Mike Barrett Appreciation Day
For those of you who don't read Mike Barrett's blog, here are some reasons why you might want to listen to some things that Mike has to say.
2007 Pre-Season
1) Mike was one of the first people to mention James Jones' play during the Summer, and talk about what a positive impact that James should be able to provide.
2) Mike talked about Joel's improved Free Throw shooting stroke, and talked about how Joel would shoot 70% from the line for the Season.
2008 Pre-Season
1) At the height of Jerryd Bayless mania, right after Jerryd's MVP performance during Summer League, Mike said, " ... Don't forget about Sergio ..." He talked about John Thompson going to work with Sergio over the Summer to improve his shooting stroke.
2) All throughout the Summer, Mike has mentioned the play of Nicolas Batum. He didn't make any kind of bold predictions, but just kept talking about Nicolas' confidence level improving with each day, his shot looking better than expected and his play, in general, looking "smooth".
The bottom line is that Mike has more access to the Blazers than anyone else writing a blog. Mike watches the entire practice, not just the last few minutes (that might only consist of Free Throw shooting anyway). In addition, Mike has a great understanding of the game and is able to objectively report on how the players look. Mike isn't flashy, and doesn't try to call attention to himself with his wrtiting. He simply has superior content.
If you read blogs for entertainment, then you won't have any trouble finding writers who are more interested in sizzle over substance. If you appreaciate high level content, then check out http://mikebarrettsblog.blogspot.com/
I'm looking forward to Courtside tomorrow night !
Go Blazers !

I like mike barret
but I wouldnt say he is that objective as he is a blazers employee and I have yet to see a negative comment about anyone on the team or even any constructive criticism for that matter; when I read mike I know I am being propagandized, but it doesn’t bother me that much.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

The FanShot building interface sucks.
As a person that builds human interface for a living I consider it pathetic.
You will never see me criticising anyone for not wanting to use it.

hu!!!
I tried to get one of them cool looking video fanshots up and I skrew’d it all up….
the link one works pretty well though simple and straight forward, but the video part is not built for idiots such as myself….the quote one is kinda….confusing cuz well?…like I said I’m an idiot…the list part is cool but…why not just do a poll with it if your gonna make a list…well? I dunno, but yeah…then you got that image part…good luck with that….
fan shots are kinda ….difficult for the semi computer illiterate….
but if someone wanted to put together a userfreindly usermanuel maybe dave could link it to the main page for the dummies like me. :)

Mike Barret could only be better if....
He were Mike Rice. Just kidding, I love em both.
Barret’s blog constantly surprises me. It never comes off as blatant PR. In fact, it’s just info and perspective. He doesn’t have bad things to say because he’s not the type of guy to say them. I’m sure the Blazers don’t want him to say anything negative of course, but I’m not sure he would anyway.
Good job MB, and thanks for the hard work. Spank yourself on the butt for me!!!!! I have never told a guy to do that before, so you should really feel special.
I'm a really really ridiculously good looking orange mocha frappaccino drinking manhammer sandwich
I should have known that this fanshot would become 5x recced...
Now we get to stare at it for 3 more days.
Anybody want to do a “True Hoop Appreciation” post?
Nothing against Mike Barrett, who is swell — but why not put up threads for NBA.com, ESPN.com, and O-Live while we’re at it?

I dunno--I think Barrett's pretty exceptional in a low-key way
He’s really grown on me. Based on what I’ve seen at other teams’ official sites, Barrett is pretty special. He’s obviously a real fan, and while he doesn’t buck the company line, he’s no shill either. As the poster said, he’s got valid insights and unequaled access. Plus, he works hard, writes well, and gives us fans plenty of stuff to chew on.
Kudos and thanks, MB.

Love Barrett, but he's no Nostradamus
Or is he? MB has lots of positive things to say about all of the players, as is his wont as a Trail Blazers employee. But, as far as making accurate predictions go, he’s kind of just throwing pickles against the window to see what sticks. He talks up all the players, and generally highlights each one’s ceiling. He’s looked really good doing this the last couple years because the Blazers’ young talent has really lived up to or exceeded expectations. But I’m not really willing to say that he has incredible predictive powers.
I suppose he is similar to Nostradamus in that he puts out a great volume of generally positive expectations for players, some of which come true in a non-specific sense. I appreciate your post highlighting MB and what he does, but claiming that he’s better at seeing future developments than other observers is a bit of retroactive clairvoyance.
