of tolerance.

I think you always draft the center, but it's probably the wrong call again for the Blazers...

Leave it alone
We picked Oden. Oden is a Blazer. Durant is not. We made the logical pick, the pick that every other GM would’ve made.
Blake/Roy/Durant/Zach/LMA: No thanks.
And for heaven’s sake, don’t lay this all on a 20 year old kid that has done nothing but work his butt off for his team. He didn’t earn or deserve this.

Hey
its a real question. I would pick Oden still but to ask it is nothing wrong with it. If the there questions like this there is a reason. And if we cant reason anymore than we are just homers. There is always pressure and to not have any pressure is to be perfect and suck so much that nobody cares.

Well
Imagine CP3, who we could’ve drafted, at the point tonight. Or Kevin Garnett at the four, in a trade for the #1. How about both? Imagine if I sold my stocks in September. Imagine if the country had chosen different leaders. It goes on and on.
Let’s spare ourselves the anguish of comparing what might’ve been. We have enough issues of the future to hash through. Rotations, defensive philosophy, roles, etc.

i too see no point in going back to an alternate reality
to what end? it’s not interesting. we have the reality to deal with that is the one here now. it’s like getting way too interested in the socalled ‘butterfly effect.’

So I can't be a homer, but I don't like Durant
Will most people agree with me that Horford would be better on this team than Durant anyway? And Oden will prevail. Three offensive boards in 12 minutes is a good sign.

Really?
I love Greg Oden. I love him to death. I would have him to be the Godfather of my children if I could, but I would still take Durant.
It wasn’t a mistake, and Greg was the best player at the time, but nowing what I know now it jsut doesn’t make sense to pick Greg. At the very least if you had known the future you probably could have trade the first pick to Atlanta for Al Horford and Josh Smith or something.
I just hate it that this teams hopes and dreams rest on the health of one mans legs.

By Oden's Beard people!!!
This kind of crap is what will make me stop coming to this sight. You wonder why the kid feels so much presure. He twisted his ankle. Bad if you look at the picture of it happening. He played one year of college, sat out a year and that sucked for us Blazer fans having lived through Walton, Bowie and Sabonis injuries so we feel cursed, but it’s his first NBA game. Ever. It might just be better if he comes of the bench for awhile. He should have in the first place but because of the first pick hype everyone felt he had to start. The guy is a monster. He isn’t NBA ready yet healthy or not but he will be someday. And I would rather have Webster than Durant. Webster is going to be better than Durant. Book it.

I still think Oden can validate the choice
I just don’t think Durant will be all that great and I don’t think he would have been a good fit on the Blazers.. it’d be like having.. Travis Outlaw..

can we all just relax??
YES, it sucks Oden got hurt tonight. YES, Kevin Durant is going to be a VERY GOOD player for a long time. I, along with a lot of others, truly believe he was the right choice at the time, and I’m sure not changing my mind now. If the injuries for him continue into his mid-20’s, then i might start worrying. I just get sick and tired of reactionary rhetoric when we don’t even know how long he’ll be out. My guess is a max of two or three weeks. Lets not kid ourselves here, we weren’t going to win it all this year anyways, so lets just relax and enjoy the ride instead of dwelling on what is most likely at worst a 4-6 week injury
by lefty6283 on Oct 29, 2008 1:04 AM PDT 0 recs
Sorry, but this is a pathetic post
In a couple years—and maybe a lot sooner—you’ll be embarrassed that you posted stuff like this. Come on: you could clearly see in the replay that GO’s foot came down on an opponent’s. That generally causes an injury, now doesn’t it? Yet GO gamely tried to play through it. (Several of his worst sequences came AFTER the injury, you may have noticed.)
There’s nothing wrong with Greg Oden that a little NBA experience—and yes, a few less bad breaks—won’t cure. Bigs tend to take longer to develop than little guys, and GO will be no exception. He’ll still end up being a much more valuable piece to the championship puzzle than a chucker like Durant would have been. Gifted 7-footers are far more rare than gifted wings. Oden is EXACTLY what this team needed going forward.
BTW, Did you happen to pay attention to BYNUM’S play tonight? He was hardly breathtaking, and this supposed up & coming center is in his fourth season now, I believe. Take a breath, please. I suspect Oden will develop MUCH quicker if fans and the media will lighten up and show a little patience.

Now Roy is another matter
Did you see him tonight? Clearly this guy can’t play. KP: trade him for Durant, please!

No, no no...
Come on! If you are a Blazer fan now is not the time to revisit Oden vs. Durant or fuel the flames of insecurity with unfounded doubt. Alright, sure, don’t we all wish Oden had played 36 minutes and had a dominating double double performance? Sure. But just like Joel, Brandon, LMA or anyone doesn’t Oden get more than 1 game grace period before we start covering him with dirt? He got hurt, in the first game. That’s a huge bummer but it could of happened to anyone. Seasons define players not single quarters of single games. I’m bummed at the moment but Oden get’s my support and I’m not going to go back now. Yes, I will be a homer! I hate to say it but before Oden hurt his foot in the very limited time I saw some good things. Now we all hold our breath and hope for the best because I think that’s the best thing we all can do.

The china doll syndrome
VERY frustrating sitting on pins and needles waiting for the next break. At least it does not take long with him. When he comes back (2 weeks to 6 months who knows) shoud get a pool going on how many games he plays before going down again. My guess he will have a good run 6 games in a row before the next break. GOOD TIMES!!!!!!

I voted for oden, but it's no secret that I was pro durant pre draft day.
I only voted becuase I still think he’ll come around and to not vote for oden is writting him off., he didn’t “whelm” us but, he will.
but if I could go back before the draft I’d have take durant, (but we’d probably still have z bo too)

This is a joke
Our fanbase is way too fragile.
Does it suck? Of course it sucks. Last night was so disheartening, but it’s only one game. Oden will recover and be back soon. The world is not ending. Oden isn’t having his foot amputated (I hope).

Durant.
But not because of any of the injuries to Oden or because of last night. I was in the Durant camp to begin with and I haven’t been convinced yet that Oden is the better player. Of course, I will pay attention the next couple years and quite happily admit I was wrong if/when GO lives up to some of his potential

Thanks brother
But I am a HOMER, plain and simple!!!!

There were many signs before the draft
that Oden was not a healthy physical specimen. That was the only reason I was so adamant about not drafting him. KP ignored those signs.
After picking him I had no choice but to strongly hope that I was wrong. But I’m afraid now that II wasn’t. The handwriting is on the wall.

then don't comment on it
Why do you hate it? It’s a legitimate question. I’m tired of all the crap comments like this and other ones saying this is a stupid question, or I’m not a real fan for posting this, or whatver else. I’m so sure. It’s not like I’m saying Oden’s a bust and we should have drafted Durant, I’m simply saying this is going to come up a lot now, especially if he’s out for several weeks.

It is a totally legitimate question
And one of the reasons I get pissed off mad about the question. Someone just wrote a post about how his stupid friend is an athletic trainer and says Oden can be out for another year (totally not the case, but still). I fumed when I read the post. We are all fans, we are all mad about last night, and I think why everyone is reacting is because we already have to hear it from the media, we don’t want fans saying it too.
Maybe? Maybe not? Well regardless, I am still a homer because HE WILL BE FINE (please god? make him ok!).

To early to say
come back in two more years. Nothing has really changed yet except that a year has passed without oden playing.
If you’re worried about the minor injuries, ask the ambassadors to other teams what those other teams are going through.
That said, Greg may be prone to injuries because he’s playing at a level that his body isn’t ready for. I think we may need to ease him into it.
We haven't done anything yet... but don't blink.
