There Is No Justice: Hill (and Jackson) Waived
Commence sobbing. Once you've pulled yourself together, fondly reminisce about the bearded one in the comments.
On the flip side: congratulations to Shavlik Randolph, you're the last man on the island. You win: a roster spot. That's right, Shavlik Randolph just went from zero to hero and his name appears on the Blazers' opening night official roster. I guess it's fair to say he had a heck of a preseason, given the (lack of) expectations. Good job.
This might have just ruined my vacation.
TRAIL BLAZERS WAIVE LUKE JACKSON, STEVEN HILL
Portland Sets Roster for Opening Night
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Trail Blazers waived forward Luke Jackson and rookie center Steven Hill, General Manager Kevin Pritchard announced today. Portland's roster stands at 15 players entering Opening Night at the L.A. Lakers on Tuesday.
"We want to thank Luke and Steven for their contributions during training camp and preseason and wish them all the best for the future," said Pritchard. "They've conducted themselves as real pros on and off the court and we believe both of them have a bright future in basketball."
A former All-American at the University of Oregon, Jackson (6-7, 215) played in three preseason games, averaging 5.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 19.3 minutes. The four-year NBA veteran was 5-for-15 (33.3%) from the field and 1-for-4 (25.0%) from 3-point range.
Hill (7-0, 245) saw action in three preseason games, recording averages of 1.0 points, 0.7 rebounds, 0.67 blocks and 9.0 minutes. The rookie from Arkansas was a member of the team's 2008 NBA Summer League squad and signed on August 27, along with Jackson and Jamaal Tatum.

as a duke undergrad, i feel like i must defend the school. We don’t have a problem making the tourney, its when we get to it that we poop the bed. so i guess the blazers will make the playoffs a lot and blow it in the first round.
You just outlined our goal for this season :)
And that’s about the maximum amount of time Shavlik will be on this team if nothing miraculous happens.

Also, I expect that Lance Thomas, Singler, Gerald Henderson, Jon Scheyer, and Greg Paulus will once again be bounced from the NCAA Tournament during its first weekend.
He would really need to work on his athleticism this season (quickness)
Since in the pros he will likely have to play small forward, he just isn’t strong enough against most NBA power forwards. And while his shot has great form especially when catching and shooting with his feet set it takes veeeery long to release it. That needs to get quicker, or he will get contested quite a lot and then his percentage drops quickly. It’s no coincidence why he is the last of the top 10 players from the class of 2007 to still play in the NCAA next season. It’s not even clear if he declares for next year’s draft.

But is Randolph guaranteed a roster spot?
There have been rumblings that an empty roster spot may be more beneficial than a player. At least that’s what I remember reading somewhere before the pre-season began.
So he still possibly might get the boot as well.

I don't get the "empty roster spot" talk
After all, there is a mechanism known as “waivers” that allows you to clear a roster spot easily at any time. Sure, you have to pay him still, but what’s a rookie contract anyway? $400k? Storyteller would probably be able to tell us more…

Because Nate is a NC State guy...
Where Shav’s namesake grandfather’s jersey hangs in the rafters (all american, all time school rebound leader, played with Knicks..) Maybe Nate was in favor of the signing
well..just that he would know of other NC players
and probably has some extra insight on ACC players … and he did just spend the summer with coach K
All of which means nothing...
… when compared to watching a player in practice.
As a coach, McMillan can learn all he needs to know about a player from watching him. What he did in college, what his grandfather did, or what some other coach might tell him rank a very distant second to first hand observation. If they rank at all.

