NBA League Pass Available?

Anyone know when they are going to release the pricing and allow you to sign up for this?

All the ads on DirecTV and NBA.com reference last year's packages.

It seems a little late to have not released anything for this season.

I swear last year I had already ordered my subscription and watched some pre-season games on there.

As a Blazer fan in Dallas I am dying for some live Blazer game action!

I was wondering the same thing.....

I have Comca$t and as of right now it says that it is currently out of season. Hopefully it becomes available soon. It doesn’t matter much to me because I obviously get all my Blazer games but my roommate loves Phoenix and I am such an NBA junkie that I told him I would split the package with him so he could see their games.

by HeffBlazer on Oct 13, 2008 9:20 PM PDT reply actions

That's the way to do it.

I lived in MA. with a bunch of kids from other states – other countries – and the one thing we all had in common was a love for the NBA and our teams. We split the package five ways, two of the guys didn’t even live their. Luckily, I was the lone fan of a west coast team and got the dial all to myself at 10:30pm. Sometimes the games would last well past 1am…watching Z-Bo and Bassy stink it up. Now I live in a town in Oregon where I will only get to see 13 nationally televised games because no one out here will carry CSNNW and Comcast blacks out Blazer games on their competitors League Pass programming. I feel violated.

When I called...

…to order League Pass a week or so ago, the lady told me that it would not be available until October 28, opening night, and that I should call back then. Until then, any preseason games that League Pass bothers to show are free, but they’ve only — to my knowledge, and I’ve checked for every game — shown one Blazers game thus far, the first one.

I can commiserate with your desire for Blazers live action, as a Blazers fan living 1000 miles away in southeastern Montana. It seems like I’ve been waiting forever for this season to start!

When I called

Comcast in Colorado, the option to buy it isn’t available untill the first day of the season and I can’t get any preseason games. Must be part of the whole “Comcastic” thing…;-)

Just be happy you'll get to watch them!

Yes I am bitter! Dallas?! REALLY?!?! I live in Oregon. OR-E-GON! Will I be able to get league pass and enjoy live Blazer action all season long? Nooo-OO-ooo!!! Whatever…eff’ing BendBroadband!

Local company = opportunity?

I don’t live in your area, but BendBroadband appears to be encouragingly forthcoming in explaining its position on carrying CSNW (unlike most cable providers and the satellite services). Its website says it would add $2.00 (previously it had said $1.50) to the cost of its Preferred Digital package so they haven’t added it. But then it says, “However, if an overwhelming number of Preferred customers support the addition of CSN, this will of course influence our decision to carry the channel. As we have always indicated, we look to our customer’s feedback when it comes to adding channels.” Then they provide a link to send them feedback.

Has anything been done in Bend to show that “an overwhelming number of Preferred customers support the addition of CSN”? It’s pretty obvious that any Blazer fan would be ecstatic to pay $2.00 more a month for CSN. Has there been any organized efforts in the community to gauge and build customer support for adding the channel? A petition at the mall? A demonstration at the cable company office? Get some local government cable regulator (a Blazer fan!) to lobby them? A local radio or newspaper campaign? It seems the local cable company is willing to listen, what efforts have been made to convince them? There’s nothing anyone can do to influence DirecTV or DISH, but if BendBroadband is a relatively small and local company (which it appears they are from the website info) I’d be looking for ways to get the community to speak out.

Here's the latest email I received from Bend Broadband

WE APPRECIATE THAT YOU ARE A BLAZER FAN AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE GAMES. WE WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE COMCAST SPORTS NETWORK TO YOU AND OTHER BLAZER FANS AT AN AFFORDABLE COST. HOWEVER, THE DEAL FROM COMCAST REQUIRES THAT CHANNEL BE IN A PACKAGE THAT IS RECEIVED BY 40% OF OUR SUBSCRIBERS. IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, WHILE NOT RAISING THE COST OF ALL VIDEO SUBSCRIBERS, WE WOULD NEED TO ADD THE CHANNEL TO OUR PREFERRED PACKAGE. THE COST OF PREFERRED WILL NEED TO RISE BY $2 PER SUBSCRIBER PER MONTH TO PAY FOR CSN. TO DATE WE HAVE HEARD FROM ONLY 1% OF OUR SUBSCRIBERS THAT THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY FOR CSN. AT THE SAME TIME WE HAVE MANY SUBSCRIBERS WHO ARE NOT INTERESTED AND DON’’T WANT TO SEE THEIR CABLE RATE INCREASED BY $2 FOR ONE CHANNEL. HERE’’S AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT ONE SUBSCRIBER STATED:

“WE ARE AGAINST HAVING TO PAY AN EXTRA 2 A MONTH SO DUCK FANS CAN RECEIVE COMCAST SPORTS. SINCE COMCAST SPORTS ONLY PRESENTS U OF O SPORTS, IT IS UNFAIR TO PREFERRED PACKAGE SUBSCRIBERS TO HAVE TO SUPPORT THIS SERVICE. CABLE FEES ARE HIGH ENOUGH WITHOUT HAVING TO ADD CABLE CHANNELS THAT ARE SO SPECIALIZED TO A DISTINCT SET OF CUSTOMERS.”

