Junk Drawer-10/23-Less Than a Week Edition
A short 5 days until the season opener versus the L*kers! I don't think I need to say anymore about that.
Great Game 1 of the World Series last night with the Phillies winning 3-2. But I didn't get the impression they can dominate the Rays. This series could be a classic. I'm thinking 7 games with no game decided by more than 2 runs.
I didn't get to see highlights cause I couldn't find them (post em if you got em please) but it looks like Oden showed everyone who was only whelmed by his performance thus far with a nice double double. How as the game for those who attended on those cheap tickets discussed yesterday? There's already one nice game report from PoliSam. Any other thoughts?
And finally, to insert the randomness that sometimes ensure discussion I'll pose this question:
You're starting a band. For the sake of brevity, you get 5 members. All the members have to be Blazers. Who do you pick and what instruments do they play? Personally, I'd go with LMA on bass, Oden on drums, Roy on lead guitar, Rudy as lead singer, and Blake on harmonica, because I like random instruments in bands.
Have a great Thursday everyone!

Thank goodness that some things never change...
NEW YORK – Bill O’Reilly has re-upped with Fox News Channel in a multiyear deal that pays him about $10 million a year to host his top-rated news program, “The O’Reilly Factor.”
O’Reilly took a shot at his detractors, saying that if he retired, “I know my friends in the elite media would miss me greatly.”

I understand how "elitist" can be a negative label
But when did “elite” become a bad thing? I want to go back to Kennedy’s days of having “the best and the brightest.” Say that today and you’ll be called ’Out of touch with the real Americans".

First off -- ALL BANDS WITH FIVE MEMBERS SUCK.
So here is the Blazer band…
Lead guitar — Rex. You know the dude would be practicing in his sleep and I’ve always seen him as a guy that could murder with an axe.
Rhythm guitar and lead vocals — Rudy. Chick magnet. Wouldn’t need to play a lick.
Bass — Channing. Charismatic and hammy and could probably sing backups. God knows that Oden couldn’t.
Drums — Roy. He’s already proved he can do four things at once. He could sing backups, too, make it five…
The end.

Good example.
Good example of not all 5 member bands sucking with Pink Floyd. I agree with you on that. A good example of a group with less than 5 doing well is Rush. 3 members and they have done well for themselves. Canadian bias if you want but I am also a huge fan ( first concert I ever saw was them in Vancouver, B.C. 6 years ago and I own EVERY one of their cds ). Most groups I like are 4 members and the odd one 5, but I thought I’d thrown in my example of a less than 5 that has done well.

I was thinking of the band members more along
the lines of their team roles. For instance: Roy on lead guitar because he, to quote Almost Famous, is “the guitarist with mystique.” The one with the most talent, but not the flashiest guy. And that’s why Rudy is the lead singer. There are guys with more talent, but he is the rock star.

Blazer Preseason grades
Fanhouse blog posted this on 10/21 so it doesn’t include last nights game.
http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/277395
Overall i would agree with him on most players, especially this take on Sergio. I admit that I gave up on him last year, and thought he would never recover. And eventhough it is only preseason, I can’t help but get that tiggling of excitement I had during Sergio’s rookie year, even more so because he seems like he will be able to really contribute 15+ mins a night. Hopefully he is not just a tease and his preseason success carries over into the regular season.

Outlaw on drums. He's out of control like Animal from the Muppets.
Blake on angry vocals. I can imagine him violently swinging the mic stand around.
Ike on bass. Under that pudgy exterior is pure funk.
Rudy on lead guitar. He has a cigarette continuously dangling like Slash.
Steven Hill with some big 80’s aviator shades playing the sax. He doesn’t really fit in with the band, but the visual is great.
Nate is offstage arguing over the 20 inch Stonehenge.

Well, here I am in a library with a couple of minutes to spare.
Yesterday, in a place of surreal and fantastical beauty, we were poking around the desert to see what we could find when a tarantula as big as a dessert plate strolled right across our path. I swear to you, the fuzzy little guy was 6 inches in diameter. We followed him for quite awhile as he trudged single-mindedly along but he had an agenda that we were not privy to and he waltzed right out of our lives. I’d hate to find him in bed with me but it was a great chance encounter.
I’m going to try to find a sports bar where I can watch the opener against the Lakers. I figure that since it’s LA it’ll probably be televised by someone nationally. Hope so.
In a few weeks i hope to have a new laptop to replace the stupid Dell. Hopefully I can keep up with the happenings here at the Bedge. I’m feeling a little media deprived. There sure are a lot of new names I’m not familiar with here. The Bedge gains in popularity and fame. I miss this place.

The Band:
Vocals – Roy The leader and that guy with the swagger and presence to make the ladies swoon.
Lead Guitar – Rudy The guy who can improvise and every once in awhile bust out a solo that changes your life.
Bass Guitar – LMA Does not need the credit, but everyone knows that he makes the band go… brings the rhythm
Drums – Bayless He’d have to get extensions for his sticks so his arms could reach… but he would attack the snare like he was biting into a brontosaurus.
Triangle/Cowbell – Oden He can’t sing, he can’t dance, but he needs to be there. Plus, last years team definitely needed more cowbell.