I´ve read Nate was asked in an interview about Hill filling the last roster spot and Nate smiling and saying "yes" with the movement of his head. Inmediately KP made a statement about that, saying that it was the Blazer staff which makes the decision.
Sergio + Rudy = 16
Sergio + Bayless = 16
Batum 8+8=16
That was before the "perfect boxscore"

http://www.myspace.com/y5k
Hmm, I thought you'd already answered that in the negative in the KP's mistake sidebar...
Well, lest there be any doubt, no he is not a “good culture guy”. Who wants a fanatical bigot on the team?
Palin drone: a statement that is equally nonsensical whether uttered or written forward or backward.
While his views may be hateful.
That doesn’t make him a bad culture guy. He has said some horrible things, but that doesn’t mean he would adversely affect chemistry.
Technically, his reactionary remarks regarding homosexuality don't make him a "fanatical bigot."
As it is, Randolph was quoted making the following comments: “As long as you don’t bring your gayness on me I’m fine. As far as business-wise, I’m sure I could play with him. But I think it would create a little awkwardness in the locker room.”
http://nba.fanhouse.com/2007/02/08/shavlik-randolph-doesnt-want-any-gayness-brought-his-way
Although Randolph undoubtedly holds a culturally illiberal, socially unprogressive viewpoint, it isn’t as if he’s proclaiming tangible hatred toward homosexual individuals; on the contrary, he’s expressing a form of intolerance. Therefore, instead of improperly deeming Randolph a “fanatical bigot,” the more semantically appropriate label to place him with is that of a narrow-minded, prejudiced ignoramus.
In all honesty, it’s ill-informed of people to flippantly misuse the term “bigot.” The same thing happens when people misconstrue ethnocentricism and racism, for the former deals with one’s mindset (e.g., thinking that your ethnicity is superior to others) and the latter deals with one’s actions (e.g., instituting racial segregation like apartheid).
Let's agree to disagree
This will be my last word on the subject, at least in this thread.
According to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bigot, the only dictionary I’ve bothered to consult today, a bigot is:
a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices ; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
And, in http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fanatical, fanatical is defined as:
marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion
By expressing his intense, uncritical intolerance with excessive enthusiasm (i.e., publicly), he seems to fit the definition.
I think you are splitting semantic hairs here, and while I’m happy to see somebody take an interest in preserving the expressiveness of modern English, I’m not sure your post is really all about language.
Palin drone: a statement that is equally nonsensical whether uttered or written forward or backward.
I can't stand the idea of rooting for a homophobe, especially in portland.

Rudyculize: The act of Rudy making others look slow, dim and generally oafish.
http://www.myspace.com/y5k
I guess that in my, uh, somewhat subjective opinion ...
the Westboro Baptist Church is classified by me as a hate group that’s full of fanatical bigots.
Conversely, Shavlik Randolph is just a close-minded ultraconservative with antiquated values.
It isn't like he went out seeking an audience for his opinion
he was approached and asked — this wasn’t a Hardaway… (or a LeBron) response.. He’s just naive, and he was honest in his assesment, and who is expressing more vigorous intolerance – him or you about him? Can someone have an opinion thats not yours?
hopeully he’s learned to not think out loud ..
he’s a simple sheltered kid from the bible belt … probably the first time he cosidered that someone might be checkin him out in the shower..
INtolerance might have looked like “oh wow, no way I could deal with this…” but thats not what he said. Sounds like he thought that it would make him uncomfortable to be hit on in the locker room .. again as if it had never occured to him that it was possible..
Anyway, I know him well enough to assure you that he meant no-one any disrespect by this..in fact I can tell you he probably doesn’t even know that anyone paid any attention to wht he said..he doesn’t pay attention to much outside of working out and working on his game
I have never asked him about this directly, but I will..
In terms of “culture guy” he was a fan favorite in Philly rookie season and #2..would get standing O’s when he came in just for having fought to make the squad after being undrafted. AI and Webber loved him, he has a big heart for kids . . did ALOT of community stuff in Philly area and here in NC , , ,
Thanks for your point of view
Sounds like Randolph has some redeeming qualities. Everyone has an excuse for why they behave badly, when they do. Attitudes of fear, distrust, and hatred of other people as a group based on ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, etc, are extremely dangerous. They are the basis for many of the worst atrocities in human history, leading people to beat, lynch, stone, and exterminate others.
Palin drone: a statement that is equally nonsensical whether uttered or written forward or backward.
By that definition CatMan, you then are a bigot....
… as you appear obstinately devoted to your opinion and prejudices concerning Randolph.
Where is your tolerance for Randolph’s viewpoint? Taking the three sentences Randolph uttered, you have 1) an expression that illustrates a fear of an unwanted advance, 2) an expression of tolerance on a professional level and 3) an observation. There is absolutely nothing to find fault with in either of the last two statements. As for the first, that appears to be more a case of a young man responding based on a mistaken image of homosexuals wanting to make sexual advances to every person of the same sex. It’s an attitude that can addressed by a little education and exposure. Condeming and castigating the guy as a bigot certainly doesn’t bring anything to the table.
hakkaa päälle !
Yes, I'm intolerant of intolerance
I knew this thread was going to suck me in. This really WILL be my last word on the subject.
Look, I don’t know anything about Randolph except what I’ve read, and I’ve read very little. I felt I had to say something after the Blazers signed him because nobody else seemed to be addressing his remarks.
In the Jail Blazers era, this would hardly have been worth mentioning, but signing Randolph now seems at variance with the apparent commitment of the Blazers organization to putting together a team of guys who can serve as role models in the community.
I hope he somehow manages to evolve and, until then, learns that it’s not a good idea to blurt out your prejudices. However, I do not like having a guy on the team who thinks it’s okay to publicly display intolerance. Although he has broken no laws, I don’t consider him a better person than one who raises dogs to fight to the death.
Palin drone: a statement that is equally nonsensical whether uttered or written forward or backward.
That last sentence is truly amazing
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.
His whole post is amazing.
The only thing one can reasonably argue about Randolph from his statement is that he is intolerant of someone of the same sex making advances towards him.
Personally, I think that is a reason position. How is it any different than being intolerant of someone of the opposite sex making unwanted advances. Were your wife or daughter a waitress, would you label them as intolerant and bigoted if they stated they didn’t want their ass grabbed everytime they walked passed a customer’s table?
I really don’t want to call CatMan out. It’s not that I believe his viewpoint regarding sexual preference is wrong. But when I see statements like intolerant of intolerance, I can’t keep quiet. It really is a moronic statement. Expressing intolerance of another’s opinion is an exihibition of intolerance.
Which reminds me – I heard a great line from Harvey Keitel on a preview for the new TV series he’s in. When a young fellow detective makes some remark about a crime being a hate murder, he responds with “Oh, as in not being an I love so much murder?”
hakkaa päälle !

