Biggest Blazer pet peeves

So...we are nearing the all star break now.  Its definitely been a rollercoaster ride between the dismal start, the emergence of Supertrout/start of the streak, national media coverage for a solid month, wondering if we were legit, and where we are now.  No one ever expected we would be this good, but honestly...what is your biggest pet peeve about this team?

just couldn't pick on an individual
so chose the bad team rebounding.

I don't mind Holton, but I'd be glad if Luftman (?) never returned.  Akamian was much calmer and better informed.  Let's focus those studio guys to the Blazersedge norm, not the "others".

luftman
i didnt think luftman was as bad as most of you on BE...but akamian did sort of calmed holton down to a point where i could tolerate him.

by Philthyanimal on Jan 28, 2008 7:47 PM PST up reply actions

I always felt
that Holton was responding to Luftman who is the one who throws papers around and keeps saying, "tell them what they won, Michael" - over and over ad nauseum.  Once is funny, twice is enough.

I just want to put Luftman in a box and secure the lid.

ahh
oh ok...when holton first started doing it early in the season i could have sworn that luftman was kinda caught by suprise at how cheesy the line was and was just playing off of the cheese factor.

I didn't vote
Far be it from me to get on a high horse, it would get me out of the gutter.  It is a young team that is winning.  No pet peeves here, just warm feelings of aloha for this team.

Team Rebounding
Looks like I'm not the only one bothered by 2nd and 3rd chance points for the opponent.

Nobody blocks their man out
Take notice next game, then tell me if I'm lying.  Outlaw is the worst culprit.  LMA is pretty bad too.

by leeroyjenkins on Jan 29, 2008 2:31 PM PST up reply actions

One not mentioned
LaMarcus settling for the 18-20 footers too much.  I'd like to see him dribble in and make it a 15 footer, or try and take it to the rack.  Or, how about actually rolling to the hoop on a pick and roll.

JJ's baseline beatdown is my #1 peeve though.

I'm hip, I'm slick, and all the women want my phone number!

by silkybrown on Jan 28, 2008 9:59 PM PST reply actions

hmm
i dont think hes "settling" for em...it seems like thats just where hes comfortable.

by Philthyanimal on Jan 28, 2008 10:53 PM PST up reply actions

LMA is 6'11" and can make free throws
Outside shooting might be what he's comfortable with, but it's not what's going to make him an All-Star in the NBA.

agreed on Jarrett's TOs
I voted for team rebounding, but the individual thing that bugs me the most are Jarrett's poor passes. Sergio makes more than his fair share too, but now Jack seems to have taken it upon himself to one-up Sergio on the wild drive-past-the-backboard-and-chuck-a-wild-pass routine. Or getting incomplete grades on the fastbreak. I know their young but Jarrett is in his third year and he played PG in the ACC for three years too.
put a body on 'em

Really?
I kind of define a pet peeve as something you expect to see, often and unchangeable. This team has some flaws, but all things I think can and shall be overcome someday.

This team has so exceeded my expectations that I find it difficult to focus on a negative. I react to ups and downs but overall this season? No problem from me.

Oh wait, I kind of thought the 2 game, less than a week in the D-League stint for Taurean Green was sort of a waste of time.

  Does that count?

Pet peeve is...
a minor annoyance that can instill extreme frustration in an individual. Typically each person has several pet peeves that aggravate her or him more than the average person. Another person may not react as negatively or at all to the same circumstance.

by Philthyanimal on Jan 28, 2008 10:52 PM PST up reply actions

how about
not being able to watch the game? That's my biggest pet peave. Could be all the negative reactions on this site when the team comes up short one night. Since this is my favorite outlet for Blazers news that is a big one. Of course I have the luxury of not seeing the boneheadedness and I won't be able to watch anything for a while, so I can be more patient. If I was there maybe I would get caught up in the whirlwind that is an NBA season.

by einman77 on Jan 29, 2008 3:15 AM PST up reply actions

damn
i cant believe i missed that.

by Philthyanimal on Jan 29, 2008 10:08 AM PST up reply actions

Technically...
not being able to watch the games? Would that be a pet peeve about the Team, or about Comcast and Satelite providers?

I did not count it because I see it more as a problem with Comcast and Satelite Providers not directly a problem with the team.

Once The Blazers inked with Comcast it was out of The Blazers hands.

Tie
  1.  Travis Outlaw fadeaway jumper with 20 seconds left on the shot clock.

  2.  LMA with a wide open lane to the rim and shooting a 20 footer.

  3.  Four Blazers in the key when a shot goes up, opposing player grabs the rebound.

Not rebounding free throws
this irks me the most after Jack.  I almost swear at those too.

I'm a quiet guy
I support my team and cheer and yell, but i dont' boo or curse them...

except... when @#$@#%$# Jack steps @#$%(&@#$^(& out of *(&%%#%@! bounds!!!

Rebounding is a second issue.  Seriously... SOMEONE can't grab a rebound?

I don't curse that though because I dont' watch enough for it to bother and we win games I watch.  (except for one, but we made a huge come back when I started watching...)

Jack however... i hear it on the radio all the time and i'm all "are you freaking kidding me???"

RECAP
its crazy how far ahead the team rebounding and jack  stepping out of bounds is above the rest.  it seems like at games more people bitch about sergios TOs or airballs more than Jack stepping out.  I'm glad trout corrected it after 3-5 games.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
