Brilliant Comcast Plan

I thought for sure by this time of the season Comcast would have made a deal with the satellite companies ... but nope, the greedy little &%#@$#*'s haven't done it yet. I'm weary of listening to the games on Audio League Pass (although I'm greateful it's there), and missing out on watching astounding performances such as the one B-Roy and the Blazers put on last night.

But don't dispair 'cuz I have a plan that's so great that everyone will be excited to jump on board.  Here it is:

To get Comcast's attention, I'm asking everyone with current Comcast service to cancel it today.  It will be just a small sacrifice for the good of the cause and it will save you a few schekels to boot.

Thank you in advance for helping we poor fans who do not have Comcast available, are blocked out of League Pass games and are too remote or too cash strapped to attend the games in person.  And look at the national attention a story such as this will garner with Comcast being revealed as the slimy villains they are.

Come on guys and girls; you will be remembered in heaven for this. Would I do it for you?  Silly question!

give up comcast?
And then with Comcast gone, how do I get to see the PTB play?  You think Comcast is greedy?  Go to the Rose Garden and buy a $5 hot-dog, or $8 beer.

$Season tickets < $Cable subscription
But if you're hooked on hotdogs and beer that math might not work for you.

hmmmmm
I personally got a job courtside at the RG this way I get paid to see the games.  Novel idea don't ya think?  As for the away games, the ones that are on Comcast I enjoy with 50 other Blazer fans at Claudia's Sports Pub on Hawthorne and 30th.  Its a great way to take in the games with everyone hollering at the big screen.  If you're a cheapo, than don't buy anything!  I too wish the satellites had the channel, but I think in the long run, assuming it happens eventually, it is for the better.  This way the Blazers essentially have their own channel that will improve over the years to come, rather than being Seattle's little bitc@ on FSN.

Seriously, I have no sympathy for you
You guys need to stop whining because you bet on the wrong horse.  It sucks that you have a satellite, but why should I give up my Blazers because you were wrong?  CSN does a great job, and I love the HD for home games.

That's not really fair
A lot of people literally don't have the option of getting Comcast cable due to location. I know a lot of people who are in that boat.

Now if you choose to keep dish even though you could have Comcast, then you don't have much room to complain.

There are many reasons to prefer satellite

...suggestions that people should switch carriers because of the obnoxious behavior of whoever, miss the point.

Some folks like in the countryside, where no cable service exists.

Some folks need international programming--Comcast sucks in this regard (especially if the language in question is not Spanish).

Some folks dislike Comcast's horrible customer service.

...and some just feel that they should be able to get the programming they want without being forced into a particular carrier.

What should happen (it won't, as the big comms companies have bought far too many members of Congress to make it happen), is that a separation of content and distribution should be legally enforced.  Sat and cable companies, should not be in the business of producing content-- the heart of the issue is that the cable company has some valuable content, and they're not sharing.  It's possible that DirecTV is being cheap--but Comcast would just as soon not sell the programming to its competitors at all.

Grumble grip gripe...

You didn't read my post robrun ..
it mentioned that Comcast IS NOT available to me (and many others).

I don't mean to laugh....
...and I actually think Comcast is more to blame than the satelite providers. BUT you've come into a Blazer fan site and suggested people stop watching The Blazers....you weren't expecting this to be a "popular" idea were you?

defending comast
honestly...if CSN wasnt around, what options would you have to catch the games?  the very few games that are broadcasted on KGW and TNT?  or FSN broadcasting whenever its convenient for them?

i guess the only people i feel bad for are the people who bought the nba league pass only to get locked out.

by Philthyanimal on Jan 28, 2008 11:07 AM PST reply actions

Well I'll repeat
that I watched a lot of FSN produced Blazer games via DirecTV last year.  If I still had those same number of games available, I wouldn't be complaining now at all.

by TwoDeep on Jan 28, 2008 4:14 PM PST up reply actions

Something different for me
I live out in the sticks within the league pass blackout.  No options for me to see the blazers at home on CSN.  Here is what I've done:

I canceled my dish network service.
I listen to wheels & read the gameday thread live
I watch the NBA.com highlights
I come to blazersedge
I drive up to see 5 home games every year.
If there is a game I must see on Comcast I've got open invitations to watch at a couple of buddies houses in town.

The unexpected benefit of canceling dish is that I have an extra 20 hours a week that I used to waste watching television. It's sad that it took a comcastration to make better use of my time, but it's a good thing for me now.

As soon as high speed internet reaches my corner of the woods I'll figure out a way to order league pass online.

Does anyone here watch league pass on their PC that can give a reference?

by tweener on Jan 28, 2008 11:29 AM PST reply actions

I've watched League Pass online
Sometimes when I can't watch a game on league pass live and can't record it with my DVR, I've watched it in my spare time on League Pass Online.  I've also watched games live online, when travelling.  For me (and I don't have a heavy duty laptop) it works perfectly fine.  The picture isn't as nice as a TV obviously, but it's better than bad and you can full screen it.

Also, since I watch games on TV usually, I let my family in Portland watch games on my league pass online account.

In my experience, League Pass online is a great perk of a subscription but if it was ALL you had you might get annoyed with the small screen or the picture quality of full screen mode.  But, it runs smooth and you can easily tell what's going on.  I like it.

Thank you Mortimer
I think I'll get that next year... I do miss seeing every game.

I'm cancelling my Comcast internet
even though CSNN is a separate entity.......the whole Comcast Empire can go to hell. I'm sick of missing games because of their greediness. And yes, it is on Comcast. They've done the same thing to every market they've conquered. Sacramento, DC/Philly. etc.......

True Blazer fans
True Blazer fans would sell their houses, properties, and livelyhoods to move where Comcast is offered.

Hahahaha.

On a serious note though... I feel bad for people who are missing out on watching the games, because this has been a real special season to see.  It makes me appreciate the good fortune I have of living where I get Comcast.

Just think.  I get to watch practically every Blazer game, and I get to go to Heaven when I die.  It's just wonderful.

I'm hip, I'm slick, and all the women want my phone number!

Watch games online
and tell comcast to go !@#$ itself.

That's what I do.

I have given up on somethign happening this season
I had Comcast before I moved to an area where it was not available. I pay out the nose for high speed satellite internet. I miss my comcast cable internet badly.

Hopefully something will get worked out before the start of next season. Perhaps we can start a petition somewhere for both The Dish And DirectTV stating that we would in fact pay for an additional channel, much like I do with NBA TV. It might be the carrot they need to make a decision.

Sorry dude...
Can't do it. Besides losing my Blazer games I'd have to miss out on my cartoons, which my family wouldn't like. I get grumpy when I miss my cartoons.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
