Adam Morrison
I don't know why, but I've never been a big fan of Adam Morrison. I enjoyed his college game, but I never felt he would make it in the NBA, or at least at the level that people were projecting him to play. I've read a few articles lately, about his veering-towards-bust career. I wonder what the Bobcats would want for him?
Everyone knows the guy can shoot, and on the Blazers, he wouldn't be required to get his own shot off, which he's had trouble with so far. Could he be a great spot up shooter in the mold of a Kapono or Korver?
If he could be had cheap, say a lottery protected first rounder or a first in 2010, would it be worth it? I'm still not confident we have the shooter this team needs. I know Rudy may fill that role eventually, or maybe Martell if he gets it together.
Morrison is interesting because he's not a star and he never will be. But he just may end up being a pretty nice role player.....

At this point, we got draft picks to spare
Besides, they wouldn’t give up Morrison for nothing.
I don’t know how to rate AM. Maybe I am too much a homer, but I still don’t see giving up say Travis or Frye for Morrison.
Also, I don’t know that Morrison fits our concept. I think that Nate and KP are doing something really interesting, here, with Rudy, Bayless and Roy, and with Oden and LMA. We have the traditional bigs, some quick bigs and a (besides Blake) nontraditional frontcourt. The question is how that meshes at the 3.
I really like how Martell came in. And I respect what Travis gives us. It seems like we have so many looks.
So why not add Morrison? I think he fits better with a more standard, half court set team. I don’t see him, even off the bench, coming in and adding to the flow.
A team needs glue guys, and maybe he is that, but probably for someone else?

He might put up 10pts/gm as a role player
but he would give up 35pts/gm to his man. He is possibly the worst defensive player in the entire NBA.
He rolled in like the Spanish Armada.

k now I'm returning to the post every five min just to get a giggle in...
these photos are awful. I couldn’t imagine ever being able to play in the nba again, after seeing myself in such an embarassing position…..not that I haven’t been caught in worse, but you know what I mean.

Adam Morrison ...
is one of the five worst wing defenders in the NBA, with Kevin Durant, Kevin Martin, Michael Redd, and Rudy Gay also making that list. Among those five guys, Gay is the only one with enough innate ability to be a useful defensive player; however, he’s always been too lazy and unfocused on that end of the court.

I'll pass on "The 'Stache"
Martell is already a better shooter than Morrison is. Here are their career stats…
Webster – 37.2% 3-PT FG
Morrison – 33.7% 3-PT FG
Rudy should instantly be able to put up, at worst, Morrison numbers from beyond the arc, and his ability to pass and play the passing lanes is far superior. Lets also not forget Rudy’s contract is significantly smaller than is Morrisons!
by lefty6283 on Oct 22, 2008 5:38 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I don't know about that
They get shots in totally different fashion at this time. Morrison has never been used as a spot up shooter like Martell. He takes way too many fall away pull up threes and such as it is now, but in a different roll, I thought he might thrive.
I don’t know if I’d even really want him, he was just somebody who popped up in my noggin as different from the usual suspects. And cheaper.

He's horrible defensively.
Absolutely abysmal. He was rated one of the worst players in the NBA by Hollinger before he tore his ACL. Hollinger isn’t great, but he had so much evidence of Morrison being terrible.

I read it today
and it’s what got me thinking. I mean, he’s horrible defensively, can’t get his own shot, doesn’t rebound, and is rail thin. BUT, he can shoot, there’s just no disputing that. He’s not athletic or quick enough to create his own shot in the NBA, so he ends up shooting horrible shots. If he had less responsibilities on a team that should be pretty good defensively, he could sit outside and rain tres all day.

AM would be a one-trick pony on a team
of multi-tool guys. And his one trick hasn’t impressed so far.
I can’t think of one player on the current 15-man roster I would give up for AM, including RLEC.

I don’t know what I’d give, but not much. That’s why I mentioned draft picks……really, I just wanted to get opinions on what people thought he could become. Anything? Like I said, picture him as a late round pick. Would you consider him a good value if he was picked No 28?