the really funny thing about the whole Shavik affair is that he’s SO GAY!

Intolerance is not just an opinion
When you express intolerance toward other people because of their race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual preference, etc, and this expression is condoned even tacitly, you help to create a general atmosphere in which it seems increasingly okay to criticize and scapegoat the out-group. Not infrequently, some people will think it’s okay to resort to physical violence against the hated group. And, as history shows, this can even lead to genocide. Let’s not forget that, in addition to Jews, other groups, including Gypsies and gays, were systematically rounded up by the Nazis for their ‘final solution’.
Palin drone: a statement that is equally nonsensical whether uttered or written forward or backward.
Great
Now Randolph is a Nazi. You are so far over the top on this subject I can’t believe it.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.
Why are you putting words in my mouth?
I didn’t say Randolph is a Nazi. I said that if people can go around and spout off about certain groups of people whom they don’t like, and nobody challenges that kind of behavior, you can wind up with a society in which it entire groups of people are rounded up and exterminated or enslaved.
I didn’t make this up. History has shown it can happen. People don’t seem to think it can happen here (USA), but in fact it already has happened here. Ask the descendants of American slaves or some of the remaining Native Americans.
Palin drone: a statement that is equally nonsensical whether uttered or written forward or backward.
Godwin's Law
Reference to Hitler and/or Nazis (aka argument “reductio ad Hitlerum”) usually indicates the end of a productive ’Net discussion (and the possible start of a flamewar).
Let us move on.
I'm not big on so-called "laws"...
…………………………. nor am I big on right wing dumbasses. But it seems that S-bo’s “offense” was that of being frank, which should not be penalized too severely. There are fifteen times more players who share his ideology who are more discrete…
What he said was……………………. silly.
"It's not a joke -- it's not a game." — B-Rex
There's a gigantic difference between ...
someone possessing an unhealthy disdain toward a group of individuals (e.g., Shavlik Randolph’s aversion to homosexuality) versus a tangible act of oppression upon a group of individuals (e.g., the Nazi Party’s genocide of Jews during the Third Reich).
If you can’t comprehend such stark differences, then I pity you.
Now, with regards to the slippery slope argument, I’m a civil libertarian who detests that Big Brother mentality. It’s bothersome that some people want to combat ignorance with oppression rather than education and tolerance. It’s hypocritical, contradictory rubbish that gets us nowhere.
Really, my last words on this subject!
Yes there are differences. I comprehend the differences. Save your pity.
But, yes, there is a slippery slope. I only posted my original remarks when I figured nobody else was going to do so. I thought it was important to at least mention the apparent conflict between the Blazers organization’s stated goal of creating a team of guys worth emulating and the recent SR signing.
Bigotry is fairly serious in my book. Because even a “small” dose of it can create an atmosphere where greater excesses are condoned, I have pretty much a zero tolerance attitude regarding it. Yes, I’m aware of the apparent, but not actual, irony of this position (intolerance of intolerance). And no, I’m not going to explain it in any more detail because it just seems so clear to me and, I guess, so mystifying to some others here that I probably have no hope of truly communicating.
I believe people can and do change, sometimes even for the better. I hope Randolph does.
Last thing: I don’t appreciate the vitriol that has been focused on me during this exchange. At no time have I been less than polite in addressing your comments. For example, I don’t characterize your statements as “moronic”.
Palin drone: a statement that is equally nonsensical whether uttered or written forward or backward.
All right, I apologize for being a jerk.
The personal attacks by me toward you were unwarranted here.

