Blazers Schedule Released

http://www.nba.com/blazers/schedule/results_2007.html

  • 11 nationally televised games.
  • Opening night match at San Antonio (ring ceremony).
  • Home opener on November 7 against the Hornets.
  • Christmas game at home vs. Seattle.
  • Both Oden/Shaq matches are nationally televised.
  • Star-divide

    My Prediction
    First 16 games (through November)

    Tue 30 @ San Antonio, L
    Fri 2 @ New Orleans, L
    Sat 3 @ Houston, L

    Wed 7 New Orleans, W
    Fri 9 Memphis, W
    Sat 10 Dallas, L
    Tue 13 Detroit, W

    Wed 14 @ Denver, L
    Fri 16 @ Philadelphia, W
    Sat 17 @ Washington, L
    Mon 19 @ Charlotte, W

    Wed 21 New Jersey, L
    Fri 23 Sacramento, W
    Mon 26 Orlando, W
    Wed 28 Indiana, W

    Fri 30 @ Dallas, L

    Total: 8-8

In the first 8 games, I think we'll really get a sense of where this team is at. Games against Detroit, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas and Denver... After that, though, we have an opportunity on that Eastern conference road trip to pile up a few wins. Then the home stand to close out the month consists entirely of what should be winnable games.

Considering how difficult December could be, I think we should feel good about hanging around .500 at that point.

I think we get a sense...
of where this team's heading by the game one matchup.  National TV, ring ceremony... spotlight, baby!

What a great time to be a fan.

    Eleven???
    Eleven!!!  We're big time now!
    Play nicely together, ok?

Duncan vs Oden. Oden's 1st Game. National TV.
Can't wait to see how that one turns out.

by HarryManback on Aug 2, 2007 9:00 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I wonder how it will play out...
'Cause I think it's more like Aldridge V. Duncan, no?

by ken on Aug 2, 2007 9:15 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

    Actually...
It will probably be more like Duncan versus Oden and Aldridge, as I'm sure Nate will want to give him a few different looks.  This could be the first episode in the long-running series of other teams' bigs looking at Portland's front line and thinking, "this could be a long night".  Or...it could be the first episode in the hopefully short series of Greg Oden picking up two fouls in the first ten minutes.

by HarryManback on Aug 2, 2007 9:21 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

    Yep....
what I really meant to say was, "This is gonna be fun."

by ken on Aug 2, 2007 9:23 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

    I think
GO needs to go up against the best from the very beginning, which probably means he has to start.  I think he's a smart kid and will learn more from playing against Duncan, et. al. than from watching from the bench.  (At least for those two minutes...)

I also think it would be a tribute (or at least a kindness) to Spurs fans (and the tv audience too - like those of us at home) to start Oden.

Please, Whoever-Is-In-Charge, make Greg Oden healthy and keep him that way for years and years.

    Play nicely together, ok?

by jorga on Aug 2, 2007 9:50 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

    I meant that Oden...
will more than likely start at forward beside Aldridge at PF.  Duncan is the PF so that would make it more of an Aldridge/Duncan matchup.

Harry is correct, though, in that it will be a changing thing with different players covering Duncan.

by ken on Aug 2, 2007 10:06 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kind of cool contrast the first few games . . .
. . . opening with a team with a killer PF in Duncan for LMA to match up against
while Oden draws a relatively low-interest matchup (Fabricio?) whose main threat is that HE IS A SPUR.

Then, the next two nights, Oden gets Tyson Chandler, who I believe is the best FUTURE center other than Oden,
then gets an established top-notch center opponent in Yao--both for teams a little deficient at power foward,
so it becomes ALDRIDGE'S turn to get open after the Duncan beginning.

Which just goes to show how lethal this LMA/Oden combo is going to be:
You go through the league, team after team, and you keep hitting teams with
a killer center or power foward, but not BOTH--between LMA and Oden,
one will always get a stud to match up against, while the other gets a third-tier opponent.

Nobody's got a tandem for ours to test against as a unit, really.

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

WOW, that's low on divisional matchups.
So last year, the season starts off with Blazers-Sonics, but with Oden & Durant, no such deal?

    Weird.
Although getting the defending champs' season opener is a high honor indeed--
eyeballs EVERYWHERE for that baby, even without the Oden interest.

    Oh, and here's my predicks:
    Tue 30 @ San Antonio, L
    Fri 2 @ New Orleans, L
    Sat 3 @ Houston, W

    Wed 7 New Orleans, W
    Fri 9 Memphis, W
    Sat 10 Dallas, L
    Tue 13 Detroit, L

    Wed 14 @ Denver, W
    Fri 16 @ Philadelphia, W
    Sat 17 @ Washington, L
    Mon 19 @ Charlotte, W

    Wed 21 New Jersey, W
    Fri 23 Sacramento, W
    Mon 26 Orlando, W
    Wed 28 Indiana, W

    Fri 30 @ Dallas, L

    That'd be 10-6.
Feeling oddly leery of that Philly game, though.

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

    Oh, wow--THERE'S Seattle:
    Christmas day on ESPN.

We got the old Shaqobe Heat/L[xxx]rs slot.

Roy's gonna sell some jerseys outside of the Portland area this year.
Between him and Oden, we may see some Blazers in the top-10 list for jersey sales.
How long has it been since we've had ANYONE on that list?!?

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

Isn't the Shaq/Kobe slot an ABC game?
We're still just ESPN.  I'll take it, but I don't think it's the same slot.

Would've been nice to have a game in the Fall.
I'll come down to Portland to watch a game or two, but I was really hoping they would have a game in Seattle earlier in the season. That way I could watch them play Durant at the beginning of the season and compare it to later in the season. Instead, they don't play each other until Christmas, and I won't be able to see them in Seattle until February.

    don't be suprised
If the Blazers pull off a win against the Spurs.  They always start slow, and are usually even sub .500 for their first 10 games or so.  They could get wrapped up in getting their rings, while the Blazers will be young and hungry.

I am not predicting a win, but it would not suprise me if they did.

we had 0 national tv games last year, right?
and now we have 11? that seems insane to me. seems like the youngins on the Blazers are gonna be feeling a whole helluva lot more pressure this season.

    the Greg Oden effect
Its a shame he'll never be on TV.  I mean what a nightmare for the NBA. People will forget he even exists.

    Yeah, I know...
It's great he's on national TV in SA, or else it would be the dreaded pacific time zone, and no one would watch him...

    By the way
Only 1 team last year (Golden State) and 2 teams the year before (Clippers, Sacramento) were not in the top 8 in the West and still made the playoffs.

It's imperative that Portland get off to a good start in the first month, and by that I mean, they need to be at or a game away from the .500 mark.