It got me thinking too
but he is not a spot up shooter and I dont know if Nate could hide him on d enough. To me he has the ability to do what Outlaw does, but with a higher BBIQ although he is not the master of one tool like Outlaw with his one step pull up.
My point was, and I think the posts bear this out, is that AM does not illicit interesting conversation around these parts for some reason.
Calling a guy a bust after a shaky rookie year on a bad team and then an ACL injury is not really being that fair, and I honestly dont know what draws out the ire like it does. We got Roy, we passed on AM. I can understand why Bulls fan seethe when LMA is brought to their attention, but I dont see why AM bothers people here so much.
To tie up these random thoughts, I hope that AM finds a place in the league as he was really fun to watch in college.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
by jonestr on Oct 22, 2008 7:04 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I doubt he bothers anyone here
but it’s not unfair to call him a bust so far. Even if a player’s career is derailed because of injuries instead of poor play, it’s fair to call him a bust. It just means he hasn’t performed up to expectations, not that he’s a bad person or has no talent or desire.

seriously
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. In year 4 if he has done nothing I will be more than willing to call him a bust, but not after one year where he was used as a spot up shooter on an offensively anemic team. I would say a bust is someone who doesn’t live up to their abilities due to factors that they control. If you define a bust as not living up to other peoples preceptions of their potential, then you are not really giving the person a fair shake. I know that seems a little vague, but if I put Vern Toyer in a Blazers uni and then told everyone he was the next MJ then it really isnt Vern Troyer’s fault if he doesn’t live up to my hype. I would say the perfect example of a bust is someone like Eddy Curry who just doesn’t put in the work to utilize his amazing tools.

I was in Charlotte last week
And I went to the Charlotte-Atlanta game. “The Stache” was on the bench in street clothes. I was disappointed because I wanted to see his game in person.
On a side note, boy do we have it great here in Portland.
There were about 3,000 to 3,500 fans there.
I mentioned to my brother about 2 minutes into the game that it was sooooooo quiet. He agreed, but had no frame of reference. I was comparing it to the second preseason game that I went to. I didn’t get to go to the first preseason game. :(
It was noted the day after the second preseason game — by the Oregonian — that the crowd was soooo quiet here. I beg to differ. But they were comparing night one vs. night two.
Again, we’ve got it so good here. Enjoy it.

J.J. Redick at least has a sweet shooting stroke, although he can't create his own shot.
Adam Morrison, however, doesn’t even have that skill; he just chucks the damn ball like a maniac.

JJ, as a 6'4" two guard who can't D up two guards, would still be better than Stache at the three...
At least he brings SOME marketable skill to the table.

JJ is "one of the best shooters in the world"
according to a commercial for his How to Shoot DVD. Am I the only one who thinks maybe he should actually get into O-town’s rotation before he allows his marketing department to make claims like that? I mean, it’s a true statement, but you could say that about most NBA players, and it comes-off like Al Gore saying he invented the Internet.

The Stache's "role" is being terrible...
His rookie year was one of the worst by any player in league history, on both sides of the ball. I would’t trade Shavlik for him, the day Shavlik gets cut. He makes Corey Brewer look like a great draft pick. I would rather start Pryz at the three – because at least there’s a CHANCE he stays in front of somebody and doesn’t jack terrible shots.
Great college player, and I certainly admire his commitment to the ways of the mustache. Don’t get me wrong – I like him personally. And I hope he turns the whole NBA thing around. But for a team bad enough to justify giving him a chance…

If we want a player "in the mold of a Kapono or Korver"...
Korver himself could be an unrestricted free agent next off-season (early termination option). Just saying. I know the photo above and that he plays bad defense and doesn’t rebound a lot for a guy his size, but he is a good outside shooter and one of the best (I would say top 3-5) in the league in closing out games at the free throw line.
As for Morrison, I would like to see a sign that he has returned fully healed from his ACL surgery (didn’t look free of problems in the pre-season) and can contribute substantially to the Bobcats before trying to make any trade for him.
