SI.com reporting proposed PDX-NYC trade
Sports Illustrated is reporting on a proposed trade that would send Zach Randolph to New York for Channing Frye and Steve Francis.
According to SI:
Less than four hours before the draft, I heard that the Knicks were looking to acquire Randolph from Portland. It was uncertain what New York would be sending to the Blazers; my source believed it might be Channing Frye and Steve Francis, which would force Portland to include another player in the trade. What I can tell you is that Randolph was initially reticent about going to New York. Stay tuned.

I don't know about this trade. Anything I did with NYC would have to include David Lee, and get rid of another of our bad contracts (Darius Miles? or Raef Lafrentz) for us to do it. New York has a TON of bad contracts, and not a whole lot of talent.

WHOA!!!
Steve Francis (huge contract but it expires in 2 years)
Channing Frye (great midrange game and another athletic post player)
FOR
Zach Randolph and who? The salaries don't match up... One player that DOES make the money match is D-MILES!!! Although I don't think we can trade him while he's injured...
Zach Randolph, Martell Webster and Dan Dickau...
One of the big problems is that if Miles isn't included then we're essentially spinning our wheels when it comes to Cap considerations. Frye and Francis have two years remaining, but Dickau has one year left, Webster has 2 years, Fred Jones only has 1 or 2 years...
Zach Randolph and Raef LaFrentz
FOR
Channing Frye, Steve Francis, David Lee and Nate Robinson?

HUH?
Darius Miles

If it was Miles...
Now...if the Blazers pick up Frye, can we ignite the Oden-Durant debate again?
Also, would that guarantee Jack's exit from Portland tonight?
Ugh.

At the same time...
His contract expires in two years, and we've freed up ALL THAT MONEY for an actual contributor!
Or deal with Randolph's contract for 4 years...
Channing Frye is an interesting asset too. Aldridge, Frye and Oden would be a pretty sweet frontline...

Ugh.
And am I the only one that thinks that Webster is gonna have a breakout next year with Oden on the post? Just look at Ohio State's shooters last year. I'm not ready to send him off just yet.
Add David Lee, though, and things might be different.

All I have to say is "NO"
More info on the proposed trade
According to ESPN:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2919929
- The trade, if it goes down, wouldn't happen today (draft day); as it does not involve draft picks.
- Another version of the trade is Zach to NY for Malik Rose and Frye. Rose is useless but not cancerous; and he also has two years left on his deal. This trade cannot occur until July, as Rose has a player option (which he is certain to exercise--he's getting paid $8 million or so/year to suck). I like this better than getting Stevie Franchise, even if it means having to keep Darius.
- Is this the best we can get for Z-bo?
Other versions of the trade involve Webster
If that occurs, then we need something back more than just Frye and cap savings.

It seems like he's worth more.

Not the best deal...
Or at least the right to swap picks with the Knick
for the next two years. :)
Unprotected, of course.
If IT would do that for Curry, why not for Zach? Z-bo is every bit as good of an offensive player, he can actually rebound the ball, and doesn't need a heart surgeon on the speed-dial.

Are you sure?
This is Isiah, after all.
Besides. If he had the number 9 pick this year instead of the Bulls, he'd use it on Nick Fazekas or Rashard Jones-Jennings, or someone like that.