He's not gay-bashing
He just doesn’t understand gays very well.
He didn’t say he would object to being a teammate of a gay.
Your definition says:
one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
Shavlik says he could play with a gay teammate. So that’s hatred and intolerance?
He’s guilty of ignorance, nothing more. The mistaken view that a gay guy is likely to make unwelcome advances to straight guys. In fact, it does happen, but it isn’t real likely. So Randolph didn’t know that? So what? He’d probably never even known any gay guys (at least knowingly).
As I said on another thread, what Lebron said was far worse. He said that a gay guy who doesn’t tell his teammates is untrustworthy. In fact, that was a direct personal attack, and shows far more ignorance, as well.
How come Lebron gets a free pass? Because he’s a superstar?
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.
And it still hasn't been answered
Lebron gets a free pass.
When threads are started suggesting bringing Lebron to Portland, no one accuses him of homophobia or intolerance which can lead to Naziism or anything else.
Both revealed a lack of understanding, but no real malice. But there sure has been a lot of malice directed towards SR.
And Lebron gets a free pass. Why?
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.
Hey jscot
Just to tie up a loose end here …
If you are implying that I, in particular, should have addressed Lebron’s remarks or attitudes in my posts, here is why I didn’t:
1. To be honest, I’m simply not that knowledgeable a basketball fan. I don’t know much about Lebron except what I find out when the Blazers play his team. I didn’t know much about him except that he is an amazingly skilled player.
2. Many things have been said in this thread. My original thoughts were drowned out by a series of digressions I never really wanted to get into, and which I’m sorry now that I did. I take some of the responsibility for presenting my views less clearly than was necessary. Anyhow, I would not have wanted to be further carried off course by discussing Lebron James.
3. I don’t tend to get involved in lots of trade talk except to note that I like the guys we already have. So, I’m not one of the people that’s been calling for the Blazers to trade for Lebron, or, as some people have — astonishingly — for K@be.
4. We were, I thought, just discussing this new guy, Randolph, that the Blazers signed. His views are only of interest to me because he is a Blazer, and he has made public statements which I am not going to bother characterizing again, and which some of us disagree about, but which all of us probably wish were never made.
It has further occurred to me that I shouldn’t have let myself be baited into extending this conversation as far as I did, and that my remarks would not have been as apparently provocative as they were had more people bothered to join me in wondering about the seeming disconnect between the Blazers touted philosophy and the acquisition of Randolph. I can’t believe I am in such a small minority on this blog. But maybe that is the case.
Moving on now.

we won’t tolerate that! (just kiddin ya know)…
Did you ever see the South Park episode that sent the Kids through the Museum of Tolerance? you gotta look it up — it’s a hoot!
Perhaps
you are in a minority because you are reading more into his comments than most people do.
If Randolph were what you’ve characterized him as being, you would probably have a lot of support for what you are saying. You might even have me supporting you.
But I suspect most of us view it as simply a case of a relatively uninformed guy being asked a question, and his answer, while revealing his lack of awareness, contained no malice, ill intent, or any other great problem at all.
Just ignorance. And I don’t think ignorance is incompatible with the Blazers’ philosophy.
Thanks for the discussion, anyway.

