I was hoping to get a Blazer or 2 Theres noway starting 4 Blazers can be productive.( Just could not pass drafting a couple extra of these guys) I could not believe these guys were not looked at a little closer. Shaq went undrafted I put in for him on waivers for insurance. Also Blake Outlaw and Martell are still available along with Bayless.(tempting just for the novelty but I have too pass)

question
why would you try and get waivers on Shaq when you have 4 centers? Even in 2 center leagues 4 seems excessive although you at least got guys who have multiple positions aside from Oden and Howard.
Is this a weekly h2h league with no daily changes or are you in a keeper or roto league. If you are playing weekly you should probably try and trade away (gasp) Oden if he is showing well in the first week.
Is this at 10 or 12 team league? If it is 12 or more than it seems you did real well for yourself
as a side note I gave up fantasy bball as It really interfered with me being a basketball fan.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

Who in the world
was your #1 pick? Howard is your highest rated player at #38 by pre drafting standards. Also, what categories are you basing your points on. That makes a big difference.

what standard?
I’ve seen Howard rated as high as 5th (and no lower than 20) by some fantasy experts depending on H2H or roto and whether TOs count or not.
I hope it’s a 12 team league.

Of course I grabbed him with my 3rd pick overall because I thought that ranking was way off.

that's a good value
I don’t like yahoo or espn’s standard rankings, but most people just end up using them, so you can get a lot of good pickups.

No kidding
In a 10 person league, I got
Baron Davis
Andre Igudala
Rip Hamilton
Shawn Merrion
LMA
Dwight Howard
Oden
David Lee
Rudy
Josh Smith
Earl Watson (simply for his assists)
I actually was able to trade Brand for Merrion and Smith (I still can’t believe that one) because Brand was ranked #6 overall. I had s couple of projects, which by the way, if Wilson Chandler is available, you should really consider picking him up, but I decided to drop them because I can float in enough categories (they are using technical fouls and flagrant fouls, so keeping those numbers to a minimum is a big help) and picked up Arenas and Ellis. I hope it works because in January my team will be able to roll through anyone from then through the playoffs.

What are the categories in your league
While this team would do well on a basketball court, you are conceding WAY too many traditional fantasy statistics in order to compete.
You’d do well in FG% Pts, RB and competitive in Assists and TO
That team would rarely win: 3PM, FT%, STL, BLK
Even though Dwight Howard is ranked extremely low on Yahoo, if you have a top 3 pick, LeBron, Kobe, CP3 or Amare had better be on your team. There is little argument for anyone outside of those four as a top three pick.
by Salem Stephen on Oct 26, 2008 12:03 AM PDT 0 recs
Didn't see the "not third overall" ignore that part.
You might as well pick up Shaq… you are already conceding FT% having Howard on your team.
Just know that Phoenix is limiting his minutes in back-to-back games. They may even bench him completely on some of those games.

I dont see why
blocks is not a competitive category for the team. If he is playing roto he will need to make changes, but he might do ok in h2h

Howard was my first overall pick, #7 I am way too loaded up at the 5 spot but guards pg, sg, and sf were flying off the board, and I had to draft Oden with my #2 pick I felt moraly obligated, Im playing a h2h league, I draft rotiserie tonight but will not let my Blazer fandon influence it as much.
I actually started panicking in the 3rd rnd was not sure I could get a quality pg, for some odd reason Parker was still there, LMA was a fifth rounder, I think I dominate the boards and blocked shots, ast’s will be ok Most of my players have better then avg. ast’s stats for there positions, I am going to concede to’s early on, as for scoring looking at the other 11 teams in my league most of them thats there primary quality. Ive always gone with rebounding and bocked shots and usually win out these catogorys, ft’s is my 3rd most important catagory and I should be in solid shape there also(Howard put up good pre-season numbers he definatly gets too the line alot) All in all I will be making numerous roster moves as this is a grind of a season even though its easier then fantesy Baseball. I think Roy was a steal in the 6th rnd.

This year
will definitely be a learning curve year for you.
The thing about fantasy is that they get ranked in how they can produce on their own, and also relaive to the team you put together around you. Howard for instance, gets varied rankings depending on categories and also fantasy ranker opinion. The thing about Howard is that his FT% is so astronomically damaging because he not only shoots low (a lot of other centers shoot about the same, Biedrins, Bogut, Okafor, etc., but he shoots a lot of fts. I think he led the league in attempts last year. The only way you can make it up would be to surround Howard with high volume, high FT% players. Your lineup would have to look something like:
DHoward, Kevin Martin, Brad Miller, Maggette, Iverson, Kobe, Wade, etc., etc. There is a reason Dwight finished the year with a ranking close to 80 (one slump and he just kills your team).
The other thing to realize about fantasy is that you need to build your team with a certain philosophy and balance, i.e., are you a smaller team with steals, assists, 3s, ft, with care to shore up fg, blks, rebounds, or a larger team with just the opposite. LeBron and Kobe are at-the-top players because they are “hinge” players with significant across the board skills, while CP3 and Amare are at-the-top players because they are the best at their positions (though Yao may be even better than Amare, but he is never healthy enough long enough for us to find out).
Your biggest problem is that your team has no real dominant category (assists is closest, but Ridnour and Conley could end up victims of timeshare. If they don’t they may bring high TOs with their assists), and has already punted FT% and has high turnover players. That is not to say you can’t win any categories in your matchups, but it will be due more to your opponent’s weakness than your strength.
I put myself in the same position last year (though I had the luck of being a huge Marion fan, and he was available when I drafted, meaning I only blew a 2nd round pick on Dwight). You are going to need to roll up your sleeves, do your homework, and work the waiver wire like nobody’s business. On the plus side, you’ll learn a lot.

I Don't Think..
I’d include Wade on the list of ‘high FT% players’. Just sayin’.

Good Fantasy Basketball Teams don't look that good on the court
Here is mine… I’m not that crazy about it, but it should be decent.
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Kevin Martin
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Josh Smith
C: Greg Oden
G: Mike Miller
F: Ron Artest
Ut: Chris Kaman
Ut: Raymond Felton
Ut: Zach Randolph
Bench: Samuel Dalembert
Bench: John Salmons
Bench: Randy Foye (May drop for Nene)
by Salem Stephen on Oct 26, 2008 12:30 AM PDT 0 recs
I would hold on to Foye
If he produces like he did at the end of last year, he will be the statistical equivalent of Roy, but with a couple less boards and an extra three pointer per game (and his FT% is higher, one part of Roy’s real-life game that has puzzled me last season. He’s not bad, but you’d like a guy like him to be consistently hittting about 80% or more). Nene is much more of a gamble, and, from what I can tell, a third bona fide assist/3 ball threat is more valuable to you than a few extra boards and a block or two, especially since between your current centers plus J-Smoov, you should be getting 7-8 blocks and 35-40 boards (+ Melo, Miller, and Randolph should give great production on the glass this year).
I really like your team right now. A couple solid sleepers (Salmons and Foye), only a couple of guys whose production could be good or drop off from last year (Felton under Brown, Kaman now woth Camby) and excellent early round drafting (I’m guessing it went Paul JS Melo Martin. The first two are right where you’d expect to get them, and the last two could produce pass their draft position as they may still take a leap forward this year). It’s harder to put a team together during the draft than beforeo or in hindsight; I’m undecided about a couple of mine, but yours looks like it went really well.

Almost forgot
If Foye blows up, he’s good trade bait, rather than just letting someone nab him for free off of the bench. That’s the best part about your team, and part of a good draft in general. You may have problems that need to be addresses, but you have the pieces to move to address them.