DID YOU KNOW THAT COMCAST ALSO MADE THEIR DEAL WITH THE BLAZERS EXCLUSIVE, SO WE CAN NO LONGER OFFER THE 20+ SYNDICATED GAMES THAT WE HAVE IN THE PAST. THOSE GAMES ARE ONLY AVAILABLE IF WE LAUNCH CSN AND WOULD ALSO BE PART OF THE PREFERRED PACKAGE. SO AS YOU CAN IMAGINE THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT DECISION AND as much as we might want to, WE CANNOT PLEASE EVERYONE. WE ARE CURRENTLY CONDUCTING A SURVEY TO BETTER INFORM OUR DECISION. IN THE MEANTIME WE APPRECIATE YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND PATIENCE

are you sure they are on league pass

I remember reading somewhere that because of the holdout with comcast that even with nba league pass the blazers games will be blocked out and unavaible for viewing.

If anyone has any info on that it would be greatly to appreciated since I can decide whether or not to spend the 200 bucks on it.

If you have access to InDemand

as part of a digital cable package then you can also get league pass. I already ordered it. It starts on Oct. 28th and is 4 payments of $45 for the season.

But I looked earlier and my cable company, Time Warner, starts selling NBA League Pass on the 15th.

I just saw an updated commercial for it yesterday.

The early bird price is $169, just like last year. If you wait it’s $189. The first week of the season is a free preview.

As an aside, I’m constantly grateful that the NBA includes NBA League Pass Broadband in the $169 package. The NHL requires that you pay extra to get the same feature and MLB requires you to buy them separately. And NFL Sunday Ticket is pretty much impossible to legally get. Way to go Commissioner Stern!

Question.

I live in LA, I have DirecTV and must have league pass. Now, we had a big hassle when we set our DirecTV up in the first place and I was real frustrated with the customer service.

Now they are telling me that I must have a land line plugged into my DVR in order to get league pass? Has anyone else run into this problem? My roommate and I both have cell phones and have absolutely no reason to pay extra for a landline. If I have to swallow the price of a land line in addition to the league pass cost I’m gonna be PISSED.

I just got direct

And as my Blazerhead friend is constantly pointing out I could get all the games for what it would cost to go to one game at the Rose Garden[100$’s in gas].I already have a land line and just about got myself talked into it.

by southern oregon on Oct 14, 2008 11:17 AM PDT reply actions

Hey, it's me again.

I had League Pass for a few years back when I was w/ Directv. I loved it. Early bird price back then was $149. Watched almost every Blazer game, either on home broadcast or visitor’s. I’m in Douglas County.
I will get it again this year if the season starts and there is still no agreement between Dish and Comcast. Early discount will be gone, so I’ll probably pay the $190, but I figure it is worth waiting to possibly get Comcast for free ( I have a top tier package already). We have an HD DVR, so I almost always record the games. Lets my wife watch what she wants, and I get to watch the game later, but without commercials, etc.
I am assuming that if Comcast is carried by the Sat. providers, the HD broadcasts will be broadcast on Sat in HD. Not always the case w/ League Pass, I think.

by crakarjack on Oct 14, 2008 11:46 AM PDT up reply actions

So you DO need a land line to get it?

This is such bull. You have to sign into stupidly long contracts to get any kind of service. Chances are I won’t be living in my current apartment for more than another 6 months. So I get screwed out of the products I want to pay for? That sucks, man…

I talked to the local wizard

And he sez that he had to have a land line to get league pass on dish at the old house,When he got the vonnage in the new place with direct they told him[takes grain of salt] that the only thing he cant do vs landline is call up and order HBO or pay per view but that he can order it on line trough his account. He is on it and we will know more soon.

by southern oregon on Oct 15, 2008 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I take it he had DirectTv

because that is not at all the case with Dish Network

haha solid..

All I have is the last two years of experience with the dish. I have no telephone line (im all cellphone) in my house and have enjoyed my nightly blazer games on league pass without it. They might TELL you to do it, but on dish its not required

You can't, if . . .

you are in Eastern, Coastal or Southern Oregon. You
can’t even get it if you are 20 minutes outside of Portland
in Southern Washington. Believe me, I’m a screwed EXPERT !
In the 06-07 season, I had DTV & League Pass and watched
every game when the deal was with FoxSports NW, but now
COINCAST owns the exclusive rights to the cable games.
I met a guy that works for KFBI (My 48) who carries the KGW
games here in Southern Oregon and he says the blackout
usually has to do with geographic spots covered by Sattelite
spots. That’s the reason our esteemed DAVE can get the
games in Boise, ID.
COINCAST CABLE – PHILADELPHIA, PA – SUCKS !!!

Walkoff, I'm not sure what you are saying?

Are you saying that you can’t get the games on League Pass off of satellite in Southern Oregon? Last year my friend got all the games, so this year should be the same. Or are you saying that you can’t get them w/o a land line. I wouldn’t know about such things, as I live in an area w/o cell service.
This obviously sucks the most for you folks close to Portland that can’t get Coincast, and are blacked out by League Pass.
On another post about this issue, some people were implying that this is the fault of the other providers, as Coincast’s asking price is reasonable. If that were the case, wouldn’t you think that Paul Allen’s cable company would have reached an agreement by now!?!

I called Dish a few days ago.....

….and the nice fellow on the line seemed mystified by the fact that they’re advertising the early bird rate on tv, but according to his computer, “they’re still working out a deal with the NBA” and I can’t order it yet at the early bird rate, on Dish Network. He says I need to keep checking the website (Dish website) to see when it’s up and running (especially since the NBA LP offical site states that it’s available now, and gives the DISH # to call to order it).

I know I want it, and I’m trying to order early enough to get the cheaper rate….. but can’t get it yet. Strange days in the ongoing saga of Comcast/NBA/Dish money and power struggle, continuing to screw over Blazer fans everywhere….
