Denver @ Phoenix

With our upcoming road trip it seems rather unlikely that this would last too long, but we have a non-Blazer game to look forward to tonight.  First place in the NW Division?  We shall see.

This seems an appropriate place to link: jksnake99's timely diary Scoreboard Watching For Dummies:

92-70 phx
in the middle of the third, looks like Phx should pull this out, barring a big comeback by Denver. PHX hung 46 on them in the 1st qtr. Granted they scored 34 themselves, but I don't think Denver is going to win anything with defense like that.

Yeah, I just flipped it on a little while ago...
...and then flipped it right back off.  Looks like a massacre in progress!

Did you see that the Suns
scored 46 in the first quarter?  46.  Wow!

well it is official...
The Blazers are in 1st place! Which means if the playoffs started today they would be the 4th seed I believe, which would equal home court for the 1st round, unless I am mistaken.  Can anyone confirm that?

the fourth seed yes...
but not necesarily home court. If the fifth seed had a better record than portland, they would have homecourt.  If the playoffs started right now, we would play the hornets and the hornets would have homecourt advantage.

That's right
I kind of forgot about that... haven't had to think about that much lately!

4th seed but no home court
no... because New Orleans has a better record than us. they have a 2 game lead therefore they'd get homecourt advantage even though their the 5th seed

Why does NBA.com
always rank Denver above us even though we have ALL the possible tie breakers other then +/- differential. What gives????

Total guess:
The program they wrote looks alphabetically through each team.  I assume they'll fix it, hopefully soon.  Golden State is having their way with the Spurs so far tonight.

For now, looks better to look at espn.com's rankings:

I thought division winners get top 3 seeds
Wouldn't we be 3rd seed? There's only 3 divisions...

by Blazerholic on Jan 7, 2008 10:34 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

top 3 teams plus the next best team...
get the top 4 spots, so winning the division only guarantees you a top 4 seed.  This change was made to avoid the situation where the Mavs and Spurs met in the 2nd round despite being the top 2 teams.

---

Stupid Spurs are not helping us out at all.  Lost to both Denver and GS this week.

Plus the rub
If you hold the 4th spot but the 5th seed has a better record, you still play the series on the road (which is what our current situation would be). I don't know why they don't just consider it the 5th spot. I like the 4th spot adjustment the league did, allowing the 2nd or 3rd best team to move above one division winner if warranted. I don't agree with the 4th spot being the road team even if they have a worse record than the 5th seed. Doesn't make winning the division as important.
