Quick reports: Outlaw close to signing (w/poll)

It's a very small mention, but in his new blog post, http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2007/07/some_final_thoughts_as_i_fade.html, Quick gives mention to a conversation with Trout. Outlaw says he is close to signing, but does not tell with whom... but his general tone sounds like he is looking to return to Portland.

I sure as heck hope he re-signs with us... I have grown quite fond of the Outlaw. I just hope that he doesn't tip the salary scale for us.

And hey... here's a good time to post my very first poll... woohoo...

Don't kill me if the salaries aren't exactly right... Did the best I could to get contracts from the current free agency period.

this is a tough one
Outlaw has the potential of exploding in production in a year or two.  If you fail to think ahead on a longer and more cost-effective deal you could end up paying out the rear to keep him in a few years when he is still a very young 25-years-old or so.  At the same time, he also has that potential to completely flub... and then you've signed a long contract that will be difficult to dump.

Personally, I'm hoping for a bit of a longer one.  I'm hoping for at least 4 years.

I've never liked Outlaw
he just seems like the classic athlete who has no basketball instincts. Almost the complete opposite of Brandon Roy.

I mean I wouldn't rule anything out, he may become a complete player yet but somehow I doubt it. If he's signed I'm fine with that. But I do have a nagging feeling we're wasting time and resources with Outlaw and Webster: two byproducts of the NashPatterson era.

I'd love
Amir $$.. Walton may be a bit much.. I'd personally prefer about 4 years- 16 mill, with a team option for year 5. That's 4 mill a year. I think that's what he should get.
Welcome Greg Oden

what really matters...
The amount of money over the next two years doesn't matter since the Blazers are over the cap. What does matter is cap space in two years. Hopefully the Blazers have a team option on the third year and that in that year it's not to much. It would be to the Blazers advantage to front-load all the money in the first two years then the third year pay him the league minimum (for cap purposes), but I'm sure the league has a plug for that loop-hole.

not possible
The CBA prevents a contract like that, otherwise you wouldn't see contracts like reaf's around.  Most contracts start at a given number, then increase each year at a specific % based on the players years of service to the team and years in the league.

Not all contracts are that way, as you can see by Joels or Miles contracts, they seem to pay an equal salary each year.

well...
I don't know much about the CBA, but the Bulls have 2 players with decreasing salaries with Hinrich and Wallace:

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
