My East Coast Predictions
I was asked to repost this in it's own diary so here it is.
My Easter Conference Playoff predictions, I think fatties West Conference predictions are pretty decent (minus Houston taking home the prize) but here are what I think the east will look like come playoff time.
The Heat will limp into the playoffs if at all. Shaq's days of dominating at will are over, and Dwayne Wade is having trouble staying healthy. And what else do they have???? Nothing.
New York will have trouble, they will argue, Eddy Curry will stop playing hard again because he won't get the ball as much, and Stephon Marbury will reveal on the Martha Stewart show that he believes he's the second coming of Christ and Zeke should restructure his contract accordingly. No playoffs again.
Cleveland, they'll be one or two. Lebron is just too good. Best player in the league. Could reappear in the finals.
Chicago will take the 2nd or 3rd spot I think. Although that won't translate into playoff wins for them. They need a scoring big to win playoff games. 2nd round oust.
Boston will be in the top half of the playoff tree this year, but they'll be so tired due to their 6 or 7 man rotation that they won't get out of the first round.
Toronto will be around the 5 spot, they're good but not as good as the teams ahead of them. Chris Bosh will be a monster, and look out for T.J. Ford, because the cats got skills.
Washington will make the playoffs but Gilbert will try to stand alone as always and fail them in the playoffs. Caron Butler will have another great year quietly.
Detroit is done dominating their foes. They will win a lot of games and make the playoffs but only because of experience. They need a good defensive center to make their defense suffocating and I don't think they'll find that this year.
New Jersey (Brooklyn?) whatever they'll be called next year will be the final playoff team, just ahead of Miami which will get ousted in the first round. Kidd is still better than any other point gaurd in the league except Nash (they have different skills, not sure which one is really better at the moment) and Carter can help, but they haven't got anyone else (including Jefferson) that will get them out of the first round.

It's funny
Miami: most feared
New Jersey: dark horse. As always.
Boston and Cleveland: proven big time talent, but enough of a cast to push them through to the finals? Either are potentially the most diasappointing teams. Garnett makes Boston the wild card.
Chicago/Detroit: good teams moving in seemingly opposite direction, that are both a player a way from contending.
Toronto: I'm sensing letdown, for somereason.
Washington: most fun to watch comeplayoff time (in the East, anyway).
New York/Milwaukee/Atlanta/Charlotte/Orlando/Indiana/Philadelphia: health and fortunate chemistry could allow them to make some noise
Probably the most frustrating thing about the East is seeming lack of diverse teams/sameness of problems. Houston, Dallas, SA, Phoenix, Denver, Lakers, all stand out next to each other in terms of style and personnel; the East seems to be a bunch of teams either lacking a supporting cast a an all star away from contention. Just my off the cuff thoughts; gotta jump off now...
That's a great point about the
question about Kidd.
Just wondering...
Better than
Karl Malone's hour long conversation with himself before every free throw was just confounding.
And Doug Christie had to extend his arm with the "I Love You" sign to his wife every time he did, well, anything. Made me want to just slap him and tell him to act like a man.
Christie's probably used to getting slapped ...
Sensing DC's aura
Coincidence or ?
Don't think he's workin' the "I love You" sign. No REFs, No crowd, No foulin', No Lovin', No vids.
not like
and his son t.j. is now 9 years old.
TJ Ford?
I think the secret is out on the Pistons. After a brutal slaying at the hands of King James, I think they will be the most likely team to face a huge let down. It'll only be a matter of time before Rasheed implodes and gets banished to the Knicks. I still think they're in.
Speaking of, look at all that talent on the Knicks roster. Stephon Marbury, Jamal Crawford, Eddy Curry, Q-Rich, David Lee, Renaldo Balkman and Zach Randolph!?!? If I was building a fantasy team and all these guys played on seperate teams, I would love to have this roster. Unfortuntately, as Blazer fans know, fantasy teams don't make the best NBA teams. If only they had a coach that could make it all work, one who represented dignity and honor... If only... OUT.
Fantasy teams, however, seem to have more success with the right type of Star Player. I think Kevin Garnett is the ideal player in the NBA. He's big, he plays almost every position, he passes, scores, rebounds, defends... Garnett's will can get this team into the playoffs, if he gets a little help from Allen and Pierce. Allen knows this, and hopefully, Pierce learns quickly. In.
Chicago, New Jersey, and Cleveland are my favorites though. With Toronto being the dark-horse. Don't sleep on the Raptors...
