Cancel your Comcast and Direct TV
I can not believe we are still without a dish network deal. I don't care who is responsible. I am sick of seeing full page comcast ads in the paper telling us to call cable operators and sattelite providers to do their bidding for them. The only power we have is to cancel our cable if it is a comcast local that doesn't carry the blazers or your Direct TV. Tell the family you are doing it to save money. When you call comcast or Direct TV tell them you are doing it because THEY ARE HOLDING OUR BLAZERS HOSTAGE. If they start losing subscribers they may quit focusing on squeezing another nickel out of each other and get a deal done. It would also be helpful to email the OREGON PUBLIC UTILITES COMMISSION AT puc.commission@state.or.us to make cable companies provide channels individually and not bend us over with their crappy packages. This has been talked about before and when the cable companies heard about it they were scared to death. They realized people wouldn't buy about 90% of the channels in their packages. When lawmakers start talking about regulating these monopolies they get real concerned about customer service all of the sudden.

It could work
but people would have to give up the rest of their TV. I think it’s great that you are trying, and I wish you the best of luck. I don’t live in the area, or I would do it. Fight the power!

Has anyone tried emailing the NBA?
Just curious? I know I email Comcast, DirecTV and the Blazers weekly, sometimes twice a week, but I’ve never emailed the NBA.

I did regarding online broadcasts without the need for a cable subscription
I came up to some woman who is the director of international and online distribution or something. But even she couldn’t say when they would have a solution in place.

sorry
I have Comcast, and there’s no way I cancel. It sucks that people that live outside of Comcast service areas can’t see the games. It sucks big time. But for people in Portland and areas that have Comcast available, it’s your choice to make. I’ve always had Comcast, but would gladly switch to Dish or whatever if the shoe was on the other foot. The fact that I can see pretty much every Blazer game is just too awesome to get rid of, and too awesome to pass up on IF GIVEN THE CHOICE. Now, I understand hat not everyone has that choice due to where they live, so here’s to hoping something gets done. But your freaking nuts if you think any Blazer fan with Comcast would cancel their cable just to prove a point and try to get games available for people they don’t even know. Sorry!
I agree though:

I think many people are getting a raw deal with this whole thing...
but I ain’t cancelling my Comcast. I can’t.
A world without hundreds of channels of junk is a world I refuse to live in.
I really, really feel for you. But do you really want me to suffer, too? Would it actually make it better if subscribers did quit? Wouldn’t more people just not get to see our beloved team?

Sorry, I won't
I lived in Portland most my life up until 2003 or so, and I remember that there were very few games I could watch on TV due to a Portland area blackout. I would either listen to the radio, or go to the game.
I moved to Bend, and pretty much the same situation.
Last year I moved to Eugene, and all of a sudden, I can watch every game on TV because I have Comcast.
Comcast allows me to watch games I never would have been able to in the past, and for that I am thankful. Does this make me selfish? Probably, but I do not think any more so then the person asking me to give up watching Blazer games just so they can have a chance of watching them as well.

I have both
I “need” DirecTV for NFL Sunday ticket
And I “need” Comcast for the Blazer channel (as well as high-speed internet)
You telling me to “cancel” is about as sensitive as me telling you
“If you don’t have Comcast at your domecile…move”
(but I would never make that demand in seriousness…)

Both services
So, do you have to have a digital cable box for the comcast?

no, just the cable modem
I use a splitter for the TV coax

Cable modem for tv?
Hmm…….if they don’t get a deal done withing the month, I’m ordering Comcast to go with my DTV. Unless the NBA really does make a push towards streaming games in local markets.
I was hoping to avoid having another cable box to add to the mix. Not sure how using a modem works. I have Verizon FIOS internet now. Oh yeah, CSNNW is on Fios, maybe I’ll look into that and avoid giving my money directly to comcast.

the cable modem is for the internet
not for the TV channels
I have a 10 year old Sony dish and receiver for DirecTV. I also have a Comcast feed (coax) coming into my house that’s been installed for 10+ years. I took the two coax into a splitter so I can choose between the two services. It’s low-tech, but it works for us.
If you need HD, you may need to spend some money on a high-def splitter

I hate to be a Rebelrouser
But I am getting my Comcast installed this morning. I have Dish but if they wouldn’t carry the channel & I have the chance to see the games in HD I gotta do it.
Plus you should be able to watch the game if you don’t have Comcast on

all you need tonight is TNT
it’s Friday when you’ll need Comcast channel 37 (I think, unless it’s on channel 8)

only offers audio for the game. Is there another place online that one can watch the game?

I should have said consider cancelling cable if your local cable outlet doesn’t provide blazer games. Got myself a little worked up with the season starting tonight. I emailed the Oregon PUC after I posted this. Can’t hurt.

Switch to FIOS!
If you have the opportunity Verizon FIOS has blazing fast internet and high quality tv service which includes CSN for the blazers. I will not give my money to either Comcast or the Satellite companies, so FIOS is a good alternative

Fios
I have Fios internet/phone out in Gresham at our house. Fios TV isn’t available out here though, something to do with Gresham City government having some Comcast connections and wanting to block it.
I hear Fios TV provides uncompressed HD signals, or at least ‘less compressed’ signals compared to satellite or cable.
For the record, Fios internet is the fastest I’ve ever had..and I’m only on the 10Mbps tier.

I'm in Gresham
East side. Thanks for the tip, I have the FiOS internet also, and was just looking at the tv stuff.
If Verizon were smart, they’d find a way to sell the channel as an individual product, online, to anybody who wants to stream it.

Keeping DirecTV
Here’s my thing:
I am upset that CSNW isn’t carried on my heavenly HD-equipped DirecTV, but I’m not wasting my energy foaming at the mouth over it. Why? I grew up without cable/satellite, listening to most of the games on the radio, unless it was carried by local Portland TV. I’m cool with that, if necessary. Plus, there are ways to stream the games online as well if necessary (your mileage may vary).
I am in no way canceling my beloved DirecTV. I was re-acquainted with Comcast over the summer as our temporary home (read: the inlaws) had it..and it was horrible! Ugly user interface, ads harassing me from the channel guide, me have to pay extra for channels I get included in my lower cost DirecTV package. Bad customer service. The list goes on and on.
It might be nice to have CSNW on DirecTV, but there are other outlets for me to enjoy the games this season, and with so many more games being carried on national TV (TNT, ESPN) or KGW this year, I’m not sweatin’ it. In fact, I feel lucky that I’ll be able to see more games this year as opposed to last.
One last thing about CSNW, over the summer it was ok…replayed some classic Blazer games, and enjoyed watching Summer League, but if it weren’t for Blazer games..i wouldn’t watch it if I had it.
