No voting for me

I don’t want to add to the homerism that will clearly be well represented already, but I also refuse to vote for LA.

by shralpster on Oct 27, 2008 1:53 PM PDT reply actions

My take exactly

I’d be VERY surprised if the guys win this one—and the Spurs game ain’t looking much better. But I would NEVER “vote for” a Lakers’ victory. And there’s always the hope of an overconfident Tinseltown squad.

Vegas has the Fakers by 7 or something like that

but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Blazers jump out to a sneaky win. I think veteran teams sometimes fall into the San Antonio mindset of turning it on in January.
The Blazers are ready now. They’ve been ready. They took the heads off the Kings on pre-season opener, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them do the same to the Fakers.

Turning it on in January

would certainly describe last year’s Lakers. Good point.

by Kaboomm on Oct 27, 2008 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Also

The Lakers will be reinserting Bynum into the line up, and they may struggle in some of the same areas as the Blazers in figuring out how to play together.

Blazers in a close win

is how I voted. Beating the defending WC champs on their court on opening night, however, is a tall order.

If I'm gonna win that jersey, it's Portland by 1.

Here's Hollinger's prediction in his chat:
Mel (Pittsfield, MA): Might as well pick the opening games?

SportsNation John Hollinger: What the heck. Bulls beat Milwaukee by 11 as Skiles looks longingly at opposite bench; Celtics hold off Cavs by five despite 43 from LeBron; and Lakers emerge with a ragged seven-point win over Portland when Jordan Farmar takes over early in the fourth quarter.

Word.

by joelor on Oct 27, 2008 2:09 PM PDT up reply actions

He and Stein also picked Greg for ROY

And Hollinger said Greg will be better than Bynum due to his defense. Can’t say he is a Lakers homer.

Blazers by 7 !

It’s going to be an exciting game. Both teams will have their runs, but ultimately… Oden will posterize Bynum, and the Spanish duo will have the words “Sergio to Rudy” haunting the L*kers all season long…

the wisdom of peasants is demonstrated in their ability to pretend that they are fools.

sorry, BEdgers...

L@kers by 9.

It makes me sick, but it’ll happen.

Blazers by one

Roy scores and Oden blocks Kobe.

by Falcao on Oct 27, 2008 2:50 PM PDT reply actions

Unfortunately

The L’s match up really well to the Blazers’ strengths. (Except maybe the bench favors the Blazers.) I hate myself but wound up picking the L’s by 5 to 9 in this case.

I voted blazers by 10

but that’s just because I had to make up for my score prediction on what will be a perfect Jersey score

by 50backflips on Oct 27, 2008 3:26 PM PDT reply actions

what if ...

with 1 second to go, score tied, Oden about to stuff Bynums tonsils, and all the Trail Blazers get raptured?

Oden breaks 5 backboards

The Staples Center runs out of backup backboards. Game called.

The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.

I still voted Blazers by five
Los Angeles has won three straight home games over Portland and 12 of the last 14 meetings at Staples Center.

I want to drink the Kool-Aid

But alas, we don’t play so well in the Staples Center historically, and two starting rookies spells D-O-O-M as far as I can tell.

I picked the purple and urine by 5-9.

I’m a sad panda now. :(

Expect the worst, hope/pray for the best...

…i’m not religious, but i would pray to some sort of higher power for the Blazers to win this one.

Luckers by 5-9 :-(
I predict 3 blazers will be in foul trouble and 1 will foul out. The second unit may mismatch well with the lakers D, but has defensive problems of it’s own.

But I hope that I’m wrong and then I’ll be pleasantly suprised, if i’m right, not as let down?

by appel82 on Oct 27, 2008 5:04 PM PDT reply actions

This is the perfect stage for this team to state its case

Rudy just played the olympic gold medal game..I think he’ll be fine in this setting..we have a very serious group here with alot to prove . . . they will either play 10 ft over their heads and cause the L*krs to catch up, or their early jitters will seal their fate..but I don’t expect too much of that …this is a focused bunch .. will some rookie mistake cost us? probably — but the adrenaline rush might just lift us over the top..My vision is Kobe missing the game winner with the clock running out :-)

Oden will do a superman dunk

on bynum and bynum will cry and sit on bench

"All our holes," says shooting guard Brandon Roy, a surprise All-Star last year in his second season, "are holes that Greg is going to plug."

by bowdown on Oct 27, 2008 6:41 PM PDT reply actions

Objective opinion

Blazers win by forfeit when Phil Jackson sends Sasha V, with a hand written note of surrender, through the tunnels of Staples to Nate.

Unwilling to accept this cowardice, Nate tells Nic, Rudy and Jerryd that they have to “earn their stripes” and sends them back to the L*kers locker room, where they issue a vicious taunting, before spray painting the entire room red, black and white while rapping the words to “bust a bucket”.

Dr Buss folds the franchise in embarrassment.

The Blazers don't forget.

I have a feeling that the Blazers will not be forgetting what happened in their last game against the L*kers (other than the 112-103 victory)

is it just me or do these teams seem destined to meet up in the playoffs only to have the best 7 game series sense the lakers vs. spurs with fisher hitting that shot then duncan shot series.

9:30 Start Time

Is that true? I hate saying this while posting at 1AM, but that’s preeetty late for East-Coasters. What’s the point of putting it on National Television if the game starts past midnight?

I give the Blazers roughly a 30-35% chance at a win

We’re the clear underdogs, but certainly with an opportunity to get this W.

I'll Hate Myself in the Morning.

I think that the game will be lost by about 3-4 points due to a bad call and/or no call late in the game. I voted that way but don’t like it.
