Quick Poll Regarding O-Live Debate
In keeping with Douglast's request for succinct polls I offer this:
While reading the O-Live blog comments I have been privy to a somewhat innane debate regarding the abbreviated moniker 'Zers and its acceptable use. The first few times I heard this argument I chalked it up to inconsequential blather, but since then I have seen many more comments about its use and it has seemingly grown some legs...as has my interest in this issue. There are those who use this reference and those who despise it. Where are you at? I ask you:

Condone? Yikers
Sounds like a presidential debate word.
For me though, I think Trailblazers being shortened to Blazers is already enough of a “moniker.”
And just in case you were wondering, moniker comes from “munik” which was derived from an Old Irish word.
So—an answer and an etymology lesson. Where else can you get that?

4 letters is too much.
I usually shorten it to a couple tongue clicks from the bushman language.

haha
and then you spend 73 strokes of the keyboard talking about a more efficient way than using just 4 letters

oh, and I voted no
I think it looks stupid, sounds stupid when you say it out loud, and how hard is it to add two more clicks to turn ’Zers into Blazers? If you want to go short, how about just PTB?

Three more clicks, glast
And yes, I could’ve spelled your whole name, but why bother when it’s so much easier to leave off the first three letters? Besides, typing “glast” is a blast, dou you think?
But I agree with you. “Zers” does look and sounds ridiculous. What’s next? Is it time to catch some Z’s? Yawn.

Two more clicks
The —> ’ <—— counts as a click!
So, you’re only typing an extra B and an extra L.
Out loud, someone should be smacked if they say “Zers”. In text, ehhhh… if ya wanna. It don’t bug me.
I just noticed people doing it, so I assume it is the new rad thing to do. It won’t likely catch on.

So are you saying Bl'zers is okay?
That’s even more silly than “Zers.” Am I the only sane person on this planet? That’s a rhetorical question by the way.
Maybe we should all reduce our language to single letters and symbols whenever we can – the better to support our lazy American lifestyles.

I only support calling us the Blazers
And according to the Bible that is how Jesus wanted it.
Either the Portland Trail Blazers, the Trail Blazers, or the Blazers, or the Portland Blazers, or the Blazers Portland Trail, any combo above is okay.
I was just pointing out that ‘Zers is even lazier as a shortcut when it’s only 2 less letters, and I thought you were saying it was 3 less characters… and I was pointing out the aposterphe(sp?) counts.
I just wanna stop fighting.

Peace. You are one of the coolest dudes on the planet and certainly saner than I. You’re absolutely correct. In my rush to correct douglast’s supposed counting error, I overlooked the apostrophe. Argh.
To my credit I don’t think most people who use the “Zers” abbreviation add an apostrophe. I mean, why bother? However, since douglast used one, I owe him an apology. That doesn’t prove that he’s always right, though. Just saying!
I think I read that Blazer passage in the Bible. Revelations, wasn’t it?

I’m not upset in the least.
I had hoped I would be remembered for some of my past (and future?) salary cap analysis work or other thoughful points I may have made or will make in the future, but such is life. I’ll take it.

I have never seen anyone say 'zers until right now.
also, it takes me forever to find the apostrophe key, so I am leanin towards no.

I voted yes,
but that was before I actually typed “’zers” out, and realized that I couldn’t find the apostrophe key.

condone may not be the best word
I won’t use it. I might not realize what that means if I’m not already talking about the Blazers. It won’t bother me if I see/hear it.
I ain’t for it or against it.

I barely tolerate “PTB”. I mean, it’s not that hard to spell out Portland or Blazers.

Either way I don’t really care. I’ve definitely used the term, but more because I am lazy.

Too ambiguous

I use slang.
I use slang, profanity. Arguably too much at times. But this slang isn’t good. Blazers is good by me. I refer to the Trail Blazers at times as " My Blazers " and other teams as "my " ( insert team name here )

Ick. Gag. No, please God, no.
Silly thing to get snobby about, but it really irritates me for some reason when I see that. I pretend they’re talking about a minor league baseball team I’ve never heard of, or something.

PTB is a nice shortcut (less keystrokes) and fits well with PBR’s :-)

I hate PTB
I hope you can all see the irony in that comment. The 76ers go by the Sixers, which I guess you could do as 6ers if you really wanted to shorten it. The Blazers really isn’t that hard to type is it? I mean Zers is just as hard because you don’t really use a capital Z much and it takes a little time. Why am I still pondering this?