Have you considered the possibility
that the reason more people are not agreeing with you on your observation is due to you seeing something that isn’y there?
I am not seeing people disagree with your general viewpoint. What they are disagreeing with is your specific opinion that Randolph represents the sort of poor character individual that Portland has tried to steer away from. From what you have presented, that opinion appears to be based on three sentences uttered by Randolph.
There are three errors in your logic. In ascending order:
1) Three sentences is a very small sample to base an evaluation, particularly when you consider they come from a young person in their early 20’s.
2) No credit is given to the fact that Kevin Pritchard, the architect of this team, was the person who made the decision to sign Randolph. That alone should be primafacia (sp?) evidence towards Randolph’s character.
3) It requires extreme sensitivity to take offense at or find fault with what Randolph said.
You sound like a senstive person. Nothing wrong with that. The only message I’ve tried to get across is that in this instance you might need to recalibrate that sensitivity. Not so some here can claim we are right, but because it has led you to imply that a young man is intolerant, possibly a gay basher and of poor character, all on the flimsiest of evidence. In my opinion, that is what often results from “zero” tolerance.

That’s your opinion, dude, and it’s neither better nor worse than Shavlik Randolph’s opinion regarding sexual orientation; yet, I vehemently disagree with both viewpoints.

I'll cut Qyntel Woods some slack here, as he's ...
definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. Even though that doesn’t excuse his wrongdoing regarding the inhumane treatment of dogs and criminal conviction for dogfighting, he still served his punishment and apologized for his actions.
Plus, Woods probably grew up in a subculture where dogfighting was the norm.
I, however, won’t rip Woods for getting released by Olympiacos of the Greek League due to testing positive for marijuana. In my opinion, that’s a victimless crime; it shouldn’t even be on the books. Of course, we all known that everyone has differing viewpoints on the matter.
It's still stupid
to risk your career for it, even if it is a victimless crime.
There’s always been a difference between “what should be” and “the way things are”, and if you are going to function effectively in life, you have to take into account “the way things are” in the decisions you make.
Woods didn’t.

Maybe we got MJ23 or Pippen is back and it’s a big opening night surprise who is starting at small forward.

My question is this:
people keep referring to Hill as a “legit 7 footer.” But does that mean that he legitimately measures to be 7 feet tall? Or that he has a “legit” game for a 7 foot center? Cause lets face it, the guys cool and rocks an awesome face bush but he kinda sucks at the game of basketball. I’m just gonna assume that when people use the word legit and Hill in the same sentence they are not referring to his abilities on the court.

Steve Hill, who's 7'0", is a true center who can strongly defend the position.
On offense, though, Hill has almost no game whatsoever. At best, Hill may be the next Rasho Nesterovic; nevertheless, it’s more probable that he’s this year’s Lukasz Obrzut, which isn’t a compliment. Hill should soon learn to enjoy being a backup center in the D-League, since that’s likely to be his career trajectory.
Well, good luck Hill, we hardly knew ye...
Sounds familiar though… bust your behind, do everything the boss asks of you, all the dirty work – and still get laid off!
Hopefully he lands on his feet (Luke too). Many teams can use a pure shooter, or a big, unselfish blocker in the middle. They both certainly have a great work ethic.
I don't think this is the last we have seen from Hill
After the trade deadline, if RLEC has not been traded, he (or “it” if you refuse to refer to RLEC as a person) is completely worthless to the team which means he/it will likely get cut. I’m guessing the first time the team has an open roster spot, my guess is that Hill will be that 3rd string center. While Randolph has looked good, he isn’t a good sparring partner for Oden or a legitimate defensive option at center.
I think the deadline was at Noon EDT

Hello Kevin, I’m calling from Commisioner Stern’s Office. We need to know within the next two minute your final roster for the start of this NBA season.
KP; uh, huh? uh I haven’t, uh even….uh
Commish’s Toady; No you have not.
KP: …uh …shaved yet…

Since you are essentially terminating a contract with a player, yes
Maybe it’s a fax. Or a website. But the NBA and NBPA probably insist on something in writing.

