I heard that on the radio too.

I see Hill ending up on another team soon. He is too good to go to the D-League. A lot of teams can use a hard working, shot blocking center.

And he already knows how to shut down Greg Oden from working out with him daily! ;-)

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

The Portland Trail Blazers ...

would be better off with an open roster spot.

by AK1984 on Oct 23, 2008 12:24 PM PDT reply actions

It's mainly for roster flexibility.

I originally wanted Steven Hill to make the team, but he’s too one-dimensional — as his offense is non-existent at this point in his career — and would’ve been nothing more than practice/NBDL fodder.

Yet, instead of Shavlik Randolph, I’d’ve rather had a true third-string center on the roster to bang with Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla during practice. Unless Randolph can defend centers, he’s not that guy.

At this point in time, my vote goes to keeping an open roster spot for flexibility reasons.

by AK1984 on Oct 23, 2008 1:07 PM PDT up reply actions

If I'm not mistaken

His contract isn’t guaranteed until January, so in reality, we still have that flexibility of an open roster spot to make an in season trade.

Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game

by iDea on Oct 23, 2008 1:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually his current one (non-Guarantee) was to expire on November 1

So now….not so sure…but maybe he will help out here and there …he did score 27 pts in his last 48 min with 15 reb 6 blocked shots….

by LetsBlaze on Oct 23, 2008 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Shavlik Randolph's minimum-level contract ...

doesn’t become fully guaranteed ’til 1/10/2009, so you are correct here.

by AK1984 on Oct 23, 2008 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Unless he would get injured in a game or in training

In that case it gets instantly guaranteed. But the Blazers could still waive him to free up a spot.

Right

Who cares about the contract? They can waive him at any time.

How long till the first "Trade Shavlik Randolph" fanpost?

Surprising news. Considering Greg just opened up Zilla’s forehead in practice.

I’m still waiting on Hansboro.

Nick Fazekas has more potential than Shavlik Randolph, but ...

he’s also not a true center; thus, he doesn’t seem like a viable target.

Regarding Fazekas, he surprisingly lost out on a roster spot with the Denver Nuggets to a washed-up Juwan Howard. Honestly, Howard should join his fellow Fab Fiver, Chris Webber, in retirement.

Not for nothing and all jokes aside...

This is a big moment for him — it was widely felt that his injury was career ending — it was in Nov 2006 and he was starting at the time replacing an injured Chris Webber — His numbers across that starting 6 or 7 games were pretty impressive — he has always been one injury or illness away from achieving his potential — he ws the top ranked HS player in …2002? I think — Amare S. was #2 that year —

Given the ability of PTB management for making good decisions — maybe they found something here that will prove to our benefit — even if just in a trade package

But I also want to tell you

That Shav is one of the nicest people you will ever meet on the planet…

He has an incredible work ethic when it comes to the game, which is why he was so sheltered in so many other areas…he didn’t do anything but play —

This summer he worked out 35 + hours a week — more sometimes…

I’m guessing that those of you who have seen me out here might be figuring out who my “insider” with the PTB’s is…

I think Randolph is a nice player to have for the 15th spot

on the roster. I’m willing to bet he may be one of the best #15 men in the entire league.

Don’t know how much it will matter, as it is questionable how much court time he sees. But then again, he might just earn playing time if he really is any good.
