I linked this story quite a while back
and expressed concern about Batum’s “heart ailment” that he supposedly had/has.
Its a moving story though.

It was a story before the draft. And one reason why he dropped out of the lottery.

No big deal, it’s a good backstory that’s worth repeating in order to appreciate so much more what Nic is doing and how important playing basketball is for him. And we can be sure the Blazers’ doctors checked his heart condition extra carefully.

Thanks for
putting it back in.

This back story makes more sense about the mom thing
I was really beginning to wonder what was up. I know he’s 19, but he seemed to make a point about his mom coming over and so on. The fact he became head of household explains a lot.

Man oh man.
I must have missed the original post on this, but Dead of a heartattack at the freethrow line? You couldn’t make that up.
Good god.

One of the things I found interesting
was the link at the bottom of the page. It’s to an article speculating that the Bulls need a low post player and the Knicks are trying to rid themselves of Zach Randolph. That exact move was talked about for months and months at this site by yours truly. I’ll be interested and half-chagrinned if it goes off.

hmmm
That actually may not be a bad move… except that Zach is a black hole of course. Gosh, if the bulls had drafted Aldridge, they’d at least have a VERY good power forward…oh, i guess they wanted that post player… which… they still don’t have.
I’m a bit bitter towards Chicago. I went onto their site once and they were rather disparaging towards Aldridge and they also tried to argue the guy they got was better for them. if you’re picking that high, it doesn’t matter if they’re a better fit; you get the best pick and you do something with that. I mean, it’s like us arguing that Webster was a better pick than chris paul for us… oh… wait… crud. I think I did that.

Key quote in article:
“The better the players are out there the better he gets,” General Manager Kevin Pritchard explained. "He doesn’t need the ball. He can go out there and defend. He’s knocking down open shots and we’re going to need that this year.
“He’s not afraid. We like that about him.”
Last game featured the second string that he hasn’t practiced with.
Watch for improvement in Tuesday’s game.
