Nice!
I wish him luck. He seemed like a nice enough guy.

Did Reef have a deal with the Kings
that if he retired they would add him to the coaching staff? Because unless I’m mistaken he had a couple more years on that deal, worth probably $12 million. The Kings would have done this because it gets his contract off the books and clears a roster spot they want cleared, but I cannot believe any player would walk away from $12 million when he could just not play for two years and collect it — especially if he knew his knees were through. Maybe the Kings and he agreed they would pay him the rest of his contract if he joined the coaching staff. Reef might be making Phil Jackson-type money right now as a rookie assistant coach!

Nope, Shareef Abdur-Rahim will still get paid his $12.8 million in remaining salary over two years.
Insurance, however, will cover 80% of it; plus, his contract should come off of the books and prevent the Kings from going over the luxury tax.

Good for him!
I always had a soft spot for S.A.R. He tried to make the best of an extremely bad situation while he was here.