There goes my theory...
I was waiting for Hill to make the team and see how he was fitting in before breaking it out but I guess it needs some reworking. If they had kept Hill, I could see them using Joel in a trade for a veteran SF or PG to match salaries and sweeten the pot at the same time. Waiving Hill tells me Joel won’t be part of the RLEC trade.
Keeping Shavlik might mean Frye would be more likely to go in that trade. I am not saying they should trade him. I am just talking about what they might be trying to do.
PTB Liberation Day - 2/10/04
Like others, I'm surprised
I thought Hill would be more useful, if only as cannon fodder for practices. (I.e., for absorbing all those elbows from GO when Joel is too bruised up.)

I guess it means
that if Goden or Joel should go down, KP thinks we can fill in at the center spot with one of our PF’s.

The future is now
What an absolutely impressive roster from top to bottom. I think any number of combinations of starting lineups could win you more than 41 games. You could start rodriguez, fernandez, outlaw, pryzbilla, fry and win 50 games. The team is totally stacked. Randolph as a 12th man is ridiculous. I heard canzano say that pritchard wil be judged by oden – but I think hes wrong….greg could end up being average but this team will still excel. But Oden will be awesome anyway so it doesnt matter. Pritchard has already more than done his job. I grew up in Chicago and watched the evolution of the Bulls. I watched Jordan get drafted and then Pippen with Grant and the growing pains…and then the adding of Cartwright and Kukoc…with guys like Paxson and Kerr…then finally Rodman. But in my eyes this Portland team is way ahead of those Bulls teams in their infantile stages. This Portland team is going to kick ass for years to come. All we need to do as fans is sit back and enjoy. Just rattle off the names from Bayless to Fernandez…Roy…Oden…Blake….etc.
whoa...
You could start rodriguez, fernandez, outlaw, pryzbilla, fry and win 50 games.
No, you couldn’t.
Also, Randolph is a 15th man.
Did it ever occur to you that Shav may have more upside than
Ike or 12 mil Raef – esp considering RLEC can’t play this yr — and with Martell out that makes him 12t
I don't think there is any doubt about that.
Even before his latest injury, Raef appeared to be finished. Apparently his knees are bad enough that he just doesn’t have much in the way of lift or quickness anymore. It’s too bad, as I thought a healthy LaFrenz could have brought a lot to this team last year and this.
As for Diogu, I don’t like trying to evaluate a player without seeing him play, but from looking at stats and reading reports about the games, Randolph certainly appeared to perform much better than Diogu. Ike supposedly brings a low post power game from the 4 spot, which contrasts to Aldridge’s and Frye’s game. However from the little I know about Randolph, he has a pretty decent power game as well. He also appears to have more room to improve. In fact the only problem I see with siging him is that he’s unlikely to get the sort of minutes he’ll need to continue to improve his game. But at least he will have that opportunity in practice, and who knows, he could surprise us all and work his way into the rotation.
hakkaa päälle !
My conclusion
They aren’t too high on Diogu as a 3rd PF. If they were, this makes no sense at all.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

We're Fine.
With Oden and Pryz, and a player in Frye who will play PF, but who can give solid minutes at center if needed, as we saw last night in the Jazz game and at the end of last year, we have all the big men we need. After all, Shavlik can back up LMA if that happens. So, we’re fine. In fact, I think that the reason we did this is because we Hill simply doesn’t have an offensive game. Further, it also sends a signal that Shavlik may be our future 3rd team PF , not Ike, which will clear Ike’s contract off the table. Both players have had the injury bug, so we’ll see, but Randolph will clearly be cheaper for the next few years – but seems to have as much of a game as Ike.
