They are thinking that
it is a good idea to play him 10 games to screw with our cap space too. I offically dislike some of the Celtics fans now.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.
The NBA seems irresponsible
I find it silly that it is necessary for an independent doctor to declare that Miles’ injury was career ending…and yet there is no intercessory type of process in place that would ensure it was safe to allow Miles to be reinstated to play. In other words, if a doctor(s) deemed him unfit to continue playing, shouldn’t the league also require independent doctors to clear him for action again? Maybe I’m ignorant of all the facts here, but there is nothing I’m aware of that would suggest the Celtics or any other team has gotten any type of “green light” from the league to allow a player with Miles’ status to come back. That seems like a gross oversight in this process. Miles may want to play, but he could be putting his health in jeopardy by doing so. If a gm was just trying to screw us over cap-wise and just play him for 10 games then cut him, are they not simply exploiting a player? I’m also surprised the player’s association isn’t more involved in this.
Can I buy you a fish sandwich?
You are correct about this
According to a few people in the know about the CBA far better than myself such as Larry Coon and a few posters on RealGM, the process for medical retirement was mostly designed to deal with a player coming back with his own team in mind. So keeping a team from circumventing the salary cap rules by saying a player can’t play anymore, and then using him again a few months later, a la the Knicks trying to creep out from under Allen Houston’s monster contract. It was not designed for the situation of a player coming back with another team after having been declared unfit to play again. Also some of the time periods when you could apply or re-apply for the salary to come off your cap are not completely clear. The Blazers (and maybe the Cavaliers, who are dealing with Eric Snow’s retirement) probably will bring this up at the next appropriate franchise meeting.

Yeah, no kidding.
I’ve been wondering all along if the next CBA will have a “Darius Miles clause.” Seems like the players association AND the owners would want to clean up of this mess.
Well,
It doesn’t matter for Miles, since he’s getting paid 1 way or another. Here’s another question, if Miles plays in 10 games and breaks his ankle in say his 11th game, will Portland still be tagged with his salary again? I mean is 10 games just a minimum for legal considerations, kind of like how elevators have a designated maximum weight that is legally not to be exceeded or something? To be cliche, the whole Darius Miles bonanza is rather fishy.
On another note, I’m actually pleasantly surprised by the relatively few number of Boston fans that would hypothetically condone Ainge bringing Miles back purely to mess with the blazers.
One jerk comment
Does not make all Celtic fans jerks but I hope they all burn in hell in a friendly, kidding sort of way.

They also had a poll there
about who should be cut – and Miles won, er lost LINK
If they do sign him the bloggers had better learn how to spell “Darius”. Dairus? Dare us to sign him?
It's time to retire Terry Porter's jersey. Please!
