Are we really mostly female?

http://www.quantcast.com/blazersedge.com

I don't know if folks have looked at this already but it's kind of interesting.  What do you think about our profile?  It looks wonky to me.

Where did this info come from?  How does this work?  Educate me please.

Have I reached 300?  By the way, I thought 300 was a crappy movie.  Abs and more abs and more abs and more abs and even more abs.

Demographics
Yeah, female Hispanics over 65.  Who'd a thunk it!

And here I was thinking that
I was the only Hispanic female over 65 who frequented the site!

No, That's me too, dude
It's always to Telemundo for the post game Blazer breakdown.

I use the term "my wife" metaphorically.

Ohh, on the where does this info come from
question, I have no idea, but did try to find out, what I do know is that they have this posted next to a big exclamation point:

"We have sparse data about blazersedge.com, so these are rough estimates. You can correct them" (link)

I half wonder if they just make this info up to try to solicit customers.  It looks like the company is in business to try to help you define your demographics and create more effective advertisement, if that is the case, and misinformation gets people in the door, inquiring on sites that are commercial and expected to be financially productive in significant ways.  Just a thought... if this info was actually gathered from someplace, I'd be very curious how they determined the demographics.

Ideas
They probably scan the site for keywords, then make a guess.  i.e. Financial sites have high-income visitors; Oprah.com is mostly female, etc.  They may also look at the ads being displayed and try to work backwards to get demographics.

Seems likely,
Dave probably messes all their guesswork up by keeping us from killing each other in all the posts.  Get that cussing and flaming up and we'll move the meter down the age scale and over to the testosterone laden male setup.  You know, because it is so important.

You Throw Like A Girl
This demographic is a taunt.  That's my opinion.  I don't think they are remotely trying for an educated guess.  They are trying to display how far off the actual a guess might be in order to motivate Dave to use their services to define his user's demographics to place his site in a better marketing position for advertizers.  While I am an obvious chica, they missed my income, ethnicity, and age.  And, it is obvious from the bulk of the postings that the machismos vastly outnumber us. So, let's remind ourselves and Dave, they haven't seen us throw!

I've seen the data
Though I too have questions you have to interpret it correctly to understand it.  It doesn't say we're mostly female or Hispanic or anything really.  The way I read it is that a score of 100 is the average for blogs or sports blogs or whatever their control group is.  The amount above or below 100 doesn't show you how many of each type of person is reading, it shows you how much more or less you attract that kind of person compared to the control group.  Apparently according to their data Blazersedge is more popular with women, minorities, and older folks than most other blogs.  Those groups still make up just a fraction of our readership though, which I'm relatively sure is mostly caucasian and male.

I wondered about that "control group"
So, you think it might be closer to actual than we thought?  How do they know?

it's done with cookies
though I don't know where the cookies get the demographics.  (And it says they tend to overcount people who delete their cookies regularly.)

This is the explanation of the demographics: "Index
A measure of how a given metric compares to an average, such as the average U.S. internet user. If a site indexes 100 in college graduates, that means a given visitor to it is as likely to be a college graduate as any U.S. internet user chosen at random. An index of 200 means the visitor is twice as likely to be a college graduate, 50 means half as likely, and so on. The higher the index, the better the site is at attracting that type of audience.

Note that a high index does not necessarily mean a high percentage in an absolute sense. For example, approximately 5% of internet users in the U.S. are Asian. A site with an Asian index of 400 would have an audience four times richer than average in Asians, but Asians would still only constitute one visitor in five."

Check their glossary here.

I am truly an addict : Addicts are the hardcore segment of a site's audience, who have 30 or more visits to that site in a month.  I make up for the days I miss with multiple visits per day.
