Lewis will play for Magic

According to ESPN Story Here Rashard Lewis has agreed verbally to a max contract deal with the Orlando Magic that he will sign July 11th when Free Agents can first be signed.

Thank God. Finally the ridiculous speculation that Lewis will be a Blazer will end. Not that he's not a good player but this is not the right time to sign a max-salary free agent. Sorry Isiah (not really) but you're not getting him either.

I think Lewis is overrated

Great shooter but limited in other areas. The Magic overspent for him although I can't really blame them.

Seattle is going to be a horrible team this season. Durant is going to pad his stats but Oden will be on a much more successful team.

Lewis would have made this team a 5 seed

Barring any more acquisitions my realistic prediction would be 8th or 9th in the West with a best case of 7th. But I'm glad he's not coming here with a max contract, I'm a fan of immediate gratification, but this is an incredible young core that needs to play and get better and Lewis would have taken pressure off but limited the touches Roy, Oden & Co. would need.

Terrible Move

I would have really liked Rashard as a Blazers, but he is NOT a max player!

Interesting they are basically giving up Darko, who is still young.

Where can Darko go now? Who has cap room and the need for a center? Seattle?

He could end up in LA or Chicago.

Interesting comments

on Supersonicsoul (read the post titled "Lewis gone"). The blogger, Peter one of 3 on that site) feels all free agents are overpaid (interesting theory), but it was this that got me, "Lewis seldom received recognition for his scoring abilities, or his speed, or his passing, or anything else. Rather, he received criticism for his deficiencies..." Don't we do that with most of the players? Unless we're madly in love with them (see Roy) it's what they can't do that is always talked about. I'm seeing that with Ime now. Abruptly he went from being the glue guy that we need to keep (and BE's Most Inspirational Player), to being just short of a waste of roster space in some fans' opinions.

I was going to go off on a philosophical tangent about it maybe being a societal thing, but it's a holiday so I'll spare you.
