Charley takes it like a man.

His mea culpa on Roy:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7675808

Key section:

I'm not seeking to please or displease any particular segment of NBA fans. All I can do is call 'em the way I see 'em.

As far as the Roy flop-flap is concerned, I can only repeat the mantra chanted at one time or other by players at every level from MJ to the no-game hackers who have next-after-next in the schoolyards.

My bad.

good find!
like to see Rosen eating his words

Well, kinda like a man
First, CR was forced into that admission by his readers, who gradually pinned him into submission with their emails.  Second, Rosen never cops to what seems apparent: that his negative evaluation of Roy last season was based not on careful evaluation and analysis but on watching one Blazer game. How else could he have concluded at that time that Roy doesn't take or make shots in crunch time?

Of course, we Blazer fans know that Roy was the go-to guy down the stretch of games beginning with Day 1 of his rookie season--when the Blazers' former go-to guy, Zach Randolph, gave Roy the ball for the final shot.

You've got to be kidding.
The title of the column was "I Was Wrong About Roy"

It sounds like you could only "forgive" him if he titled it: "I Was Wrong About Roy Because I Failed To Study The Blazers More Thoroughly, But Even So, I Never Would Have Admitted This If I Hadn't Been Forced By So Many Of Your Keenly Insightful E-Mails"

But he does expend more words
extolling his own virtues as a columnist and how he's right more often than not, then he does on how (and more interetingly, why) he was wrong about Roy.

Basically, it sounds like he was forced by the comments of his readers into making the admission.  A gruging admission is not exactly a surefire indicator of class.

Today's media
That's what you're gonna get from the media these days. They're very defensive about their own credibility because it's the only thing they have going for them in the age of free blogs. Some day soon, Charley Rosen is going to be just another in a vast sea of "dudes on the internet with opinions". Until that day comes, he has to defend his own rightness no matter what. His livelihood is at stake.

Exactly
The headline was deceptive.  In fact, this was not a mea culpa.  It was one of those non-apology-apologies that are more annoying than no apology at all.  At least that's what my wife always tells me.  :-)

Interestingly
that is indeed the only way I would have forgiven him.  That guy's way worse than Swirsky and a hack to boot.

I'll take it.
I was one of those that sent Charlie a questioning e-mail regarding his comments, and I honestly expected to be dismissed as a "fan" and ignored. I think it shows strong moral character that he would publicly admit an error and make recompense for it. That's good enough for me.

Since we know he makes snap judgements with little historical evidence, I'll take what he says in the future with a grain of salt. He is what he is, a channel surfing sports writer that assumes he knows the entire story after five minutes of actual viewing.

At least he's consistent. You wouldn't get this from Canzano.

Now let's interview Swirsky
